This is the chapter before we get to see Haise and Rize actually go on their date, that'll be for the next chapter. And then after that, we'll go back to Kaneki finishing up at Anteiku before finally meeting Naruto, who recognized him earlier when he was at Ramen Ichiraku's. Exciting stuff going on.
The reviews are working again, for now lol. The author's notes will be at the bottom. Please enjoy!
Sitting together on the edge of Roma's comfortable mattress, Haise had his arm wrapped over her shoulder and held her close to him as she rested her cheek against his chest. Given his history with TSC, he was given special privileges when it came to visiting Roma before it came time for her to get dressed for breakfast.
Haise kissed the top of her auburn head of hair, which had grown rapidly to the point where it covered her entire forehead, and its ends went down to her shoulders. Listening to the song that Haise had loaded up on his handheld Pipboy Readius, 'Sai Wai - The Lunar Samurai', the half ghoul smiled contently and watched from the corners of his eyes as Roma took a gentle sip from the styrofoam cup of Anteiku's freshly brewed coffee— the same cup that he had gotten from Touka earlier.
Together, the two listened to the sounds of seagulls gawking and song-birds chirping outside of her large reinforced window, as they stared out to admire the dark fog that laid over the horizon of the prison cell's ocean view. Having managed to talk Matsuri Suzuki— formerly known as Matsuri Washuu— into dropping TSC's hit on Roma had been challenge in of itself, and had it not been for Arima stepping in and threatening to leave, Roma would have had been sent to Cochlea Maximum Security Prison for the rest of her life.
Thankfully, after Haise had told Arima about the romantic feelings he had acquired for Roma since the night they confessed their trauma to one another, the White Reaper was able to get her off with four-to-ten years at the 'Pacific Harbor Psychiatric Ward': a minimum security luxury rehabilitation center that was located in the wealthiest city along the coast of the 11th Ward. Although it wasn't what either Haise or Roma wanted, it was a far better deal than the alternative.
And according to Roma, she herself was actually looking forward to receiving the psychiatric treatment that she figured she was long overdue for. And besides the mass amount of available resources at her disposal— resources and services that are reserved usually for only the wealthiest of families within Tokyo— Roma was comforted by the fact that she was going to be alone for the first nine months of her stay. Despite having gone through menopause and had long since been past the days of getting a period, Haise and his unnaturally fertile sperm, and whatever else was in his body, had managed to do what the doctors were calling a miracle.
The small bump in her once petite abdomen was what motivated her to want to get better, not just for herself and Haise, but so she could give her child the loving life neither of them could get. And while Roma took another sip of the artisan coffee, Haise looked over the top of her full head of auburn hair and toward her nightstand.
Right beside the desktop portrait containing a picture of them posing in front of the camera at a farmer's market, Haise could tell by the different position of her clown-themed bookmark that she had read another chunk of the Bible— a nightly practice that Roma had picked back up after the first month of being there. With his eyes fixated on the holy scripture, Haise watched from his field of vision as Roma set her coffee down on the nightstand, before picking her Bible up.
Like he always did when he made time to visit her, Haise listened and engaged with Roma as she told him of the passages she read the night before, and what they meant to her. And while Roma herself wasn't completely religious herself, and oftentimes would point out criticisms she had with the way the Bible was written, she did take comfort from reading it. Roma even made a half-playful joke about how if maybe she started to worship God again, then maybe He would bless her child, unlike how he didn't bless either of them.
After Roma had shared what she wanted about her nightly readings to Haise, she set the Bible down on the nightstand and gave him a lustful look in her chocolate eyes while reaching up with her hands to grab a handful of fabric from his white trench coat. With enough time to spare and the privacy they were given within the minimum security ward, Haise smiled back bashfully and smiled as he leaned in and locked lips with Roma while laying her down on the bed.
Feeling her hands unbuttoning and unbuckling his outfit before throwing his articles of clothing to the carpeted floor, Haise disrobed Roma from the comfortable gown she had on. And as they closed their eyes while passionately kissing on one another, Haise couldn't help but to think how unique Roma was to him, in the sense that their sex life was more personal and intimate than how he ever experienced with another woman. They didn't have sex, they would make love.
Their session lasted for thirty minutes, and not wanting to make a mess of her before she needed to get ready to begin her scheduled day, Haise made sure to finish inside of her womanhood and ass before carrying her to her private bathroom to shower with her. Underneath the cascading hot water, Haise stood up and lowered his arms around Roma as she nuzzled herself against his bare body.
Mornings with Roma had become his favorite part of the day, and only made him look forward to the day she would be discharged from her mandated sentence at the cozy ward. When he was with her and away from the madness of life in and within the walls of Tokyo, Haise felt safe and protected from the looming problems in his personal life that were waiting for him. The truth was that Haise wished he could be serving a sentence of his own within the same psychiatric ward, and share a room with the woman who called herself his fiancé.
When it came time for Haise to get her and himself dressed, he could hear Roma crying softly to herself, despite knowing that he would be back soon to spend even more time with her. Haise felt sad too when he had to leave Roma, but it was her who would always end up shedding tears, despite jokingly always telling him that she wouldn't.
The drive from the southwest coast of the 11th Ward and back to the other Wards was always a bit of a hassle for Haise, but to see Roma who he felt actual love for, it was worth it to him. However, Haise was especially dreading the commute he needed to take in order to get to the 6th Ward, where he would need to be meeting Rize at her father's bar: Orca.
By the time he found parking and made his way through the morning crowds of pediatricians going to and from their own destinations, it was barely past noon. Having been up since five in the morning and gone without coffee, Haise was finding himself nursing a yawn as he entered through the front doors of the bar. Although Haise had always been popular amongst peacekeepers and the ghouls who he had helped in the past, he was beginning to be recognized for his relation with Kaneki, and thus he was greeted by ghouls who got up from their tables in the middle of their lunch, just so they could talk to him and convince him to take a selfie with them.
By the time he got through the crowds of people who wanted to meet the infamous White Reaper's protege and 'The Devil of GOAT' (A name that he wasn't very happy to be known as), Haise had been given two colorful and exotic looking cocktails, a handful of resumes from those who wanted to be his student, six different phone numbers from women who wanted to go on a date with him, and a marriage proposal from some girl who claimed to have sat at the table next to his one time while at a McDonald's.
Exhausted and feeling like he needed to take a nap, Haise eventually was able to find himself a spot at the bar counter that gave him somewhat a decent amount of privacy, and that was only because the bartender, Gil, had to keep telling off any fans to leave him alone. Standing in front of him on the other side of the counter, Gil, despite his usually grumpy demeanor, was genuinely happy to see the half-ghoul responsible for delivering his boss' daughter back safely.
"Well now, if ain't the man, the myth, the legend himself… Detective Sasaki, do you still go by that these days? Or are you trying to rebrand your services?" Gil asked sarcastically with a gruff smirk on his face, as he watched Haise take a long sip from the hurricane cocktail in his right hand.
"Lately, that's been out of my control, hasn't it?" Haise replied back with a mildly irked chuckle, as he took another long drink through his cocktail's straw, before setting it aside beside his other gifted beverage. "The good ol' days of being known as the 'ghoul detective' are coming to an end for me, it would seem… To be honest, I haven't really even been having time for those cases anyways— If I had to rely on Juuzou to oversee the place."
"Oh come now, Sasaki, it was only a matter of time before it would come to an end for ya," Gil argued, and felt the need to clarify himself when Haise raised a brow at him. "It's just that we here at Orca have known you for a while now, and it came to a surprise that someone like you, and even that little bugger Juuzou, wanted to be the 'good guys' for a chance. I mean, good for you for expanding and getting rich or whatever you have, but I mean… Come on now, Sasaki, that ain't the kind of life for someone like you…"
"… You're the adventurous type, a man of action, not words! Why, I still remember hearing all sorts of tales going through these parts about your exploits in the wasteland…! You used to go out, find a group of raiders, a dragon nest, and slaughter them all like lamb! Murdering the murderers, looting their treasures and claiming the spoils of war! That's the kind of bastard we here at Orca knew you and loved you as— The Black Reaper!" Gil said enthusiastically with his arms raised with excitement, before lowering them down as he narrowed his eyes at Haise's hair.
"… And just between you and I Sasaki, you really oughta go back to dyeing the white parts of your hair again. I really was digging that 'dark-crimson blood' color you had going on beneath the black parts of your hair— really made you look a hell of a lot more intimidating than you look now," Gil said with a disgruntled voice, as he sneered at Haise's natural colors with disappointment. "I suppose the whole 'Oreo-Panda' look you got going on really makes you more approachable and friendly, but uh… Hey, you do you, Sasaki…"
Smirking sassily while letting out a throaty chuckle, Haise went over to grab his second cocktail after he had finished his first one while Gil had been rambling on about him. "Glad to hear your perspective on my life, Gil— really makes me feel better about myself… But uh, y-yeah, I mean… Yeahhhhh, I mean I kinda do really enjoy being back out there again…!" Haise admitted with a bashful and wide smile forming across his lips, as the mere thought of doing what he did best really did make him feel good about himself— even if he often tried to deny it to others.
"Bloody hell, I knew you were jonesing for the glory days…! Hell, I bet you got yourself strapped right now, don't ya mate?" Gil asked with a quiet voice, and took a quick look around the bar counter before leaning in to whisper. "Pssssttt… Oi, whatcha got on ya today, Sasaki…? What's the flavor of the day…?" Gil asked excitedly, which made Haise snicker quietly to himself.
Although Haise had known better than to wave his arsenal around when he was inside the walls of Tokyo, he actually really enjoyed showing off his collection, and took the chance to do it when asked. Reaching into his trench coat, Haise upholstered a sleek-black semi-automatic pistol that was equipped with a module mounted on the bottom of the barrel. "It's a classic favorite of mine, Gil: H Mk23 SOCOM, with an AN/PEQ-6 Laser Aiming Module. It uses .45 ACP custom cartilages with dragon-steel tips, and I have a silencer for it in my pocket too, along with a few magazines for uh, you know… In case the need arises to use it…" Haise said with a cocky smirk on his face, as he showed it off to the awestruck bartender, before sliding it back into his trench coat before anyone else could see it.
"B-Bro…! Y-You gotta let me use it sometime…! That looked freaking sick…!" Gil whispered with an ecstatic tone in his voice, and started to hop and and down like a kid on Christmas morning. "Yooo… What if I joined GOAT, bro…? W-Would I be able to go on missions with you…?"
"With me? No, no you probably wouldn't," Haise replied back flatly, and took a long drink from the iced strawberry-flavored cocktail as Gil recoiled with shock from just having his sudden dream die within a flash.
"H-Hey?! What the hell bro, why not?" Gil asked with his eyes furrowed at the calm and collected half-ghoul, who had already reached the bottom of the glass by the time the bartender finished asking his question.
"Ah… Where to begin?" Haise mused aloud as he slid the empty glass across the tablet to where the other one was sitting, before putting his elbow down on the table to rest his chin on his palm. "For starters, I'm not a member of GOAT, more like an associate than anything else. If you were to be recruited into GOAT, you'd get through basic training and be sent off into the wasteland to live with a squadron at Vault 079, before they have you go out into the wasteland to search for settlements and resources— what have you…"
"… So like, the same answer you gave to everyone else?" Gil asked with his grumpy demeanor returning, as he picked up the empty glasses from Haise's tabletop space to put them in with the rest of the dirty dishes he needed to wash.
"Same answer I gave everyone else," Haise confirmed, as he gave the small menu in front of him a quick look. "Hey Gil, mind whipping me up a mojito while you're back there? I could use a little extra for the road," Haise said jokingly, and smiled confidently at the surprised bartender.
"Ordering drinks now, are we? And here I thought you were only downing those two cocktails because they were gifts," Gil said with a widened gaze, as he reached under the bar counter to collect the ingredients he would need to make it. "I use ghoul-approved ingredients here, Sasaki— higher alcohol content. Keep that in mind, alright? All those drinks are gonna blindside your reaper-ass if ya ain't careful, mate…"
"I'll keep that in mind…" Haise chuckled dryly, as he reached into his fat wallet to take a few bills out before setting them down on the table. "Keep the change Gil— consider that an insensitive to stay here at Orca, where it's safe," Haise said, as he took the tall-glass of vodka and ice from the ghoul, before using the straw inside to mix in the mint— allowing himself to be exposed to the young woman walking up behind him.
"—And consider this an insensitive way to stay here where you'll be safe from yourself," Rize said with a disapproving tone in her feminine and naturally seductive way of speaking, as she reached her hand underneath Haise's trench coat. "You'll get these back when you're sober," Rize said with a challenging smirk across her lipstick-matte lips, as she took her seat beside Haise while waving his keys at him.
Chuckling nervously as he watched his boss' daughter dangle the keys in front of Haise before immediately pulling them away the moment he tried grabbing them, Gil swallowed back the nervous lump in his throat. "I've got uh… I've got to get back to serving the other customers…"
"That would be wise for you to do, Gil," Rize said while glaring at him from the corner of her purple eyes. "… Leave us," Rize commanded in an authoritative voice, and frowned as she watched her father's subordinate scramble with his things.
"Y-Yes, of course ma'am…!" Gil squeaked out while grabbing his box of mixing utensils, but before giving a quick nod to Haise as he made his way to the other side of the oval bar counter— leaving Haise and Rize sitting alone.
"It's good to see that those therapy sessions of yours have been working miraculously to make you into a better person, Kamishiro," Haise remarked sarcastically with a half-cocked grin, as he leaned down to take the tip of the straw between his lips.
"'Better' doesn't always mean 'nicer', Sasaki. I'm still the same woman that I've always been," Rize replied back with a mischievous look in her eyes, as she moved the black plastic straw away from Haise's lips, before leaning down herself and putting her lips around the tip. Like a pro, Rize gulped down the entire half-pint of alcohol within a few seconds, and smacked her lips as she slowly rose back up to straighten her back while still sitting down on the bar stool.
"… Classy," Haise muttered sarcastically, as he let out an annoyed sigh while Rize continued to flash her confident and malicious-looking grin at him.
"Always," Rize remarked, before blowing her alcohol-minty scented breath into Haise's face. "Let's dispense the pleasantries and save what I want to say to you for our date. I'm not going to pretend that you're sitting here with me because you're looking to share a drink— Let's down the brass tacks, alright?" Rize said a commanding voice, as she reached into her black-leather purse to put out her cell phone, while Haise cocked an eyebrow at her.
"'For our date'?" Haise repeated back with skepticism in his voice, while being handed the ghoul's cell phone.
"Yes, you're taking me on a very long date after you send all those notes I typed out for you into your personal cell phone— that way I have your new number, and you have what you need to find Furuta," Rize explained with a proud look on her beautiful face, as she watched as Haise's eyes scanned through the paragraphs she had typed out the night before. "Spoiler alert, Sasaki: Furuta is out Weast- East- somewhere right now— probably either hiding from Arima after his failed plan to kidnap both Kaneki and you, or he might have actually already been crucified already. Those 'Ataksuki' fellows I heard him talking to didn't seem very pleased with him, once they learned that I didn't have their King's implant anymore…"
"I see, and uh… It says here to you, uh… Ripped his genitals off?" Haise questioned with an uncomfortable look in his eyes, as he got to the part of Rize's notes where she wrote the reason as to why she was put into the capsule in the first place.
"Furuta tried taking what was yours. So yes, I did what any responsible woman in my position would have done: I tore his little dick and balls off of his body, before trying to shove them up his ass," Rize explained with a cathartic look in her eyes, before thinking back on her time spent within the confined space of what essentially was a coffin. "Let's just say, that uh… That I don't do small spaces anymore."
"That's completely understandable…" Haise said with a humorless chuckle, as he still vividly remembered the smell that assaulted his nose when he pried open Rize's sarcophagus. "Well… As far as that date you're wanting goes… What did you have in mind?"
Rize shrugged at Haise's question, and merely replied back, "Whatever you want to do, nothing's set in stone. So long as you take me to a nice place for lunch, I'm open to anything you want to do, Sasaki," Rize said with a widening smirk, as she reached up with one hand to boop the tip of Haise's nose as he put her phone down.
"I, uh… Yeah, alright, we can do that— I just have to be somewhere at five," Haise said with an accepting look in his eyes, as he slid Rize her phone back across the small space on the counter top between him and her. "Thank you for the information, Rize. I'm going to have my agency use what you wrote to find his location."
"Oh…? And then when you find him for me, what are you going to do?" Rize asked curiously with a sadistic look in her eyes, as she leaned closer to Haise to put her hand on his lap— eager to hear what he was going to do to the man who almost killed her.
Although he knew that Rize was seeking to get enjoyment from his answer, Haise fed into her instigating curiosity. Truth was that Haise's hatred for Furuta had grown tenfold after everything became clear to him. Furuta had turned his little brother into a one-eyed ghoul, and was going to sell him to a militaristic empire across the sea. Not only that, but Furuta was going to use Rize to lure Haise into Vault 079, and have him weakened and exhausted from fighting Darkside, so he could capture him and ship him off to the Akatsuki as well.
Had everything gone according to Furuta's plan, then Juuzou and Arima would have been lured and gotten trapped in Vault 079, where he would have used the Pipboy he had stolen to remotely activate the Vault's failsafe option. With every intention of selling him and his little brother off to be doom to a life like the one he had in Sunlit Gardens, and wanting to kill his two closest loved ones, the cherry on top was that Furuta wanted to use Rize to make children for himself, without her permission. Knowing all of this, Haise's personal mission that took precedence over anything else was to find Furuta, and execute him.
"… I'm going to slaughter anyone foolish enough to side themselves with him, and when I do find him, I'm going to rip his guts out with my bare hands," Haise said in a low and intimidating voice that he usually didn't use, while Rize began fawning over her protector while listening to every word he spoke to her. "I'm going to gut him, break his fucking jaw off so he can't smile that shit-eating grin of his at me ever again, and then… And when I'm done with him, there won't be anything left to bury..."
"Mmmm… T-That's hot… I really love it when you talk like that…!" Rize cooed with hearts welling up in her sparkling gaze, while involuntarily digging her fingertips into Haise's thighs as she bit down on her lower lip. "Of course, my therapist wouldn't approve of my affinity for your violent side, but then… Oh well, I suppose there's only so much we can do for ourselves, right Sasaki?" Rize mused jokingly, as she reluctantly pulled herself away from Haise so she could check her phone.
"Unfortunately, you're right… Still doesn't mean we can try to improve ourselves for the better though, right?" Haise mused methodically to Rize, as she added his number to his contacts— putting his contact name as 'Daddy Sasaki'. "… Who knows? Maybe once he's dead, we can only rest a bit easier— won't have to be so on-guard all the time… By the way, when did you go on that date?" Haise asked, after pushing aside all the rage he was saving for Furuta.
"Right about… Now," Rize announced, after updating her status on all her social media to being in a relationship with Haise. Kicking her legs around the stool, Rize hopped onto her feet before grabbing Haise by the hand. "Come on, let's get going Sasaki— I've been waiting for this for a while," Rize said aloud in a low voice, as she pulled Haise away from the bar counter and through the crowds of people who were subtly taking photos of the two being together.
And that's it for this chapter, lol. Got to see Haise spending time with Roma, and get to see him at Orca. Oh, we got to see an overview of Furuta's plan, and got to see a glimpse into why Kaneki's kakuhou was so valuable.
Anyways, let's go over the stuff.
Kaneki will unfortunately get family-zoned by Eto, and only when he builds up the confidence to tell her how he feels does she begin to see him in a different light. After that, it will be Eto who will be seeking a relationship with Kaneki, who at first thought she wasn't interested when she didn't immediately return his feelings after his confession.
Hinami might come in for a bit to bridge the gap between Eto's initial rejection, to when Eto comes around. I mostly see Kaneki being with Hinami temporarily only for the relationship aspect of it, but that won't be until a few more time skips from now probably. If I do that, because honestly Kaneki's ideal woman isn't petite. So far in this AU, he's only been interested in the busty women, not so much the smaller girls, like how Haise usually likes them.
I might use that later: Have Eto accidentally catch a glimpse of Kaneki showering, which will be the catalyst to her secretly becoming physically attracted to him. And probably going to have Mutsuki already pregnant and announcing it to the rest of the agency, which is the primary reason why Haise is making up excuses as to not having to spend time at the agency: he's avoiding Mutsuki, who's already moving his things upstairs— making up his own reasons to stay overnight at the agency.
Eto's sort of the main ship for Kaneki right now, so I think once he sees that Hikari's lessons aren't really there to help him more so than they are to help herself, Kaneki cuts it off. Touka, on the other hand, will start trying to move into Haise's agency too, once she realizes how fun he is and how good her life could be with him. So she'll have a rivalry with Mutsuki and Rize, all of which don't like each other, but refuse to leave Haise for the sense that all of them each see him as being the key to their happiness.
Really, all of Haise's relationships are pretty toxic with the exception of Roma, who's protected from all of that inside the psyche ward. And in order to get Kaneki to drink, it would need to be Haise pushing him to. And when Kaneki and Eto get drunk, I can see them 'accidentally' kissing each other, and trying to play it off awkwardly afterward. Sorry Hinami, you might not actually get out of the family zone this time. Kaneki if he's fixated on Eto will probably not want her, and Hinami might be the first girl Kaneki legitimately turns down.
But yeah, Eto's only thing would be that she's self conscious and doesn't have as much confidence in herself as she leads others to believe. She's older than Kaneki, doesn't have a job, and bums off her dad while writing stories that don't make much money. On top of that, she's very introverted and hasn't really been out since she used to be in Aogiri Tree.
Kuzen and Eto didn't notice the smell of Kaneki accidentally bussin because of the ramen, and even if they did, they wouldn't say anything because they would assume he's sensitive down there, just because he's rested to Haise who they know is 'quirky' down there too.
As for Touka, she's too prideful to ask Kaneki for a job, so she's definitely going to look up to Haise as being her sugar daddy. She doesn't have to work, she gets taken care of, gets a large luxury apartment to her name, gets money, and gets respect from his employees and everyone else who knows Haise. Touka wants the life Haise can provide for her, and him as well, so like Rize and Mutsuki, she sees that as only being possible if she ends up with his kid. And since Haise has an affinity for drinking, it won't be hard to do.
It's been established in like, chapter one or two? I don't remember, but Haise has a really, really hard time saying no to women who need him— those who he sees as helpless. It's because of the way he saw women being treated at Sunlit Gardens, and because of Rize as well when they were younger.
Also, Haise's fascination for firearms isn't just me pulling it out of my ass. In the game, Tokyo Ghoul :re Call to Exist, Haise is the only version of Kaneki that primarily uses either his quinque or a straight up pistol. In fact, Haise's best weapon in that game is his pistol, which can do amazing damage with headshots. Haise also uses explosives like frag grenades, incendiary grenades, and RC-cell suppressant grenades too. So yeah, Haise's use of weapons along with his quinques and kagune is technically canon, hermmm.
Also, I love the idea of there always being a two inch difference. And also Touka freaking out again when she sees Yusa for the first time, who will be with his group of friends who are a part of his group: Phantom Thieves (Persona 5 minus Morgana being a metaverse being, just a cat). And yeah, I had to retcon the noodle house thing in order to progress the story a little better for it to work in my favor lol. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura will probably be in chapter twenty lol.
And yeah, I should try to change the tags at AO3, but technically I'll have to just base Elizabeth off her Bioshock counterpart, while still making her powerful with alternative abilities that aren't breaking time and space. Okay, that's it for now. Gotta retcon the noodle house lol.
Side note, might just write the Kaneki x Hikari thing separately at this point, because right now I gotta focus on Eto and the Yasuhisa twins.
I'll eventually write a separate fanfic in regards to a request I got, about making it Kaneki x Rize fluff, about him helping her recover from the events of Tokyo Ghoul :re chapter 116. Eventually, but not now for now, but be on the lookout for that when it comes out. Never knew how popular Rize was until now lol. Like, I like the way I write her, and I do kinda root for her and Haise being together, but there's Roma, Touka, and Mutsuki, and they all hate each other. Idk why I wrote Haise's life to be so messy, I think it's because I think it's fun to write lol.
Okay, thank you for reading, and have a damn good da-
Hold on, I just got a new review lmao.
That's correct, Kurona and Nashiro see themselves fit to only be concubines because of the way they grew up in the wasteland. They aren't from Tokyo, which holds morals and lifestyles that we're more accustomed to. They aren't mentally all there, they grew up in a place where women are expected to be either used for one purpose or another, and where men fight and kill. Very unforgiving, especially when the threat of being killed by a dragon or an orphan is just as likely to happen as getting murdered or worse by a band of raiders. It'll be reveled later that Kurona and Nishiro were born into slavery, and that they don't actually know much outside of that, except for how money works.
So I agree, eventually Kaneki will have to take the initiative to talk to the Yasuhisa twins and uncover their deep-seeded trauma and work around that to either allow them to find their own happiness outside of him, or to allow themselves to be seen as worth loving. Which is part of Kaneki's development, where he needs to learn about good communication. Thank you for the advice, I'll be sure to use it for sure. Kaneki technically is the only one who gets a harem, not really Haise.
Haise is a lot of things in this story, a good decision maker isn't one of them. Haise was sent out to go on suicidal missions, he's awful at self-preservation when it's outside of fighting. Toxic women are all he really knows, notice how he doesn't really get into relationships with women who are sane or have their lives together? I personally find it fun when it comes to having Haise fucking his own life up constantly, everytime something kinda goes good for him.
Wanted to be a simple detective who helps people? Starts going back to justifying his bloodlust by going out of his way to hunt Furuta and anyone else in his way.
Wanted to have a happy relationship? Gets that with Roma, but ends up getting stuck having to deal with Mutsuki— a very toxic person who purposely sabotaged his condoms. Haise's harem isn't really a harem, more so him constantly getting screwed over and manipulated by multiple women.
Touka wants to use Haise to give herself a lifestyle she otherwise wouldn't have, Rize wants to make Haise love her back, Mutsuki wants to force Haise into a monogamous relationship. Roma technically is the best choice for Haise, but she's locked up for at least four years, possibly ten. At the end of the day, Haise screws over his own life constantly, and it circles back to what Roma said, about him always seeing the consequences of others, but never for himself. It's the real reason why Haise loves going out on missions: He doesn't have to deal with his messy life waiting for him when he gets back. Like, I'll write more, but I want Haise to be someone who gives great advice from the heart, but he can't follow his own advice.
Side note: definitely going to use that idea where Haise becomes too trusting of Touka, who slips drugs into his coffee. I also want to have Haise going to Arima for advice, who we find out also sucks at life decisions, and is one of the reasons as to why Haise also sucks at making good healthy decisions. Advice like, "Don't tell Roma— leave her completely in the dark about this," and "Ask Mutsuki to keep it a secret— I'm sure he won't use that as blackmail," "Just give Rize what she wants and she'll leave you alone after that, probably," "Just keep giving Touka money and a place to stay— I'm sure that she won't bother you," and of course, "Just live somewhere else and avoid them."
We've seen in this chapter that Haise's already starting to drink, just wait until it gets worse for him lol. If there's someone to blame for Haise's tendency to make horrible decisions, it's Arima for having scrambled his brains over-and-over again as a child. Haise's brain doesn't work too well, hence why he isn't good at science or math in this. Now that I think about it, that actually might be the real reason Haise can't understand love-- he might be mentallyincapable of processing it.
So yes, here's the meat and potatoes for what we're working with right now:
Kaneki's Harem (Quality over Quantity for now): Yasuhisa Twins and Eto (Because we've all seen that one comic. HEUEHEHHEHE).
Haise's "Harem": Roma (Only somewhat healthy relationship he has), Mutsuki, Rize, and Touka.
Oh yeah, introducing Naruto at chapter twenty one, not twenty. I forgot which chapter this was. Like I've said before, none of this is in stone, it's just my rambling. Also, you know I had to throw in that SpongeBobreference in this chapter.
Okay, now we're good! Have a damn good day lol.
