Bloomer was in his father's lab on his second pack of cigarettes, thinking about her.
The nerve of coming to him after abandoning him for nearly three years, demanding that he help her!
Her showing up right before his father's banquet messed up his head.
And Trunks...
The first thing he did when they returned was searched for her in every room of the building, and the disappointment when he realized she was gone again.
The things that woman has done to hurt him, all of them, and he could still idolize her.
She didn't deserve his affection; she didn't deserve anything from them but hatred.
She didn't even have the decency to say goodbye, not that she did the last time.
A knock on the window made him jump and nearly drop his cigarette.
He turned to find Goku outside waving at him; he sighed and opened the window.
Of course, Goku was here; he always popped up when she was near.
Sometimes, Bloomer would if Goku used his relationship with him to get closer to Vegan.
He couldn't fault if it were true; Vegan was the most stunning woman he'd ever seen.
Memories of her smiling at him warmly after the last time they made love and the feelings they gave rise to made him reach for his scotch.
'I don't know where she is, Goku-'
'Calm down, calm down.' He said, climbing into the window. 'I'm not here for that, not entirely.'
The scotch did little to wash away the resentment he felt.
'She's at your place, isn't she?'
'Yes.'
Bloomer threw the bottle into the wall, and Goku winced.
'Of course, she's with you,' he said venomously, 'she always runs to you to protect her.'
'I'm sorry.'
'God, no. Goku, it's not you.' He turned the man, the closest thing to a brother he'd ever have. 'It's just-'
She wasn't a part of his life anymore, but this woman would forever have his heart in a vice grip. Just when he thought he was free of her, a song, the mentioning of her name, their son's face, or a full moon would reduce him to hysteric tears.
How could she not see how much they needed her in their lives again?
Why does she keep abandoning them?
'Well, what's wrong with her?'
'There was a meteor shower; one hit her ship crashed-'
'Crashed-' Bloomer turned to him, looking terrified. 'She did look kinda- is she-?'
'She is ok.'
'That's fine, but I hope she didn't come back to Earth expecting Trunks I and to welcome her with open arms-'
'Regrettably, Vegan wasn't thinking about the two of you when she returned.'
'Why did she come back?'
'I'm going to tell you something; if you promise not to react like you.'
'What are you talking about?'
'Why she came back. I didn't know until now-'
'What?'
'She was pregnant.'
'What?!' Bloomer screamed. 'What-'then it dawned on him. 'That's why-?'
'The little girl, Bulla, was sick.'
A child conceived a week before she left, nearly three years ago.
'Oh, god, is she-?'
'No, she's wonderful; I had an extra senzu bean; Vegan was the one- she's going you to call about Bulla in the morning; I managed to talk her into letting you meet if the phone call goes well.'
'What do you mean?!'
'If you make her angry, she might take Bulla away, and you never see her again.'
'Make her angry?! She abandoned my son and kept another child hidden for nearly three years! Probably out of spite!'
'Wasn't your affair with Yamcha designed out of spite!' Goku replied angrily. 'It was your intention for Vegan to find you! Despite what she did, I believe the tournament was not planned to hurt you!'
'Because she doesn't about think anyone but herself!'
'Fine, stay angry at her forever if you want but be prepared to lose Bulla again! Maybe forever this time!'
'So I'm supposed just to forgive her!' Bloomer stormed to the other side of the room.
'You don't have to forgive her, but you must make peace with her. For the sake of the children.'
'She's the one who should be trying to make peace with me!'
'I know, but-'
'She killed innocent people, Goku! Can you be on my side for once?!'
'This isn't about you or Vegan!' Goku flared. 'What about-'
'What about me?!'
'Why aren't you listening to me?' Goku flared. 'If you don't try to make peace, Vegan will take Bulla, and you will never meet her, and Trunks will never see his mother again!'
Bloomer looked away; Goku pulled out his phone. 'I have photos of Bulla-'
'Let me see!' Bloomer nearly tripped over his feet to get back to him. 'I want to see.' Bloomer snatched the phone, wondering who she looked like.
Bloomer strolled through the photos; each one reduced him to tears.
She was covered with cuts and bruises, and her skin was sallow.
'I wasn't sure if she'd make it, so I took photos. As you can see, she was injured in the crash. If Vegan leaves, that would be the only memory of your daughter.'
Bloomer shoved the phone away. 'You're cruel to let me see those.'
'You're cruel to let pride keep your family apart.'
'This isn't all on me, Goku. She has to bend too.'
'I'll handle Vegan.'
