PART I
ACT II
SCENE II
(NERV's elevator. GENDO, FUYUTSUKI and CONN all stand together in the elevator, CONN holding a folder in his free hand and GENDO wearing a one-way visor.)
CONN: (To the audience.) One of the worst things in life is an awkward moment in the elevator and unfortunately for me, I was standing in one with the man I had challenged to a duel. All I could do was stand there, thinking about what I had said. I am an archivist I have no combat training. The chance of me actually killing Commander Ikari in a duel was about as good as Troy having not fallen. (Looks over to GENDO for a moment before looking once more at the audience.) Odd, he usually wears glasses. Why the visor?
FUYUTSUKI: (To CONN.) Why did you decide to come to Tokyo-3, Mr. O'Sullivan?
CONN: I wished to get as far away from my… I wished to get as far away as possible, Doctor Commander Fuyutsuki.
FUYUTSUKI: Deputy Commander.
CONN: Yes, yes… Deputy Commander Fuyutsuki.
FUYUTSUKI: What is in that folder you are carrying?
CONN: Just some personal work, some articles I am writing that I hope to get published. They are "On the Subject of the Supernatural", "On the Subject of Mysterious Monsters", "On the Subject of Legendary Lands"— (Everyone loses their footing for a moment as HQ begins to shake.) Bugger me with a fish fork, what the hell was that? (The elevator opens and all three exit.)
NOTES
Originally, this scene was going to only featured Gendo and Conn. There would have been a brief bit of questioning from Gendo in regards to the duel that Conn challenged him to, asking if the latter has a revolver. Conn would have answered in the negative, resulting in Gendo offering him one. I ultimately found it out of character, though with any manner of fan fiction, I suppose any character runs the risk of seeming out of character depending on the view of the writer and the reader. Though, in all honesty, in my mind Gendo would have either given Conn an empty revolver or one that just doesn't work.
As is my intention to draw from various parts of the franchise, Gendo's wearing of a visor is derived from his Rebuild portrayal.
