The Equalizer Ch.3
The Kushites and alien -in-laws
Robyn found herself sitting on what appeared to be a plush reclining chair receiving a special golden necklace that was placed on her neck by Marcus.
"What's up with the gift?" she asked.
"Oh, it's not a gift it's a breathing tool it's about to melt into your skin and it isn't regular gold it's a special purified kind that alters your body's ability to function on another planet. It's a God given gift," he explained.
Just then it melted into her lovely pecan colored skin that became even more glowy.
"This just gets trippier and trippier am I awake right now? Did somebody spike my Faygo while I went to get another slice of pizza last night? Like what is life?" Robyn asked.
"It's not like you haven't had weirder experiences with gems and gold. Remember when you were on that special mission and had to smuggle diamonds in your braids and pan African head wrap then you had to vomit up that ruby you swallowed and then hid that golden nugget in your butt. Plus, you were pooing out small diamonds for a week, so this is nothing. Also, you made a point of explaining that our Black foremothers kid things valuable to them in their hair on the slave ships," he said with a chuckle.
"I was trying to forget about the fact that you weren't the only one who hid something in your butt," She admitted jokingly.
Just then a Black woman with elaborate golden rings in her hair walked to the ship lobby where Robyn lay reclined. The woman's forehead turned pink as she extended her hand in the direction of Robyn's abdomen.
Robyn felt warmth in her belly as though it were being massage from the inside out. "What are you doing in me? That feels kinda funny but good at the same time," Robyn said looking down at her stomach.
"I'm checking in with how your babies are feeling and what they are needing right now. I'm also evaluating your uterine temperature, if you need to eat, drink or your iron's low, which all are true so we will be feeding you shortly," the woman said as she continued toward's Robyn's pelvis.
"Hey! Hey! You are getting a little too probey! Please tell me you aren't doing this same thing to my family and friends too," Robyn said reluctantly.
"Fine, I won't tell you," the woman said as she concluded.
"Let's get you to your quarters and feed you those babies are starving," the woman said.
Just then as if on cue Robyn's stomach growled ferociously. Then she felt weight in her bowels, "I actually got to hit the can. Where is it?"
"Oh, perfect we can get a sample right now. I'll have sample containers put in immediately. Also, you are probably worried about your loved ones, but you can see them after you've eaten and rested, your body needs to cope with the breather elements I put in you to help you adjust to traveling through the worm hole."
"Do I get one phone call and exercise time to?" Robyn responded cheekily.
"Amusing, you have jokes. Let's get you to that bathroom Robyn. By the way my name is Habiba Aakifah, I'm the general of this vessel," the woman replied before using her telepathic powers to move both Robyn and the recliner to her room while Marcus followed suit.
After using the bathroom, Robyn was given a feast of foods that smelled tantalizing She wasn't sure if what looked like meat looked like meat and what was what, but she asked before eating. "None of this is like innards, animal testicles or anything like that is it? I have a friend who's a butcher and her dad fed them cow testicles and only told them what it was afterwards. Some people think that type of thing is hilarious," She explained.
"Robyn, I lived half of my life on earth with family that stayed behind. I am your people, and you are mine. We wouldn't do that to you. It's mountain pork, wild chicken and four horned beef plus veggies. Now eat up, I need you to keep up your strength, we need you to keep up your strength," Marcus said giving her belly and loving and playful stroke.
She at and then passed out asleep like it was Christmas dinner in a Black house. In her dreams she saw herself levitating above the CIA headquarters and in the air she saw her time as an agent flash through her current life span. Then she saw herself with five beautiful little children playing on a large plush property with her husband.
When she awoke she felt the urge to urinate, so she made her way to bathroom. When she to wash her hands, she looked up in the mirror and saw that her eyes were glowing purple. She shrieked.
Marcus immediately appeared by her concerned and attentive.
"Marcus, what the heck! I'm a freaking mutant! It must have been that funky food they fed me!"
"Roby, just relax it's the babies that are causing this. Male babies leave DNA in their mom's brain. It's just a temporary period of adjustment."
"What you mean a period of adjustment?! My eyes is purple! What's next my hands are going to be on fire?!"
"Babe, babe. I love you and I really don't want to use my powers to make you drowsy and sedate, but you need to calm down. You're upsetting the babies. You need to be stable for them. You're going to make yourself dizzy I can tell your equilibrium is off," He said before picking her up and cradling her.
"Now, do your eyes burn at all? Are they itchy or irritated?" he asked calmly as he brought her back to her bed.
"Nope, just look like laser beams and could light up New York during a black out." She said.
"I'm going to get the general to discuss this. There must be some remedy for this. There are other chosen spouses like you perhaps some of them are having similar issues."
"Oh, you mean like they're heads are on fire and their levitating now?" she quipped.
"Don't get cute with me baby," he said before dashing off.
"Me not get cute? You lied to me about your species and got me pregnant with babies that change my eye color and I'm not supposed to have an attitude? I tell ya these men got some nerve," she said sucking her teeth.
Just then she heard a familiar voice say, "I've been patient long enough where is my family and my mother's friends?"
Dee was trying to push past some ship security worker who was unsuccessfully trying to block her from the long vestibule that led to Robyn's room.
"Mom are you in there? Can you hear me?" she called.
"Yes. My ears are working fine but my eyeballs are disco balls," Robyn called.
Dee came to the threshold before exclaiming, "Woah! Mom are you wearing some weird Halloween costume contacts?!"
"No. It appears that your stepfather, my supposedly loving husband neglected to tell me where he was really from and now I'm pregnant with alien quintuplets, your siblings so… I'm fighting to hold onto reality and sanity at the moment."
"This feels like a bizarre dream. There's no way this is real right? It's like the Matrix or something," Dee said sitting by where her mom laid on the bed.
"The crazy thing is if anyone would have gotten me into this crazy situation, I thought it would have been Vince. Now he almost had me messed up," Robyn admitted somewhat lucidly.
"Who's Vince? Mom" Dee asked with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
"Just a bad decision from a different chapter of my life. He's sitting in an Iranian prison for war crimes involving him creating chemical viruses and their antidote for the CIA as tools of war He went rogue over some so-called righteous cause about racial oppression in the Middle East. He became known as Dr. Death or Dr. Grim. This is now public knowledge. Oh crap! The CIA thought Marcus and I were exposed to a new strain of COVID-19 while doing missions in the Crimean Peninsula. He must have intel from inside the prison and must have tried to put someone on us! He never too the divorce well. God why did he have to be so charismatic and handsome in college before going crazy. Thing is, I went with your father right after him and I had to protect your father, but he might know about him if he has been searching marriage licenses in this nation. Crap! I got to get Marcus. Your Daddy could be in danger!" Robyn exclaimed trying to get up to her feet.
"Mom I'll try to get him you need to take it easy," Dee said before walking no more than five feet away and loudly calling for Marcus into the echoing into the vestibule.
"Wow, I can really tell from the effort that you care about your father" Robyn quipped.
Marcus and the general emerged from the dark halls of the ship to Robyn's doorway.
"You mustn't have any more emotional outbursts, or you must be sedated. You are bothering your babies and putting them at risk," General Habiba said.
"I have cause to be alarmed. My first husband may have tried to kill Marcus and I. We need to be tested for a virus. Also, the father of my first born might be at risk for murder by bio terrorism. I can't just leave him behind on earth," she demanded.
"Rob, you're only job and focus should be on taking care of yourself and your babies. We can handle the situation for you but growing those babies is your job. I can sense from your energy levels that you aren't fully rested. Now Dee and everyone else can regroup with you later but you need to rest more so you aren't terrible jet lagged," Marcus said allowing the general subtly nudge a reluctant Dee out the door.
"I'll see you when you wake Mom please take it easy!" she said, acting as though she was leaving of her own free will and not being forced out.
"It seems impossible to rest and not worry," Robyn said sadly.
"Then let me put you to sleep with sweet lullabies of love," he said before singing the Supremes' "Up the Ladder to the Roof" and then using his gentle touch to send her back into the realm of dreams and twilight.
