Modern AU. Arthur and Gwen have known each other since they were kids. They fell in love when they got older and their relationship was approved by all, even by their parents, Uther and Thomas. But that wasn't the problem. Because of his uncle's influence, Arthur broke up with Gwen and this made a lot of people mad at him. After all this time, will he be able to fix everything?

Arthur was bound to notice at some point, the convenient falling tree branches and the not-so-subtle cases when a sword was pulled from enemy hands. Or, if he somehow managed to miss all this, maybe the way Merlin's eyes randomly turned gold clued him in. In short, Merlin uses his magic to save the prince, and Arthur is angry- only not for the reason Merlin thinks.

Merlin wakes up some day, and sees that his eyes are glowing gold, and there's nothing he can do about it. Gaius is away to a patient for at least three more days. Merlin doesn't know what to do, and has to hide his eyes, he doesn't want the whole castle to know he has magic right? But then he makes a discovery, there are much more consequences than he thought there would be.

It's the darker, more mature version of Merlin. Starts off light and sweet...but it's only the beginning. Rated M for later chapters
