Prompt: Sick Day
Hikari's whole body felt burning hot.
Tailmon stood over her worriedly, holding a towel to Hikari's forehead. "You're sick again, Hikari," she whispered.
Hikari tried for a smile. "Yeah, I know."
"I'll get some medicine," Tailmon offered. "There's still some in this apartment, right?"
"I… I think so," Hikari breathed out.
"I'll be back in a few moments," Tailmon said, jumping down off the bed and hurrying to the cabinet where Hikari kept her medicine.
As Hikari waited for Tailmon to come back, she thought about her next date with Takeru, which was supposed to take place in only three days. If Hikari didn't get better, then she wouldn't be able to go. I should call him, she thought dazedly, trying to reach for her phone, but her limbs felt so sluggish. She couldn't even get close.
"Hikari!" And then Tailmon was at her side, handing her the phone. "Don't try to overexert yourself, Hikari. If you need anything, just tell me."
"Thank you, Tailmon," Hikari whispered. She pulled up Takeru's contact then called him. It didn't take long for him to pick up.
"Hey, Hikari-chan!" Takeru greeted happily. "What's up?"
"I'm…" Hikari broke off to cough some before she continued. "I'm sick. We… may need to… reschedule the date."
"...oh." Takeru sounded worried. "Do you want me to come over?"
Hikari smiled weakly. "Yeah, I'd… I'd like that."
"Patamon and I will be over as soon as we can," Takeru said, determination in his voice. "Make sure to rest and let Tailmon take care of you, okay?"
Hikari laughed softly. "Yeah, I know. I have been sick before, you know."
"Right…" Takeru sounded a little embarrassed at that.
Hikari smiled. "Well, see you soon?"
"Yup, see ya!"
Hikari hung up the phone call and put the phone down right next to her. Tailmon picked up the medicine and asked, "Are you ready to take it now?"
Hikari nodded. "I am."
Takeru arrived approximately one hour later. Hikari had drifted into a light sleep by then, but the sound of the doorbell woke her. Tailmon's ears perked up and she said, "I'll get it," before jumping off the bed and rushing towards the door. Blearily, Hikari wondered how Tailmon would open the door when she was too short to reach the doorknob, but evidently she didn't need to worry, because Takeru was soon by her bedside, with a worried look on her face.
"Hikari-chan? Are you feeling any better?"
"Maybe a bit?" Hikari said, unsure. "I just took medicine an hour ago, so…"
"Good," Takeru murmured. "If you need anything, just ask me. I'll get you anything, as long as you feel better in the end…"
Hikari smiled gently. "Thank you, Takeru-kun."
"Do you want me to call your brother?" Takeru asked.
"No need," Hikari responded. "I… don't think my sickness is too bad right now. I don't… want him to worry… needlessly."
"I see," Takeru muttered. That look of worry was still on his face. "Could I stay the night, maybe?"
Hikari gave him a confused look. "Yeah, sure, but… why?"
"W-well…" Takeru stammered. "What if you get worse while I'm gone? I'm just… I'm just worried about you, you know. So…"
"Of course you can stay," Hikari smiled. She felt a flutter in her chest at Takeru's admittance of worrying for her. I'm glad he cares about me so much. "You probably have to sleep on the couch, though. The guest room is still messy from when oniichan was here."
Takeru laughed. "Of course."
"Shoo, shoo, she needs to get some rest," Tailmon broke in. Hikari spotted her and Patamon at the end of the bed, Tailmon with a stern look on her face.
"Alright, alright," Takeru held up his hands in surrender. "I'll go. Call me if you need anything."
"Will do," Hikari whispered. She felt sad as she watched Takeru leave the room, but she knew it was for the best. She really did need rest, after all.
Thankfully, Hikari was right when she said that the sickness wasn't too bad. The next morning, she woke up feeling much more refreshed. Tailmon soon woke up after her and rushed over. "Hikari. Are you feeling better?"
Hikari nodded. "Yeah, I am. I probably need to rest a while longer, but… I am."
A look of relief shone on Tailmon's face. "I'm glad. I'll get Takeru and Patamon." She vanished from the room, but soon returned with company.
"Hikari-chan," Takeru breathed out, rushing over. "I'm glad you're okay."
Hikari laughed a bit. "Yeah, I'm glad too. I'll probably rest for the rest of today, but… I'll be completely fine by the time of our date."
"If you don't, then just stay home," Takeru said sternly.
"I will," Hikari promised.
Takeru's expression was one of pure relief, and Hikari loved it. She loved how much Takeru cared about her, how he decided to stay the night so he could watch over her, how… just everything. Hikari truly loved Takeru. She could only hope he loved her back.
