Prompt: Letters

Hikari was the one who came up with the idea of the letters.

"We can give them to each other," she had suggested one day during their usual coffee. "So the other person can always have their partner's words written down." She glanced away, a blush on her face.

Takeru smiled. "That sounds like a great idea."

That day was the first day they had exchanged letters, Hikari giving one to Takeru, and now, every time they saw each other they would exchange letters once again.

It was almost time to go to sleep now, and Takeru was once again reading over Hikari's words in bed, smiling. Patamon sat next to him quietly, wide eyes staring at the letters in Takeru's hands.

After a few more moments of silence, Patamon finally spoke up. "You really like reading her letters, huh," he said in a teasing tone, eyes glittering.

Takeru let out a soft laugh and looked at him. "Yeah, I guess I do."

"Is it because you're in love with her?" Patamon questioned, still teasing. When Takeru's face flared red, Patamon continued. "Gosh, I wish I had someone to be in love with, if it meant reading letters late at night just before bed!"

Takeru chuckled and lightly tapped his partner on the head. "Oh, be quiet, you." He then paused, falling into silence for a moment. Patamon gave him a curious look.

"What's up?" The Digimon questioned.

"I just…" Takeru took a moment to search for words before speaking. "Yeah. I am in love with Hikari-chan, just…"

"Yeah, you don't know if she loves you back," Patamon recalled. "What of it?"

Takeru glanced away. "Well, what if she does love me back? I want to know, but… it's just hard. Because if she doesn't, then I could ruin this relationship, you know."

"Takeru…" Patamon breathed out.

"What do you think I should do, Patamon?" Takeru asked softly.

Patamon paused for a moment, a small hand on his chin, before replying. "I'm not too good with this love stuff, but I think you should confess to her."

Takeru blinked, startled. "Confess to her? Isn't it too early for that?"

"You've been dating for months now," Patamon pointed out. "I think it's around the right time. And Hikari would never throw you away just because you're in love with her."

Takeru thought about that for a moment. Patamon was right; Hikari was too nice to ruin what they had because Takeru felt too much towards her.

"You should try to confess to her soon," Patamon suggested.

Takeru breathed out, confusing emotions flowing through his body, but he said, "I'll try. Maybe on our next date."

Patamon grinned. "Great!"

"Are you ever going to tell Takeru you love him?" Tailmon asked one day, as the two lay in bed still unable to fall asleep.

Hikari choked on her water, and took a few minutes to breathe properly. Tailmon gave her a concerned look at that. "I'm fine," she muttered, though Tailmon still watched her until the coughing finally stopped. "Takeru-kun. Loving him."

Tailmon nodded. "Right."

Hikari let out a breath. "Okay. I. I don't know if I should tell him, because…"

"You're afraid he doesn't love you back," Tailmon continued.

Hikari smiled softly. "You know me so well. Yeah, there's that." She looked away. "He wouldn't stop being friends with me just because I'm in love with him, but still, it would become incredibly awkward."

"And if he loves you back?" Tailmon questioned.

Hikari blushed. "Well, that would be a good thing."

"Don't the pros outweigh the cons here?" Tailmon pointed out. "Just tell him, at, like, your next date."

"That's only in two days, Tailmon," Hikari huffed. "I don't think I can do it."

Tailmon smiled a little. "I believe in you, Hikari. You're definitely able to do it." The cat Digimon flopped back in bed. "Well, I need to sleep right now, so… You should try to sleep too."

Hikari laughed. "Alright." Just as she laid down again, she jolted up. "Ah! The letter! I forgot to write it!"

Tailmon rolled her eyes fondly. "Hurry up, then. If we go to sleep now, we'll get 5 hours, which is better than nothing."

"Alright, alright," Hikari chuckled, sliding into her chair and pulling out a card to write on.

As she pressed the pencil to the paper, she paused. What could she say? I love you? No, she was saving that for two days later. She pulled out Takeru's card he had given her at their last meeting, and she quickly scrawled down a reply to that, unsure what else to write.

She finished in 5 minutes, so she turned off the desk lamp and slid into bed next to Tailmon.

"That was quick," Tailmon noted.

"I didn't have much to write," Hikari admitted. "The things I really wanted to say… are reserved for our next date, I suppose." She smiled, blushing.

Tailmon smiled back. "Get some sleep."

"Okay, okay," Hikari chuckled again, and she closed her eyes and soon, she fell asleep.
