Sequel to The Ugliness of Things. Malcolm asks for a leave of absence to get reassessed by Starfleet in San Francisco. On his way there, however, the transport on which he is travelling is attacked and he finds himself stranded on a planet with other survivors. This story is complete in itself but is intricately linked with The Ugliness of Things, to which it often refers.

A unexpected meeting changes some of the Enterprise crew in ways they'd never imagined. Title taken from Mae West's quote: "You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough."

In his anger and grief, Trip's actions wreck what he and Malcolm had so carefully built with each other. Some mistakes can't be undone. Some things can't be rebuilt. All those words of aching apology, echoing in his head and left forever unsaid. OR: The five times Trip nearly caught up with Malcolm to talk to him in the aftermath of those days, and the one time he never will.

Our two bond-mates continue to do what is necessary to survive, as their shipmates work on a plan to use technology to go down and rescue them. Chapter 4, our intrepid duo is trying to make a home for themselves inside an Ice Giant planet while they await a rescue from their ship and crew. Time is accelerated on this world meaning that they will be here for months in the slower time the Enterprise takes to get to them. Lots of moving in together fun. Enjoy.

Part 3 picks up on the ledge overlooking what our two explorers hope to be their new home. Deep within this ice planet where time runs much faster than aboard ship, the bondmates begin to work out their issues, while learning how to set up house together as a couple. Enjoy.

A story of healing between the Enterprises' resident love birds. T'Pol needs to understand her culture but keeps pushing Trip away in the process.
