Like everyone, there were good days, and there were bad days.
On the good days, she felt like she could do almost anything without a single ounce of hesitation. And on bad days, it felt like she was going to go insane from anxiety that would influence her thoughts for absolutely no reason.
Today was one of those days.
It also did not help that she just got off a video call where she watched a horror film with her friends.
The house was dark, and she was standing by the front door as she look across the living room. The balcony door was open, she could tell that much as she could faintly see and hear the curtain blowing in the wind.
But her thoughts had already gotten the best of her, and she couldn't help but think that if she went up to go and close the balcony doors, something or someone was going to grab her. She deliberated for a few minutes, trying to muster up the courage to go over and lock the doors herself. She was 17 years old, she was almost a grown woman.
And as a nearly grown woman.
She was going to admit her faults and admit that although she needed to close the door, she couldn't at the moment.
Dayeon nodded her head in understanding.
Yep.
This was a job for her brother.
No doubt about it.
Keeping a careful eye on the open door, she crept over to Ijin's bedroom and slipped inside. His room was just as dark as the rest of the house, but the dim light of his alarm clock was enough to illuminate the nightstand. From that, she was able to infer the general location of her brother's bed.
Carefully, she walked over to his bed," Ijin," She kept her voice low, trying her best to wake him up, but not startle him awake," Ijinnnnn," She dragged out his name, and that, combined with her gently tapping his arm, he woke up.
He hummed, and she could hear him turning over in his bed," mmmm wha' you want?" her brother's habit of leaving out words when he was half-awake made her feel somewhat better.
"Can you go lock the balcony door for me?"
She knew that made him wake up a little bit more. There was a deep breath as her brother dumbly said," Huh?"
"The balcony door." She repeated, trying her best to look at her brother's face in the dark room," Can you lock it for me?"
There was a sigh, and a sound that made her think he flopped back into bed," Go lock it yourself Dayeon." She would have been offended that he was slightly annoyed. But to fair, it was the middle of the night, and she had woken him up for a task that even she found stupid.
"Please," her voice was meek," I'm scared someone's going to try to come in when I go to lock it."
It was completely silent, and she was sure that he was making some type of face at her words.
"…Dayeon. We live on the fifth floor."
That was true. But anxiety was truly horrible sometimes.
"Please?"
She stood there anxiously for one second, and then two.
"…Fine."
She could have jumped for joy right then and there," I love you."
The sound of blankets rustling cued her to take a step back," Hrng," Ijin grunted as he stood up," Love you too," He walked to his bedroom door, and she was following closely behind him," Idiot."
It wasn't the first time he had called her an idiot (Like the time she somehow managed to put a hole in the drywall in her room) and just like the times before. It was fair.
She followed him out into the hallway, and lingered by the kitchen as she watched the faint silhouette of her brother going over to the balcony door," Shut up Babyboo." That didn't mean she was just going to take the insult laying down.
Ijin made a confused noise, easily pushing the curtains aside to close and lock the balcony door," Babyboo?"
She hummed, not bothering to explain the sudden nickname," Yeah."
"Okay," her brother said simply, already walking back to her," I'm going back to sleep."
"Goodnight Babyboo."
She waited until she heard a quiet," Night Dayeon." Before she went back to her room, ready to go to sleep.
It was great having a brother.
The sensation of his bed dipping under someone's weight woke him up. And he knew exactly who it was.
"Dayeon," His voice was groggy with sleep, but that didn't stop her from laying at the bottom of his bed.
"Yeah?" she had not a single ounce of shame in her voice, even as nudged his feet to the side so she could fit at the bottom.
"What's wrong?" Because it was rather odd that she had climbed into his bed like that.
At that exact moment, there was a crash of thunder, and a flash of lightning that made both of them jump.
Well, no wonder she was in his bed. Although he was sure that she hated it for a different reason, they both shared a mutual hate of thunder.
He sighed, and rolled onto his side so she could have more space," You better not kick me." He threw a pillow at her, not even trying to make sure that he didn't hit her.
There was a sound of impact, and he could feel her sitting up to put the pillow under her head," You're the one who has clown feet." That was fair, his feet were much bigger than hers, but at the same time, he was an entire foot taller than her.
"Yeah yeah. Whatever," He had a brief struggle with the blanket before they found a middle point," Your feet don't even reach my shoulder."
She made a disgruntled noise," I'll fight you."
He tapped his heel against her," Bite me."
A hand wrapped around his foot, and his foot was being pulled towards her," Wait no!" he yanked his foot out of her hand.
And promptly kicked the wall.
He couldn't stop the small squeak even if he wanted to.
"Pfft!" she started laughing at him," Stupid." Her voice was barely heard, he could hear the strain in her voice as she tried to restrain her laughter.
He scrunched up his nose," Shorty."
She giggled," That's fair. Goodnight Babyboo."
He took that as the cue for them to go to sleep.
"Night Dayeon."
He felt his eye twitch as he elbowed a plushy mass yet again.
"Dayeon," He said slowly, feeling all types of annoyed as he looked down at his sister that was standing far too close," I swear, I will punch you if I elbow your boob one more time."
He wasn't attracted to women in the slightest, in fact, he wasn't attracted to anyone. Meaning that the feeling of a boob rubbing against his elbow was not welcome in the slightest. And the fact that it was Dayeon's because she kept on standing too close, made it even worse.
She frowned back at him," You're the one who keeps on moving. You watch it."
The fact that she was an entire foot shorter than her, made it exceedingly easy for him to elbow her in the boob since she was so short.
Almost a fair point.
If she wasn't the one who kept on standing too close.
"You're the one who keeps on standing to close to me."
"It's not like I mean to stand too close."
And just as he turned to inform her that she could just take a step back.
It happened again.
He felt his eye twitch again.
Dayeon ran away," Get back here!" Her chuckles only seemed to annoy him even more.
"You're not supposed to hit girls!"
Sounded like the most bullshit thing he had ever heard. He used to hit women all the time when they attacked him when he was a mercenary.
"I don't care!"
Dayeon laughed even harder," You're not supposed to hit people!"
She had been too distracted in laughing and running away from Ijin to realize that as she swung her arm back, the decorative vase was going to fall victim to her elbow.
It crashed to the ground.
They froze.
The curse slipped out before he realized it," Fuck." Dayeon shot a glare at him, momentarily more upset about the curse. He ignored her look as he asked," Do you think we can fix it ourselves?"
Dayeon looked down at the vase, an uncertain look on her face," Um…"
He already knew that there was something wrong.
"Please don't tell me it was something important."
She cringed," It was grandma's…"
…
Fuck.
They stared at each other for a few seconds, trying to figure out what to do to save the relic that they had inadvertently broken.
Sighing, Ijin pulled out his phone," I'll find a repair shop."
"Yeah."
"Keep it a secret from Grandpa until we fix it?"
"Keep it a secret from Grandpa until we fix it."
Good to know they could agree on some things.
The sound of an alarm from the next room woke her up far too early on Sunday. She groaned," Ugh…Ijinnnnnnnnn." She groaned out, listening carefully for any sign of life from her brothers," Ijinnnnnn. You're gonna be lateeeeee." Sometimes, it was surprisingly hard to get Ijin to wake up.
It was silent, and through the wall, she could hear a groan," Ugh…Okay…" Not a good sign.
She spoke a little bit louder, with no fear of waking up Grandpa as she was sure that he was already off at his job," Don't go back to sleep nincompoop."
His voice was still muffled through the wall," You're not the boss of me."
She huffed, arching her back as she stretched in bed to get more comfortable," You're gonna be late."
"…Fine."
She smiled when she heard him start walking around in his bedroom.
More sleep for her.
