Baby Girl

"Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, to be needed." Margaret Storm Jameson

Her eyes were barely opened a crack as she peered at the clock on the bedside table. Sam had only been asleep, a deep exhausted sleep, for not even twenty minutes, and oh god no, she was screaming again.

In the living room, pacing, was the two of them. He held her cheek to cheek in a gentle embrace. His big hands caressing her, one on the back of her head and back the other on her bottom, patting her gently. She could see him speaking in her ear. As the wailing quieted to wimpers she could hear what he was saying as he was swaying, rocking her back and forth.

"It's okay...I've got you...We love you baby girl...It's alright...It's gonna be alright." over and over again.

There was nothing more beautiful than the sight of her husband and their new baby daughter.

Now if only she could sleep.
