It still felt like he could sleep for another three days. The doctor had warned him that he was going to be tired until his shoulder healed ("You heal when you sleep.") and he knew that it was going to happen. But he didn't know that after a few weeks of sleep, he was still going to be so tired.
It was his first day back to school after being shot in the shoulder, and he was garnering attention with the sling that was keeping his arm tight to his chest, and the mask that was on his face. That combined with his desire to go back to sleep, left him testier than usual. The mask was annoying him and his immune system was still shit compared to everyone else. While he hadn't thought of wearing a mask upon his return to school, it was Dayeon and grandfather that made him realize that he was just going to get sick again if he didn't. Though it would be nice if he didn't have to wear the stupid thing.
And after almost an entire week of suffering from infections, viruses, and a fever that made it difficult to think, he was not going to risk getting sick again. Not after that shitshow and embarrassment that he experienced when he realized that his friends had helped keep an eye on him and his feverish ramblings (He really didn't like the fact that he couldn't remember anything after his fever spiked)
His shoulder was already on week four of healing, but it was still tender and sensitive. His muscles had yet to heal completely so they still weren't strong enough to be able to support his arm comfortably, hence the sling. Seokju had been kind enough to stay on his left side, using his body as a barrier from the overly curious students that either welcomed him back (He wasn't even friends with them so he found that odd) or the students that came up to ask questions about his absence and injury. He knew that Seokju would keep anyone from coming too close and he would keep anyone or anything from accidentally jostling his shoulder.
Seokju must have thought that he was being discreet about using his body as a shield, especially since he did it of his own accord without prompt.
But Ijin noticed, and he truly appreciated it.
Dayeon was still fussing over him despite the fact that she was carrying his backpack (That she refused to let him carry in her presence) even as they walked into his class, the others and Baek training behind.
"Be careful, wait until everyone else leaves before you come out after school."
He huffed," I know Dayeon." Besides, it's not like the others would let anyone get close enough to potentially bump into his shoulder.
"Don't forget to take the medicine if your shoulder starts hurting." There was a worried tone in her voice, and if it wasn't for the fact that she and grandfather had been the ones caring for him with his fevers and bandages, he would have thought that she was overreacting.
He sighed again, but before he could even do anything," You worry too much Dayeon," Baek cut in, a smile on his lips, as he took Ijin's backpack and hung it onto the desk hook," He's gonna be fine."
"Yeah!" Hyeokjin cut in, a bright smile on his face as he said," We're gonna be just fine. We won't let him bump his shoulder!" Hyeokjin patted his shoulder in what should have been a comforting way. If he had tapped the right shoulder.
He was snarling out a foul curse under his breath before he realized it. Even he knew that if he had said it in Korean, he would have gotten more than one disapproving or stunned look from the others if they had been able to understand it. There was a bright hot pain emanating from his shoulder after Hyeokjin had patted it so roughly. It took nearly half a minute before the pain died down to a throb that inconvenienced him at best and he, at last, opened his eyes to glare at a stunned Hyeokjin.
"You're an idiot." He hadn't hissed out his words, but anyone with a brain could hear the hints of anger in his voice, his anger covering up the pain he was feeling.
"Shit sorry man," Hyeokjin immediately apologized, a bashful look on his face as the others called him their own insults," Are you okay?"
He huffed (And pointedly avoided Dayeon's eyes) and nodded his head," Yeah yeah," All he had to do was find something to distract him and it wouldn't bother him too much. He was holding onto his shoulder, and slowly let go as he said," It'll stop hurting in a few minutes."
And just like that, Dayeon was going through his bag and almost slammed the orange bottle onto the desk," Take it." Her voice was firm, a tone that was starting to get somewhat old as she only used that tone when he was particularly annoying her.
It was the only bottle of medicine that he refused to take unless he thought he needed it, it had already caused more than one argument back at home," I'll take it later." He tried to deflect the demand but knew that she wasn't going to back down in the slightest.
She scrunched up her face in that way of hers when she was getting upset," Take it or I'm calling Major Kang and Dae-Hyun." She was openly frowning at him, looking thoroughly annoyed that he didn't take it on the first try.
He narrowed his eyes, doubting her words as he said, " You don't have their numbers."
He felt everyone lean away from them as Dayeon, all without breaking eye contact, opened up her phone and played an audio recording of the only medic that he listened to.
" Ijin I swear to god if you don't take your fucking medicine and I find out, I will go down there and stuff it down your fucking throat. Do. Not. Make me go down there." Dae-Hyun's voice was irate, and if it wasn't for the fact that he knew that she was playing an audio recording, he would have thought that the medic was on a phone call.
Fucking traitors.
And the look that Dayeon gave him. It was a look that he had used many times when he was back in the Camp. It was a looked that practically dared people to test him. To see what would happen if they continued on their current path. He almost considered refusing one more time.
But at the same time, he knew that Dae-Hyun did not make empty threats, and if the medic couldn't come down to shove the medicine down his throat himself, there was no doubt about Major Kang being on the same page as his sister and the medic. Chances were rather high that they would send someone else from the squad in Dae-Hyun's stead. He knew that they didn't care if they showed up a few days late, they would still come just to prove a point.
He wasn't happy about it.
But he knew that it was either the pill or an ass chewing from Dae-Hyun.
"Fine," He spat out, Dayeon's face brightening as if he agreed to closing the balcony door for her again. He held out his hand for the medicine, waiting for her to give it to him because as much as it annoyed him, he couldn't open the bottle himself, " Why can't you be this stubborn for everything?" If she had been that stubborn in the endeavor to be left alone by her bullies, surely she would have done something to be left alone.
She was a sweet person, but once he annoyed her (Which was rather often nowadays) she was just as stubborn as him, if not more.
Thoroughly annoyed by the way she was forcing him to take a pill for the pain he could most definitely tolerate, he kept on scowling even after he dry swallowed the pill, much to his sister's joy.
She's been caring for him for the past two weeks, and despite the fact that they got along rather well, they could only spend so much time together (Most of the time being filled with Dayeon getting annoyed with Ijin's stubbornness and Ijin's getting annoyed with his sister's insistence) before someone got annoyed.
Them arguing was a rather new occurrence, but it wasn't anything more than a temporary annoyance, the two of them quickly became amiable once the conversation ended.
Dayeon looked triumphant as she boldly said," Because then I would be a stubborn idiot like you."
…
Alright, rude.
Before he could even say anything in retaliation, she smiled," I'll give your friends Dae-Hyun's number if you don't take the medicine," He glared as Dayeon turned to the others, all of whom had been observing their little sibling spat," Make sure he takes it again at the end of school."
And just like that, she was grabbing Baek by his arm and started dragging him out of the classroom so they could get to their own class.
"So…" Jaehyung started out slowly, an awkward silence between the five of them after watching Ijin argue with his sister like that," After school huh?" There was a teasing tone in his voice.
He felt his anger peak again.
"Fuck off."
"Hey uh…what was that all about?"
"The kid's sister asked me to send an voice clip for the next time he avoids taking his medicine."
"Ah, got it. Good job."
"Thanks."
