Chapter 6 Engagement

Diluc's POV

The party was in full swing.

However, all of the guests suddenly became quiet as their gazes went to the stairs.

I followed their gazes, and when I did…my breath was taken away.

Jean came down wearing a beautiful black ball gown with red accents; the colors that represented the Ragnvindr Clan.

Her hair was also done and she was wearing make-up.

I had never seen Jean like this before. She was beautiful.

When Jean reached the bottom of the stairs, I recomposed myself and walked up to her.

I held out my hand and she took it.

I then led her to the middle of the room.

"Everybody", I started. "May I please have your attention?"

I don't know why I needed to say that. Everybody's eyes were already on Jean and I.

"Thank you all very much for coming tonight", I started. "Now that you are all here, I can tell you what the purpose of this party was."

With that, I took a deep breath.

"We have decided that, for the sake of Mondstadt, the Ragnvindr Clan and the Gunnhilder Clan should be united into one", I revealed. "In order to do this…Master Jean and I will be getting married."

When I said these words, everybody was understandingly surprised.

"I hope you will all support us in this decision", I said. "Thank you."

Once I finished saying this, some of the knights came up to Jean and I.

"My my my", Kaeya started. "Isn't this a surprise."

"I'll say", Lisa agreed.

"Congratulations on your engagement, Jean and Master Diluc", Amber said.

"Yes", Venti said as he walked up to us. "Congratulations, you two. Please, allow me to sing you a song to celebrate your engagement!"

"Um…", Barbara started nervously as she walked up to us. "Excuse me. I don't mean to sound rude, but…if you don't mind…I would really like to be the one who sings for Je…I mean, Master Jean and Master Diluc."

After Barbara said this, Venti started thinking.

"I know", he started. "Why don't we perform together! You can sing while I play the Lyre!"

"Sure", Barbara replied. "I don't mind at that all!"

Some time later, the party had ended and all of the guests had gone home.

Jean however, was still at the Dawn Winery.

"That was a lovey party", she stated. "I'm glad that everybody reacted well to the news of our engagement."

"I'm glad as well", I agreed.

"Well then", Jean started. "I too should be heading home for the night."

"Before you go", I started. "There's something I wanted to give you."

With that, I took a black velvet box out from my pocket.

I opened it, revealing a black ring with a red stone.

"Master Diluc", Jean started.

"This ring has been in my family for generations", I revealed. "And now, I give it to you."

With that, I put the ring on Jean's finger.

Then…I kissed her hand.
