His attention is on high alert. His eyes keep wandering around, looking for anything that might harm them. His ears are strained, listening for any sounds that might be near them.
They're in a new city, far away from her office, far away from UA, far away from Musutafu. It's not the first time Miruko had brought him on a mission away from home, but the new environment never fails to make him wary of everything. It's a lesson taught by Napkin during his first away mission with her, and he had followed it without fail ever since.
'It never hurts to be extra cautious,' he repeats the words Napkin said to him in his head as they make their way down the street. They're on their way to the agency of a Hero he doesn't care to remember their name for a debriefing on the mission. It shouldn't be too far now, if he remembers correctly.
Right as he sees the building, he also sees a familiar face.
"Eraser?" Miruko says in total surprise. His teacher looks up at them, stopping from entering the building, when his name is called. He could see his eyebrows shoot up, showing that he is also surprised to see them here. "Fancy seeing you here. We're on the same mission?"
"It seems so," Aizawa answers, waiting for them to arrive. "Bakugou," he greets him, as usual.
"Teach," he greets back but also gives him a suspicious look. The other extras had mentioned that their mentors would coincidentally join on a mission similar to Aizawa. As he stares at those eyebags, it makes him wonder if those are coincidental at all.
Caterpillar merely stares back silently.
"Why do they need an Underground Hero with your caliber?" Napkin asks, breaking the eye contact between them and seemingly doesn't realize the look he and Hobo Teacher exchanged.
"Probably an undercover mission or perhaps just extra manpower," Hobo Teacher answers simply.
"Eh, you're probably right. Shall we?"
.
"It's too far from home here, so we need to book a room somewhere," Miruko starts as soon as they exit the debriefing room once it is completed.
"There is a motel nearby," he replies as they make their way out the building.
"Great, book a room for us," Miruko orders. He rolls his eyes and grumbles beneath his breath before he heads to where the motel is at. It's not very far from here; just a couple of blocks away. "You wanna join us, Eraser?"
He snorts. She really thinks she could convince him with just that? He knows Aizawa is a hard man to budge, stubborn just like him. If she wants him to be there, she has to try harder than that. Did she not learn anything from all those times she had spent with Aizawa?
Fortunately for Napkin, he knows a way to move him.
"Take the offer, Hobo," he says over his shoulder, supporting Miruko's words, before his teacher could give his answer. "At least take the night. And then ya can do whatever the fuck you want as soon as morning comes, or whatever."
He hears Caterpillar hums with a hit of amusement beneath him.
"I'm going with you two anyway," his teacher replies. He tries not to stumble in his tracks at the answer.
He's surprised Caterpillar is willing.
Does that actually mean Miruko had successfully convinced Aizawa with her simple words?
"Fine, whatever," he mutters, and doesn't care if Aizawa hears it or not.
Once they are arriving at the motel, he heads over to the counter while Aizawa and Miruko waits somewhere. Upon asking for any free rooms, the person behind the counter shows a bunch.
Suddenly, his eyes catch onto one… particular room.
Smirking mischievously, he books said room.
.
"What the fuck do you mean only one bed?!"
"I said what I fucking said, Napkin!"
"Can't you book another room with at least TWO?!"
"How the fuck should I know this has only one?! I get the cheapest and fucking done it. Just be happy we got a room anyway."
While Miruko is fuming with her face beaten red, Aizawa is massaging his head from a growing headache. He expects as much. He already knew that he would get these. But it has to be done. There was nothing he could do about it.
"I'm takin' the couch," he quickly says before anyone does. Napkin's glare only intensifies while Hobo Teacher doesn't look any different. He's still rubbing his temples.
He's still surprised Teach is still here.
"Says who?" Miruko growls out.
"Says ME!" he shouts at her as he makes his way to the couch. "I ain't sleepin' on that shit after hearin' your noisy ass mouth complainin' and I stand by what I said! I'm takin' the fucking couch." He doubles down his words by firmly planting his ass on the couch. Thank fuck there is an extra pillow for him to use. He doesn't want to wake up with a sore neck because a sore neck is a pain in the neck.
He ignores the flaming glare that is shooting directly at him by Napkin.
"I'll sleep on the floor," he hears Aizawa says in a strained, dry voice, showing his own displeasure of the situation.
"None of you gonna fucking guilt trip me into taking the bed," Miruko snaps at his teacher before turning around to give him another round of glare, really doubling down her anger. She's not going to stop that, isn't she?
"I'm an Underground Hero, Miruko," Caterpillar says, gaining back Napkin's attention. "Comfort is unnecessary in stakeout."
"Well I'm not using the bed either."
"Illogical decision."
"The fuck you said about me, yarnball?"
Ah fuck, it's starting. He quickly lies down on the couch, making himself comfortable before turning around and presents his back to the two Heroes. Thankfully he doesn't gain the attention of either two Heroes. Either that or they're ignoring him.
"Just take the bed, Miruko. It's open for you." He could hear the strain in Hobo Teacher's voice, showing his patience is growing thin.
"I ain't taking the bed since you two make it sounds like I am being a bitch," Napkin fights back.
"I'm sure neither of us ever thinks of you as such."
He snorts.
Something smacks the back of his head. By the sound of it clattering on the floor, he guesses it's a remote control or something.
"Even by then, I am sure Bakugou doesn't mean it."
He tries not to swallow at the hard glare he is feeling on the back of his head, one that is completely different from Miruko's and is definitely coming from Teach.
"Too late, ain't taking it," Miruko says. She sounds like she has her nose turned up and has her arms crossed in defiance.
"Miruko."
"Stop your yapping and you take the bed."
"Miruko, just take the bed-"
"I will not fucking-"
"Now you're being-"
*SLAM* *SLAM* *SLAM*
"SHUT UP!"
He hears a muffled voice coming from the wall.
The room is now completely filled with silence.
Both OG Eyebags and Napkin have finally stopped arguing, but he could still feel the tension in the room. The matter is not solved and any second now it might continue but only quieter.
Now is his chance.
"Look," he starts in a quiet voice – mainly not to disturb the neighboring room – while turning towards them, lifting his body up by the elbow. "Why don't ya two just take the bed together and shut the fuck up?"
He witnesses both Hobo Man and Napkin freeze.
Is it him or is Miruko slowly turning red?
Aizawa… Well, he can't tell any difference from that man.
He could see them mulling on the idea, with Napkin biting her bottom lip while Aizawa… barely shows any visible expression because of course that man is completely stoic and probably dead inside.
"Urgh, fine," Miruko finally groans while rolling her eyes to the ceiling. "Only if yarnball here agrees." He sees her glances at Caterpillar. She's turning redder now and it is not a trick of his eyes.
"If it means a good night's rest then so be it," Teach relents with a heavy sigh.
"Alright then," Miruko nods.
Despite what is said, neither of them moves from the spot. They end up staring at each other silently.
Miruko is slowly turning just a tad redder.
He doesn't know whether he should laugh or slap his face at the awkwardness the pair is giving out.
"Fucking get to it, already," he urges them with a growl. "Sun ain't waitin' for ya."
Napkin stiffens while Hobo Teacher releases a sigh.
"I'll take the right side," Aizawa says as he approaches the only bed in the room.
"Wait, our right or the bed's right?" Miruko asks as Teach pulls open the cover.
"Yes."
"What?"
He holds back the urge to smirk as he watches them hesitantly get into the bed. Well, no need to watch them any further. Seeing as it is a great success, after a few hiccups along the way, it's time to rest for the night for him. He lies back down and turns his back towards them once more. As the comfortable silence begins to envelop the room, his body begins to relax.
"Aren't you a little too far away?"
"I'm comfortable enough, shitfuck."
"…Come on, no need to be so polite."
"…If you say so…"
"…How are you feeling?"
"…You're warm."
.
His eyes open on their own. Immediately he knows it's early in the morning. He thanks his internal clock for that. He sits up and feels the sore throughout his body from sleeping on the couch. Luckily, his neck is fine thanks to the pillow. He stands up and stretches, easing the sore.
Immediately, his eyes trail to the bed.
Aizawa and Miruko are comfortably snuggling each other underneath the cover, with Miruko completely engulfed by Aizawa's deceptively large frame (that man is fucking broad for his stature).
Neither of them looks like they're going to wake up any time soon. They look very comfortable in each other's arms, sleeping so soundly. In fact, this is probably the first time he had seen the man sleep so long and so deep.
But their paradise has come to an end.
With a heavy heart, he kicks onto the bedframe's leg, shaking the bed. Almost immediately, Teach's eyes snap open.
That man and his paranoia…
"Oi, get up," he says, watching as Hobo Man's eyes dart around before landing on him. "It's mornin' already. Get sleepin' beauty up and then we'll head out."
He watches with amusement when Hobo Teacher's eyes suddenly widen before they snap to Napkin in his arms. Said eyes get impossibly wider.
"I'll be waitin' outside," he says to his teacher before turning around and heading for the door. He doesn't bother to wait for a reply or see a reaction.
Aizawa could figure out the rest on his own.
He smirks in satisfaction.
His own personal mission is a success.
.
It takes about seven minutes for the pair to finally get out. Aizawa looks like he is now recomposed, back to his usual stoic self. Miruko, on the other hand, is beet red while avoiding eye contact with Aizawa beside her.
"Took ya two long enough," he comments as Caterpillar throws the room key to him. Caterpillar doesn't show any visible reaction but Napkin is glaring at him.
He merely turns around and heads for the counter, which is conveniently very close to the room they had stayed in. He notices the employee looking past him and towards Aizawa and Miruko, giving them a curious look. He looks over his shoulder to look at the pair.
They're walking side by side, huh?
"Why did you cancel the room with three beds for the single bed one?"
Aizawa and Miruko stop in their tracks.
"It's cheaper," he answers as he hands the key to the employee. With that done, he turns around and walks away, towards the two Heroes. They slowly turn around simultaneously, giving him a similar glare.
He merely puts up an innocent look he had learnt in class thanks to the extras.
