Octavia Ember-

Personality/History: The aggressive wild card Octavia is the total opposite of her partner Gwen. She is hostile to everyone she meets for the first time. It's a real challenge to get on her deeply-buried soft side. But hard enough when you take her past into account.

When Octavia was six, she and her parents traveled with a caravan to southern Vacuo. But it was attacked by Grimm, leaving Octavia the sole survivor. Alone and lost in the middle of the desert, no one knew where she was or if she was alive. All of that in the mind of such a young girl causes her aura to unlock, then later her sand traversing semblance.

Octavia had to survive on her own. But when she discovers a herd of camels, Octavia follows them. She later learned they belonged to a clan of sand bandits. At first, these bandits weren't fond of having this little girl around. But they quickly changed their minds when they saw her help them during a rumble with a different clan. The leader saw potential in young Octavia and took her in.

For the next six years, Octavia traveled around the Vacuan deserts with the bandits. She soon learns the full extent of the dog-eat-dog world that is Vacuo. They trained her on how to fight and survive. Octavia excelled thanks to her scrappy nature and aggressiveness in combat.

That all changed when the huntsmen raided the bandit camp and took her into custody. While waiting in a holding cell, Octavia overheard the bandit leader vouching for her by taking the heat for stuff she did with the bandits. Even though Octavia wouldn't rot in a jail cell, she still tragically lost another family.

Later she is given one visit with the bandit leader before he gets taken to jail. He managed to get Octavia to consider becoming a huntress and not let her talents go to waste.

Five years later, She became a student at Shade Academy. Only to get partnered with her polar opposite, Gwen Darcy. But that's a story for another day.

Semblance: "Sand Skating" Allows her to traverse sandy environments at high speeds. She continuously trains every day, so she's not limited to sand.

Writing for Octavia was one of my favorites. It just shows you how Vacuo functions, and kind of similar to Yang and Raven's in a way.
