Within two weeks of the semester starting at Clock Tower, Waver finds himself mired in academic squabbles amongst his fellow lords that contribute nothing of value to the actual goals of the Association - that is unless dumb arguments are their goals which after twelve years Waver suspects might actually be the case.

Such a loss had meant the Mage Association needed to save face and fast, and so they began the process of issuing the harshest punishment they could: a sealing designation. One for Waver Velvet and one for Rin Tohsaka, with more to follow.

Again, Waver does not respond. He does not correct her, because he knows, in that terrible numb way that unforgivable truths come home to rest, that she cannot be corrected. If there is no dismantling the Grail while leaving one stone of Fuyuki atop another, that will be the price for it. It is the sort of thing, he thinks, that deserves outrage.

Shirou stares. "I thought you said you two were friends, Rin." "We are," Rin and Waver chorus together. "I'm pretty sure friends don't insult each other," Shirou adds, not sure what to make of the bickering. "We do," Waver shrugs. "It's just our own very special version."

Waver smiles grimly at that and leans back in his chair, lifting two of its legs off the ground. A sharp, deprecating laugh follows. "And what are you so intent on writing about that name alone will not save you from the critique of your peers and professors?" "I want to address the potential for dismantling the Fuyuki City Holy Grail."

In the end, there were only two heroes. She was a glimpse of a radiant light in the cave of shadows. He was a powerful ray, eternally luminous. Ten years had passed since that day at Ryuudo Temple. The grail was destroyed, not a single wish granted and the person Shiro wanted to hold closest was taken away to an inevitable fate.
