The arrival of John's Halloween costume introduces Sherlock to the wonderful world of Tolkien and it doesn't take long before he's hooked. Later when John returns injured from the party after a rather unfortunate encounter with a few orcs Sherlock isn't quite sure what to feel, he likes the chance to care for injured Bilbo, but he hates to see an injured John.
