Gregory is searching the corridors of Holmes Manor for his partner. In doing so he happens to over a conservation between Mycroft and his mother. Although he has difficulty understanding the actual conversation he understands that Mycroft will need him more than ever.

She means something, this woman that he knows through deduction and through John but whom he can never meet.

When John starts working at a stable to pay for his schooling, he doesn't expect to meet anyone as thoroughly insane as Sherlock Holmes.
