Spectamit

The Righteous Specter Pokémon

Type = Ghost/Dragon

Does not Evolve

Description

The Spectamit is an unusual pokémon, defying the expectations held by people regarding there elemental types. Unlike most ghost types Spectamit is not mischievous or malicious, and unlike most dragon types they are not prideful or greedy. Indeed, the general disposition of a Spectamit can be described as Righteous.

Self-appointed dispensers of justice, Spectamit's are the main reason why ghost types mostly stick to pranks, as they are quick to combat any wicked ghost types. This attitude is not limited to ghosts, as any pokémon that can be called wicked can expect to earn the ire of a Spectamit. Not even Legendaries are exempt from justice, as a Spectamit will fight any being who seeks to harm the innocent or break the laws of morality. However, they are wise and merciful, understanding the complexities of society and mindsets of others. They enforce the spirit of the law rather than the letter, but do not for a moment think they are less capable for it.

A Spectamit treats being captured very seriously. Any trainer has to be worthy, by finding it and beating it in combat. However, if it deems a trainer in need of protection it can allow itself to be captured. Should an unethical trainer try to capture it, a Spectamit will escape no matter what type of pokéball is used. When captured by a trainer, a Spectamit will serve faithfully and willingly, defending them not just in battle but also escaping their ball temporarily to ensure no pokémon hurts them or criminal preys on them. A Spectamit will only betray a trainer should they abuse their pokémon or otherwise break the code of ethics expected of all pokémon trainers. If a trainer does so, the Spectamit will wait until the timing of its leave will do the most damage. However, a Spectamit does understand that mistakes happen and the principle of Hanlon's razor, so they are very forgiving. However, one thing must be made clear. If your Spectamit leaves or seemingly betrays you, you had it coming. After all, any and all seeming disobedience from a loyal Spectamit will prove to be what saves a trainer's life.

Despite the good heart and wise mind this pokémon always has, its appearance can be very scary. A Spectamit has the head of a crocodile, the front paws and torso of a lion, and the hindquarters and legs of a hippo. It also has a wild mane of orange hair that can best be described as like a burning fire. Many depictions of a Spectamit show them living in lakes of fire, such was the nature of the mane. The fiery image is not helped by the fact that the mane of a Spectamit is constantly buffeted by ghostly winds. It was not until a Spectamit allowed itself to be pet that it was realized that the mane was in fact hair.

Professor Pines tale

I owe my life to a Spectamit. This is no exaggeration, for when I started my journey I was set upon by a Moskellito, a hostile Ghost/Bug Pokémon resembling a mosquito. Now, I have a fear of bugs and Bug types ever since I was almost killed by a Beautifly when I was but 5 years old, which was later reinforced by a near death experience with a Beedrill but two years later. As I froze in fear of the multisected eyes that to this day drive my phobia, I was certain I would die before I began.

But before the unholy proboscis could suck my life force, I was saved by a Spectamit. This heroic pokémon not only drove off the hostile ghost but also became my starter. This Spectamit, after causing the Moskellito to retreat, came up to me and captured herself. Amu, as I have named her, has been my savior countless times. Amu is probably the biggest, if not the only, reason I even survived my journey. This is why I have been slightly unprofessional in putting Spectamit's entry first.

Sidebar: On Starter Pokémon

While I cannot say many good things about most of my fellow professors, with professional courtesy being the sole reason I have a moderately good relationship with the majority of my colleagues, I can state with complete certainty that the starter program is an overall good idea, and I can see no way it could backfire or have dark implications.

Most, if not all, starter pokémon are classified as critically endangered species, and encountering them in the wild is practically unheard of. The specific reasons for this status varies from example to example, but there is a factor shared by all traditional starter pokémon from Bulbasaur to Rowlet. This is the uneven sex ratio. The sex ratio most animals and pokémon (at least 90%) is one male to one female, whilst all of the standard starter pokémon (and a few of the nonstandard starters) have a ratio of seven males to one female. This makes a species dependent upon certain behavioral quirks and certain environments. The vulnerability to changes in the environment, in tandem with humanity either changing the environments or, all too often, actively hunting the starter pokémon either out of greed or hatred, meant that for these poor pokémon extinction seemed a certainty.

The starter program stopped that, saving the starter population and ensuring that our children, and indeed all trainers, have a way to defend themselves against the pokémon of the wild, those who are hostile until defeated by a trained pokémon and captured in a pokéball.

Author notes

I wanna thank Pokemonmalcolregion for help with names and DragonX500 for checking the spelling and grammar.

In universe the dex is in order save for this little intro, but in reality it is in no particular order, though I will try to do evo lines in order. You can frame it as someone reading the dex at random.

And in addition to pokémon, this dex will cover other things trainers should know. Things like gyms, professors, evil teams, items, things like that. My first planned chapter of that type is an examination of the joys and jenny's. But don't hold me to that.

The sidebar of the starters is my headcanon.

Alright, next chapter is Moskellito, and then I might do the joy/jenny chapter or a starter line. But again, don't hold me to anything.

Ok, see you next time.
