Hogwarts Again - The Next Generation
Chapter 6 - The Twins
The twins were identical, of course. They both had light ash blonde hair, which Dudley supposed could happen, a mix between blonde and soft brown. The only difference was their eyes. Ivy, the older twin, had brown eyes like her mother, and Daisy, the younger one, had blue eyes like her father. Right now, they were supposed to be sleeping in their room.
It was early morning, and Dudley heard something from the room in which the twins slept, so he decided to go and investigate. He put down the cup of tea he had been drinking, and went to their room. When he opened the door, he had a rather bad surprise.
"Whoa!"
When Dudley entered the twins' room, he expected them to be asleep. Not awake. Certainly not perched on top of the cabinet, trying to push each other to the ground. He immediately lifted them to the ground one by one.
"How the heck did you even get on top of the cabinet!" he exclaimed.
Ivy and Daisy only giggled, Ivy doing her best to rip off the curtain, and Daisy just looking at her father with wide eyes, nibbling on her fingers.
"What's going on here," came Violet's voice. She appeared in the doorway.
"Well, the girls somehow managed to get on top of the cabinet, and I have just brought them down, and I'm trying to figure out how they got there," said Dudley.
Violet looked at her children, a smile spreading across her face. "Probably magic."
Violet seemed very happy that day. Signs of magic became obvious over the next few years. Once, when Violet was showing a pretty vase to Ivy, she giggled and touched the vase. It immediately burst into a hundred pieces.
A few months later, when Daisy was playing with some old flowers, she broke the stem accidentally. She took it in her hands, tears in her eyes, and suddenly the flower and the stem were attached again. Dudley was fascinated that one could do magic without even using wands.
When they were four years old, Ivy 'transfigured' some salad into a chocolate cake. The same week, Daisy painted the wall black just by touching a black crayon to it. And so it went. If they didn't want to go to the bath, they would run fast. Oh so fast. Dudley could not imagine even running at that speed. Violet disapparated and apparated right next to the twins and carried them off to the bathroom.
Dudley remembered when he used to chase Harry when they were kids. Harry used to run fast, too. Was that natural ability or magic? He had heard that Harry was an excellent Quidditch player, so it was probably a natural ability. Though Dudley still felt guilty and disgusted with himself for bullying his cousin now.
Violet told many stories of the wizarding world to her children, making sure they learnt many things. She taught them basic things like math, spelling etc. - anything that they won't be learning when they go to Hogwarts. The twins liked the stories, and were always asking their mom for more.
Over the next few years, signs of magic kept popping up. The twins grew up to be mischievous little girls. They would put a spider in a dress Violet was wearing, they would prank each other, they would put salt in Dudley's coffee instead of sugar. Little, but uncomfortable things like that. Once, when they bought a cat, Daisy gave her hot milk, resulting in Ginger getting her tongue burnt.
When they turned nine, Violet prepared to make a birthday cake. Daisy and Ivy decided that they ought to be involved too, and went to the kitchen to help their mother. Of course, they didn't mean to add too much flour, or forget that the cake was in the microwave, or accidentally add too much salt.
In short, the twins were at least two handfuls each.
The day before they turned eleven, letters from Hogwarts came. The twins were ecstatic. They could finally get their wands, robes, books and go to Hogwarts!
"I hope I'm in Ravenclaw," said Ivy. "I've always wanted to be in Ravenclaw."
"Yeah," said Daisy. "That would be cool. We'll get to read all about the War that Mum won't tell us."
"She doesn't tell us because she says we'll learn about it at Hogwarts," replied Ivy. "I just want to see the library and the owlery and the secret passages."
"We'll be able to play so many pranks," said Daisy, her eyes gleaming. "Though not as legendary pranks as the Weasley twins, of course. Just harmless ones."
"Well, better safe than sorry."
On September first, the twins stood ready at Platform nine and three-quarters with their trunks and the wands and robes that they had purchased at Diagon Alley. Their common owl, Erwin, was perched in a cage beside their trunks.
"The train's coming, the train's coming," chanted both of them in unison.
"Can you calm down?" asked Violet.
"No, no we can't," answered Daisy. "We're ging to Hogwarts the first time, Mum."
"Yeah, you can't possibly expect us to calm down!" chimed Ivy.
The train came in at that moment and they squealed in excitement. When the train halted, Violet and Dudley helped them settle down in a compartment and said their goodbyes.
"Be good," said Violet.
"Not a chance," replied Ivy.
"Write soon and tell us about your sorting," said Dudley.
"We will," said Daisy. "Should we write two separate letters or is one enough?"
"Don't be very naughty. Don't get into detention too soon," Violet advised.
"We won't, Mum. We'll be good for at least a week. It'll be a frightful bore, but still."
The train started moving and the girls leapt on. They waved till it was out of sight and then settled down.
"It's going to be marvelous," said Daisy.
"Yeah, I hope we get into Ravenclaw," said Ivy for about the fifteenth time.
"We should change into our robes."
"Yeah."
And there they both sat, in their brand new robes, waiting eagerly for the train to stop, and to finally see Hogwarts with their own eyes.
