Take A Day Off
Tony pushed the helmet of his suit off and grimaced at the mess of his suit. It was totalled.
In all honesty, he was lucky he wasn't dead, but he wasn't going to voice that, particularly not when he could hear the familiar whirr of repulsors that meant Rhodey was inbound.
"Tones," Rhodey said, his own helmet flipping back to retract into the suit. "You're an idiot every day of the week. Why couldn't you have taken one day off? You knew I wasn't going to be around today."
Tony snorted. "I didn't ask the bad guys to pick today, Peaches, take it up with them."
"Oh I intend to," Rhodey said, casting a dark look towards the Quinjet, where Nat had the villain of the week bound and gagged and waiting for clearance to deliver him to S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters. "In the meantime, I can bollock you for being an idiot."
"Like that's anything new," Tony muttered. "Think you can help me out of this mess while you're bollocking me?"
Rhodey sighed but nodded. "Of course. Bloody pain in the ass, you're the reason I have grey hair."
"Honeybear—"
"Don't say it you little brat."
"You have no hair."
…
"You know, for someone that specifically came to tell him off, he certainly doesn't appear particularly chastised," Natasha commented softly.
Rhodey snorted, running a gentle hand through Tony's hair when he shifted. The genius was fast asleep in Rhodey's lap, one hand tucked between them, while the other was gripping onto Rhodey's shirt.
"I told him off for being an idiot, but it's nothing I haven't said before… and I'm sure I'll be repeating myself before the month is up."
"There's like, four days left in the month," Clint said, joining them on the sofas.
Rhodey shrugged. "I stand by my statement."
"It's good that he has you," Natasha said, leaning into Clint's side. "He needs someone to look after him."
Rhodey smiled and then looked down at his sleeping charge. "He'll always have me to look after him, and he knows it."
Tony seemed to agree, as he turned his face more into Rhodey and his grip tightened slightly on his t-shirt.
Rhodey smiled and turned his eyes back to the TV. He was probably going to be there for a while.
