Chapter 2 – The Vampires of Venice.

One Moment I was reaching out to touch the blue box, hand briefly making contact, the next I was stumbling forwards into a wall that was not there before. Pushing myself off the wall, I squinted my eyes towards the entrance of the different alley I now found myself in. It's looks brighter, too sunny for the UK.

I brushed the dirt off of my hands, looking around myself curiously, the dizziness that had struck me before now fading. If I'm not where I was…then where am I? I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to get some idea from the scents that now surrounded me.

I smell a lot of water, not fresh, a bit fishy…canals? Maybe? I opened my eyes. The air's definitely too fresh to be modern day anyhow.

Someone crashed into me, turning into the alley as I moved to step out, quickly grabbing me by the arms to stop me falling before asking shocked "Lina?"

Looking at the man now holding me, tilting my head backwards due to his height, I saw he had quite a boyish looking face with floppy brown hair and green eyes, looking down at me in surprise. Nice hair, not sure about the bowtie. I took a step back out of his arms as he let go, giving him a once over. Though, got to appreciate a man that confident.

"Yeah?" I replied finishing my perusal, the man looking a bit smug at my blatant checking him out. "How'd you know my name?"

He blinked at my question before slowly a look of realisation spread across his face.

"Ah, yes, well." He paused clapping his hands together once before interlacing his fingers. "Lina? Now this might sound a bit odd but, double checking," He looked down briefly before back up to stare at me intently. "Where were you before this?"

"Stafford." I replied bluntly before tilting my head adding. "2018, if that helps." Not a local judging by those clothes.

"Ah."

Keep my head tilted as I focused my hearing. Two heartbeats. Not human either then. I held up two of my fingers before speaking "Two questions. 1. Where -slash- when are we? And 2. Who are you, alien boy?"

"Venice, 1580." He replied immediately. "How'd you know I was an alien?" He cut me off as I moved to answer "Wait, two heartbeats gave it away, right? Forgot how good your hearing is for a second." He straightened his jacket before continuing. "I'm the Doctor. Nice to meet you. Though, I suppose I've already met you, this is just your first time meeting me-"

"Do you always ramble this much?" I interrupted crossing my arms.

He closed his mouth with a small click before stating "Yes." With a nod.

"Well, alrighty then." I clapped my hands together pointing at him with them "Can you tell me why I'm in 16th century Venice?"

"Ah, right yes." He cleared his throat. "You touched the TARDIS – the police box, right?" I nodded. "Right. So, when you did the ambient artron energy that you came into contact with, somehow kickstarted something inside of you. Causing you to be thrown through time and space, and because it was my box, it always leads you back to me."

"So, you're saying I get thrown around time against my will?" He nodded and I let out a snort. "Well, that's ironic."

He clicked his fingers with an "ah" of realisation pointing at me in mock accusation. "Now I get all those references you make! You never really tried to hide your species, I was just too dumb to consider it!"

I raised a brow as he berated himself. "You know what I am then?"

He paused before answering. "Found out, very recently actually. Considering all the years I've known you I probably should have figured it out sooner."

I let out a breath coming to a decision. "I'll stick with you then. Seems like there's nothing better to do in this situation." I looked at him in expectation. "So, what are we doing?"

"Looking for someone." He replied looking past me into the alley. "And as a matter of fact, I think we just found him."

He quickly took my hand, pulling me along with him as he led further into the alley and up to an older dark-skinned man questioning "Who are those girls?"

The man paused, turning to look at us. "I thought everyone knew about the Calvierri school."

"My first day here. It's okay. Parents do all sorts of things to get their children into good schools. They move house, they change religion." The Doctor paused briefly. "So why are you trying to get her out?"

"Something happens in there. Something magical, something evil. My own daughter didn't recognise me. And the girl who pushed me away, her face, like an animal." The man confided, scared.

The Doctor stepped forward to place his arm over the man's shoulder. "I think it's time I met this Signora Calvierri."

We made our way to the entrance to the Calvierri school, as the man who introduced himself as Guido distracted the guards so we could sneak past to the side gate, the Doctor producing a device to open it.

Holding it up at my inquisitive look, naming it "Sonic screwdriver."

We continued on in, making our way down a stone staircase and into a small room coming to a stop in front of an ornate mirror hung on a wall opposite three large wooden doors.

"Hello, handsome." He greeted, adjusting his bow tie in the mirror.

"Very confident, aren't you?" I teased. "Though you wouldn't be wrong."

He winked at me opening his mouth to reply before feminine voices cut in. "Who are you?"

We turned to see five girls, clothed in what looked like white underdresses of the time, standing behind us. I flicked my eyes to the mirror, seeing they showed no reflection, as the Doctor also did a double take, before focusing my complete attention on them, wrinkling my nose a bit. They sure don't smell as nice as they look.

"How are you doing that? I am loving it. You're like Houdini, only five slightly scary girls, and he was shorter. Will be shorter. I'm rambling."

"It seems you do that a lot." I noted.

The girls looked unimpressed speaking again in unison "I'll ask you again, signor, signora. Who are you?"

The Doctor reached into his inner pocket before pulling out small leather wallet. "Why don't you check this out?"

I turned my head to look at it "Is that a library card?"

He flipped it around to look at it himself "Library card. Of course, it's with- He's- I need a spare. Pale, creepy girls who don't like sunlight and can't be seen. Ha. Am I thinking what I think I'm thinking? But the city. Why shut down the city? Unless-"

"We've somehow walked onto the set of Dracula?" I cut him off, still watching the girls cautiously as they spoke again.

"Leave now, signor, signora, or we shall call for the Steward, if you are lucky."

The Doctor let out an "Oooo" as the girls shed their pretence, teeth turning into sharp needles, before advancing on us hissing.

"Tell me the whole plan." The Doctor demanded loudly before turning to me saying quieter "One day that will work." He turned back to the girls, grabbing my hand in his, pulling us towards the stairs. "Listen, I would love to stay here. This whole thing. I'm thrilled. Oh, this is Christmas."

We ran up the staircase, the Doctor still pulling on my hand, back the way we came, out to the canal and away from the so called "vampires".

Something just smelled a bit…fishy.

Night had now fallen, as we continued running along the canal side, until coming to a stop as we bumped into a young ginger woman running towards us with another man following shortly behind. The Doctor and redhead speaking in unison. "We just met some vampires." "We just saw a vampire."

They paused beaming at each other before the Doctor continued, squeezing my hand slightly "And creepy girls and everything."

"Vampires." She called back at him giddy, jumping on the spot before turning to me still smiling. "Lina! When did you get here?"

I went to answer before being cut off as the other man finally caught up "We think we just saw a vampire."

The Doctor brushed him off "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Amy was just telling me."

The woman now known as Amy continuing "Yeah, yeah. The Doctor actually went to their house. Also picked Lina up on the way by the looks of it."

"Oh. Right. Well." He muttered a bit put out, before turning to me. "Where'd you go in the first place? You just vanished."

I raised an eyebrow as the Doctor cut in wagging his finger at him. "Ah ah ah. Different Lina." He turned to me, gesturing at the other two. "Lina, meet Amy and Rory. They're currently travelling with us. She's Scottish and he's-" He paused thinking of something to say before finishing "Not."

"Thanks." Rory replied bluntly, Amy reaching over to pat him on the shoulder, before whispering something into his ear glancing my way, Rory nodding slowly.

I looked slowly between them all. "Okaaay."

"Okay." The Doctor nodded changing the subject. "So, first we need to get back in there somehow."

"What?" Rory questioned as Amy asked. "How do we do that?"

Rory continued "Back in where?"

The Doctor and I shared a look before he answered "Come and meet our new friend."

We had made our way to Guido's home and were now stood around a table, bent over the map of Venice he laid out before us, except for Rory who sat by himself on the other side.

"As you saw, there's no clear way in. The House of Calvierri is like a fortress." Guido told us before tracing his finger along the map continuing "But there's a tunnel underneath it, with a ladder and shaft that leads up into the house. I tried to get in once myself, but I hit a trapdoor."

"You need someone on the inside." Amy commented popping her head up.

The Doctor quickly replying "No."

"You don't even know what I was going to say." She protested.

"Er, that we pretend you're an applicant for the school to get you inside, and tonight you come down and open the trapdoor to let us in."

"Oh. So, you do know what I was going to say."

Rory burst out "Are you insane?"

Amy shooting back "We don't have another option."

Him answering back just as quickly "He said no, Amy. Listen to him."

"There is another option." Guido cut in, pointing to the collection of barrels behind Rory. Full of gunpowder by the smell. "I work at the Arsenale. We build the warships for the navy."

"Gunpowder." I commented as the Doctor took his own sniff.

He nodded at my confirmation. "Most people just nick stationery from where they work. Look, I have a thing about guns and huge quantities of explosive."

Guido banged his hands on the table "What do you suggest, then? We wait until they turn her into an animal?"

"I'll be there three, four hours, tops." Amy persuaded.

"No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It can't keep happening like this. This is how they go." The Doctor protested moving to take a seat by the window, before then continuing "But I have to know. We go together, say you're my daughter."

"What? Don't listen to him!" Rory protested. "If someone has to go why not Lina?"

"No!" The Doctor shouted as I bluntly stated my own "No."

"Why not?" Rory huffed at me.

I raised a brow moving to lean on the wall beside the Doctor, answering blandly "Because I don't want to."

"See? Good reason right there." The Doctor stated before swivelling back to Amy. "Moving on, so we say you're my daughter-"

"Your daughter? You look about nine."

"Brother, then."

"Too weird. Fiancé."

Rory cut in, the Doctor already shaking his head no shotting me a quick glance "I'm not having him run around telling people he's your fiancé."

"No. No, you're right." Amy agreed.

"Thank you."

"I mean, they've already seen the Doctor. You should do it."

"Me?" Rory asked.

I joined in "Yeah Rory, why don't you go?" Let's see how you like it.

"Yeah." Amy confirmed ruffling his hair. "You can be my brother."

"Why is him being your brother weird, but with me, it's okay?" He replied offended before raising his voice in disbelief. "This whole thing is mental. They're vampires, for God's sake."

"We hope." The Doctor said as I stated "They're not."

Amy turned to me questioning "So if they're not vampires?"

"Whatever they are they stink." I replied bluntly. "Like really pungent seafood."

The Doctor tilted his head at me taking in the information "Makes you wonder what could be so bad it doesn't actually mind us thinking it's a vampire."

After Rory had come back from taking Amy to be inducted into the Calvierri school, we began to make our way in the dark to the tunnels that Guido mentioned. Guido poling the gondola along, now wearing Rory's stag shirt as they had swapped tops, with a torch lighting our way along the canal.

"She'll be fine." The Doctor reassured Rory who had been worrying since he had got back.

"You can promise me that, can you?"

"We're here." Guido announced quietly after a while in the silence that followed.

The three of us made our way out of the gondola, through an iron gate and up a stone staircase, the Doctor having took the torch to light our way.

"Right. Okay, I'll go first. If anything happens to me, go back"

"What happened to make you decide to bring me along?" Rory continued, clarifying. "In the TARDIS I mean."

I turned to Rory in surprise. "This is your first time coming along?"

The Doctor sighed exasperated. "Now? You want to do this now?"

"I have a right to know." He defended. "I'm getting married in four hundred and thirty years. You pulled me from my stag night for this."

"You interrupted his stag do?" I asked incredulously.

"You were there too!" The Doctor shot back, pushing open the wooden door we came to.

"No, I wasn't!" I replied following him through with Rory to a pitch-black corridor.

"Not yet, but you will be." He corrected, stopping to turn to Rory "Let's just say that we survived a terrifying experience and she just needed that bit of extra assurance afterwards." He nodded to himself. "Yes, let's go with that. That's why I brought you here."

A strong wind blew through the hallway, extinguishing the flame on our torch and leaving us in total darkness.

"Well, that's our light now gone. Shall we get a move on?" I asked keeping my voice hushed, now irritated.

"Yes." The Doctor agreed equally annoyed. "Can we go and see the vampires now, please?"

We continued on, finally coming to the grate that led into the compound, the Doctor pushing it open and pulling himself up first, Rory and I boosting him up from below. He reached back down to pull me up, placing me on my feet and checking me over to make sure I was steady before reaching back down to pull Rory up last.

"Come on." The Doctor instructed before a final heave brought Rory fully up and into the courtyard. "There we are. Amy. Where's Amy? Amy?"

"I can't see a thing. Just as well I brought this, then." Rory commented before pulling out a small penlight.

The Doctor then preceded to pull out a long baton light from inside of his jacket, us both looking at him in disbelief. "Ultraviolet. Portable sunlight."

"How'd you fit that in there?" I exclaimed in a whisper as Rory remarked quietly "Yours is bigger than mine."

He winked at me before muttering "Let's not go there." to Rory, before beginning to walk to where a large trunk sat against the wall.

I turned my head sharply to the side as we walked before asking hushed "Did you hear that?

"What did you hear?" The Doctor asked me quietly stepping closer to me as we walked.

"I thought I heard someone yell." I whispered in reply, low enough just for the Doctor to hear in an effort not to alarm Rory "It's coming from further down."

He grabbed my hand in his free one, squeezing it, before picking up his pace pulling me along. "We best get a move on then."

He's a bit touchy this Doctor. My eyes drifted a little further down his figure. Not that I mind.

The Doctor stopped, letting go of my hand and passing me the baton, before reaching to open the chest, revealing the withered corpse that had been stuffed inside.

I wrinkled my nose at the smell before muttering "Delightful."

"What happened to them?" Rory asked the Doctor.

The Doctor reaching out to feel the corpse's hand "They've had all the moisture taken out of them."

"That's what vampires do, right? They drink your blood and replace it with their own."

"Yeah, except these people haven't just had their blood taken, but all the water in their entire bodies." The Doctor informed us.

"Why did they die?" Rory paused before continuing "Why aren't they like the girls in the school?"

"Maybe not everyone survives the process." The Doctor admitted, Rory throwing his hands up in frustration before storming a little bit away.

"You know what's dangerous about you? It's not that you make people take risks, it's that you make them want to impress you. You make it so they don't want to let you down. You have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves when you're around." He ranted, the Doctor looking away, before multiple female voices cut through.

"Who are you?" Six of the Calvierri girls asked as they appeared suddenly, stepping out from the archways lining the courtyard.

The Doctor took the baton back from me before waving it to ward them off, the girls backing away hissing as the UV light hit them, grabbing my hand as he shouted "We should run. Run."

We sprinted away from the girls and into the building before coming to a halt, our way blocked by who I assume was Rosanna, the steward and her son.

"Cab for Amy Pond?" The Doctor jokes as the girls catch up, blocking us in from both directions.

"This rescue plan, not exactly watertight, is it?" Rosanna mocked turning to her companions.

The Doctor brandished the UV light at the girls behind us again. Amy joining us calling out "Rory!" running towards him from a side corridor, another girl in tow. This must be Isabella.

"Amy!" Rory greeted in relief, before we all turned and ran back the way we came, Isabella leading the way, the Doctor following last as he was still warding off the girls with the light.

"They're not vampires." Amy shouted as we ran.

The Doctor turned beside me pointing the sonic screwdriver towards our pursuers the hatch clicking shut, locking behind us "What?"

"I saw them. I saw her. They're not vampires, they're aliens." She continued as we made our way down the staircase.

The Doctor chuckled "Classic."

"That's good news?" Rory asked before shouting incredulously "What is wrong with you people?"

The Doctor and I laughed, him grabbing my hand once more, ushering Rory ahead of us as we sprinted down the hallway "Come on, Rory. Move." The Doctor once again holding back the approaching aliens with the UV light. "Keep moving. Come on, guys."

We continue running, eventually leading back to the same wooden door three of us originally entered through, Isabella opening it for us to see it was now daylight, ushering us through as the church bells began ringing. Guido waiting ahead of us in his gondola.

We began making our way down the steps before hearing Isabella shriek, turning back around to see her recoiling as the sunlight touched her skin. She must've gotten further along in the process.

I ran to her, apologizing quickly "Sorry about this" before kneeling down slightly to heft her over my shoulders, her still shrieking in pain, shouting "Run!" as the others paused to gape at me, sprinting over to Guido.

I passed Isabella to her father, him quickly throwing a sheet over her as the others joined us, climbing into the gondola, turning back to see the aliens slam the door closed, hissing at the light.

I let out a breath as Guido began poling us away, Isabella having now quieted, before looking at the others "Two out of two. Not a bad rescue at all I'd say, so suck it fish lady."

A pause. The Doctor then laughed in delight slinging his arm around my shoulder to pull me towards him in a hug, us all joining in with the laughter. "Oh Lina, oh you do still surprise me."

Amy paused in her laughter exclaiming "I forgot how strong you are!" She dabbed at her eyes "and you're still wearing heels for god's sake!"

We continued to make our way along the canal, back to Guido's house, light laughter following in our wake.

Leaving behind the others at Guido's home, the Doctor and I - after some arguing that he should have at least some form of back up when speaking to a hostile alien - made our way back to the Calvierri school and into the throne room. The Doctor taking a seat on the throne as I perched on the arm, legs crossed.

The Doctor whistled calling out as Rosanna entered the room. "Long way from Saturnyne, aren't you, Sister of the Water?"

She paused holding up a hand "No, let me guess. The owner of the psychic paper." The Doctor confirmed splaying his hands out in a 'what can I say' gesture. "Then I take it you're a refugee, like me?"

He leaned back in the throne "I'll make you a deal. An answer for an answer." She agreed with a nod. "You're using a perception filter. It doesn't change your features, but manipulates the brainwaves of the person looking at you. But seeing one of you for the first time in, say, a mirror, the brain doesn't know what to fill the gap with, so leaves it blank, hence no reflection."

"Your question?"

"Why can we see your big teeth?"

Rosanna let out a laugh "Self-preservation over rides the mirage. The subconscious perceives the threat and tries to alert the conscious brain. My turn. Where are you from?"

"Gallifrey."

"You should be in a museum." She paused briefly before continuing "Or in a mausoleum."

"Why are you here?" He questioned, finally getting to the point.

For the first time since she entered Rosanna's composure broke a little "We ran from the Silence. Why are you here?"

She's scared. I tilted my head considering. But what of exactly?

"Wedding present." The Doctor answered quickly before enquiring "The Silence?"

She paused before answering "There were cracks. Some were tiny. Some were as big as the sky. Through some we saw worlds and people, and through others we saw Silence and the end of all things. We fled to an ocean like ours, and the crack snapped shut behind us. Saturnyne was lost."

"So, Earth is to become Saturnyne Mark Two?"

"And you can help me." She quickly responded hopefully, shooting me a quick glare when I scoffed before turning back to the Doctor smiling "We can build a new society here, as others have. What do you say? I need an answer, Doctor. A partnership. Any which way you choose."

The Doctor stood from the throne, grabbing my hand to pull me with him, interlacing our fingers as he walked towards Rosanna "I don't think that's such a good idea, do you? I'm a Time Lord. You're a big fish. Think of the children."

She turned, walking away from us calling out "Carlo?" before continuing as he entered "You're right. We're nothing alike. I will bend the heavens to save my race, while you philosophise."

"This ends today." The Doctor warned in a low voice. "I will tear down the House of Calvierri, stone by stone." He let go of my hand to brush away the hands that grabbed him. "Take your hands off me, Carlo."

With that said, he retook my hand, relacing our fingers as we walked confidently to the door, leaving the throne room and compound as a whole, without a single glance back.

Now back at Guido's house, Guido and Rory having switched their clothes back. The Doctor checked Amy's puncture wounds with his sonic screwdriver, the wound now healed.

"You're fine." He confirmed checking the sonic before saying "Open wide."

Amy opened her mouth confused before the Doctor popped in a mint humbug with a small 'mmmm' her then closing her mouth humming at the taste. The Doctor now moving to pace in front of the table where three of us sat, Isabella having been put to rest in her room away from the light until it finished passing out of her system.

"Argh. I need to think. Come on, brain. Think, think, think." He took a seat at the head of the table. "Think."

"If they're fish people, it explains why they hate the sun." Amy said, voice slurred from the sweet.

"And their smell." I mimed zipping my lips as the Doctor shot me a look, his hand coming up to cover Amy's mouth.

"Stop talking. Brain thinking. Hush."

Rory attempted "It's the school thing I don't understand." Before also having his mouth covered.

"Stop talking. Brain thinking. Hush."

"I say we take the fight to them." Guido started to say before the Doctor cut him off.

"Ah, ah, ah."

"What?" The Doctor nodded to Rory, Rory's hand now coming up to cover Guido's mouth as I smiled at them from my place next to Amy. What a scene they make.

"Ah." I focused my attention on the Doctor as he spoke "Her planet dies, so they flee through a crack in space and time and end up here. Then she closes off the city and, one by one, starts changing the people into creatures like her to start a new gene pool. Got it. But then what? They come from the sea. They can't survive for ever on land, so what's she going to do? Unless she's going to do something to the environment to make the city habitable. She said, I shall bend the heavens to save my race."

He moved his hands from their mouths to the top of their heads making them nod as he spoke "Bend the heavens. Bend the heavens. She's going to sink Venice."

"She's going to sink Venice?" Guido asked, Rory's hand having been removed too.

"And repopulate it with the girls she's transformed."

Rory scoffed "You can't repopulate somewhere with just women. You need blokes."

Amy cut in "She's got blokes."

"Where?" The Doctor asked.

"In the canal. She said to me there are ten thousand husbands waiting in the water."

"Only the male offspring survived the journey here." The Doctor said in realisation "She's got ten thousand children swimming around the canals, waiting for Mum to make them some compatible girlfriends. Urgh. I mean, I've been around a bit, but really that's, that's eugh."

I smirked before it dropped as a loud bang sounded through the ceiling, the Doctor commenting to Guido "The people upstairs are very noisy."

"There aren't any people upstairs."

"Do you know, I knew you were going to say that. Did anyone else know he was going to say that?" The Doctor asked looking between us all. I raised my hand slightly wiggling my fingers at him.

"Is it the vampires?" Rory asked in a whisper looking up at the ceiling.

"Like I said, they're not vampires. Fish from space."

"Is this really the time to be pedantic?" I yelled as the window shattered, the 'vampire' girls gathering around the doors and windows.

"Aren't we on the second floor?" Rory asked looking at the girls now floating outside of the window, the Doctor quickly stepping forward waving the UV light at them before using his sonic screwdriver to remove their perception filters, revealing their true appearance.

Guido stared in horror. "What's happened to them?"

The Doctor replying "There's nothing left of them. They've been fully converted. Blimey, fish from space have never been so buxom. Okay, move." Now directing us to run down the stairs to the exit.

"Give me the lamp." Guido called stopping in the doorway as we reached the bottom, the Doctor handing the light over.

I came up behind him, having detoured to quickly grab Isabella bundled up in her blankets, carrying her out. "What are you doing?"

"Stay away from the door, Doctor." He shouted.

"Oh no you don't." I quickly shoved Isabella into his arms "You've got a daughter to look after." snatching the light out of his before shoving him through the doorway closing and bolting it behind him.

The Doctor banged on the door. "No! Lina, what are you doing?!"

I made my way back up the stairs to Guido's apartment, warding of the girls that had now gotten inside with the light, making my way into the room where he kept the barrels of gunpower, grabbing a lit candle on the way past. "Perfect."

I backed myself up against the window facing the barrels on the opposite side of the room, as the girls swarmed in. "Right. That all of you?"

They hissed at me in reply, edging closer. I smiled before throwing the candle at the barrels behind them, quickly curling myself into a ball, before hurling myself backwards out of the window as the flame caught and they blew up, the edge of the fire catching my clothes a little bit as the window exploded outward.

Dropping to the ground heavily, finding it wasn't as hard as I was expecting. I looked down as it let out a groan quickly pushing myself up to sitting. I found that I had landed on the Doctor, him obviously having attempted to catch me as I fell. I blinked down at him. "Hello."

"Hello." He murmured back, hands coming up to settle on my waist, debris floating down around us.

A Scottish brogue cut in. "You two getting up any time soon?"

We looked over to see the others ducked into an alleyway for cover, Guido staring back at what was once his home, clutching the blankets that contained Isabella to him protectively.

"Yeah, we probably should." The Doctor replied as we pushed ourselves up, grabbing my hand once more, as we made our way over to them, thunder echoing across the sky as it began darkening with unnatural smoke.

"Rosanna's initiating the final phase." He continued, looking up at the sky.

"We need to stop her. Come on." Amy stated, taking a step towards the Doctor as he cut her off.

"No, no, no. Get back to the Tardis."

"You can't stop her on your own." She protested.

The Doctor then preceded to take a step closer to her, raising his voice "We don't discuss this. I tell you to do something, Amy, and you do it. Huh?"

She turned to me upset. "Lina! Say something."

I raised a brow gesturing to the ash now covering my clothes, some parts singed from the explosion. "I think I've done enough for today, don't you?"

Amy stormed off, the upset expression still on her face.

Rory paused turning to the Doctor to say "Thank you." Then headed to follow after her.

"You're welcome." He replied softly after a while, before turning to me.

"I'll go after them. Make sure they stay out of trouble." He gave me a small nod, at which I made my exit.

I caught up to Amy and Rory as they paused by the canal, looking up to watch the sky, noting how Rosanna's son stood across the way watching them, before they continued running not noticing him.

I paused for a moment, watching him smirk before diving into the canal, then continued in my pursuit after them, catching up once more as they turned into an alleyway.

Coming to a halt behind the two of them to see our way was now being blocked by the fish man. "Oh, I knew that was somehow going to bite us in the arse."

Rory picked up two candlesticks from nearby, holding them out towards him in a cross, calling out "Amy, run." That's not going to work Rory.

As if hearing my thought the fish man then casually knocked the candlesticks out of Rory's hands, then preceding to ignore him as he walked towards Amy and I.

Rory shouted after him "This way, you freak. No! This way, you big, stupid, great SpongeBob. The only thing I've seen uglier than you is" a slight pause "your Mum."

At this he paused turning to look at him. "Huh?"

"No." Rory backtracked.

"Did you just say something about Mummy?" Oh, so insulting his mum is the limit?

Rory picked up a broomstick and began jabbing it towards him before waving it around. Is he really making lightsaber sounds? I thought with an expression of disbelief.

The fish man watched him for a moment before drawing his very much real sword, doing the same. This is hardly fair. He then lunged towards Rory, who managed to quickly block with the broom, this repeated with Amy calling out "Careful!"

"Careful! Okay, hit him." Rory did so, rather anti-climatically with the bristles of the brush simply separating where they made contact. "This way. bring him this way. Rory!"

The broomstick now chopped up into little pieces, Rory tries to wrap him in the sheets hanging on the washing line above. Finally letting go and backing away towards Amy and I when it proves futile, commenting "Oh. Oh, you stink of fish."

Fish man advanced on him grunting "Well, I'm hardly going to smell of cheese and biscuits."

As Rory backed away into the area below where Amy and I waited on the stairs, he lost his footing, tripping to land flat on his back. Ooof. Fish man taking the chance to drop the pretence, transforming back into his true fish alien self, leaping on top of him letting out a roar.

Amy shouted down from where we stood "Hey, Mummy's boy!"

The alien looking up to where she held out her compact mirror in the sun, directing the light to hit him, him then instantly starting to burn before exploding, covering Rory with soot.

I wrinkled my nose, and along with Rory let out an "Ugh" of disgust.

Amy snapped her compact closed. "That was lucky. Why did you make the sign of the cross, you numpty?"

I snorted smiling at Amy as Rory made his way up to us "I know right?"

He began complaining throwing his arms up in exasperation "Oh. Oh, right, I'm being reviewed now, am I?"

To which Amy responded by pulling him into a passionate kiss, effectively shutting him up. Finally pulling away to state "Mmm. Now we go help the Doctor." Walking off.

He blinked rapidly after her. "Righty-ho." I snorted pushing him to go.

We ran through the city in the rain to the now open gates of Calvierri estate, quickly sprinting through and into the house, making our way to the throne room where the Doctor shouted at us. "Get out! I need to stabilise the storm!"

"We're not leaving you." Rory stated.

The Doctor turned from where he'd walked to the throne striding over to us "Right, so one minute it's all you make people a danger to themselves, and the next it's we're not leaving you. But if one of you gets squashed or blown up or eaten-"

The house shook harshly, cutting him off and knocking us off our feet to land on the floor as it continued to tremor. I put myself over Amy as she let out a yelp, trying to keep her steady as best I could.

"What was that?" Rory asked as the room stilled.

"Nothing. Bit of an earthquake." The Doctor answered as the rest of us got up, myself reaching a hand down to pull up Amy as she asked "An earthquake?"

"Manipulate the elements, it can trigger earthquakes. But don't worry about them."

"No?" Rory asked.

"No. Worry about the tidal waves caused by the earthquake." The Doctor then turned to look back at the throne, which was open showing the alien technology hidden in the backrest. "Right, Rosanna's throne is the control hub but she's locked the programme, so,"

He turned back to us instructing as we ran over to it "tear out every single wire and circuit in the throne. Go crazy. Hit it with a stick, anything. We need it to shut down and re-route control to the secondary hub, which I'm guessing will also be the generator."

As the Doctor then ran out of the room towards the bell tower, I started us off my reaching into the panel and ripping out a handful of wires, the others quickly moving to join in destroying the throne.

Once powered down, our work done, we quickly ran outside of the house and into the street, looking back up to see if we could spot the Doctor. Rory calling out pointing to the side of the tower the Doctor was scaling "There he is." Before cheering "Come on." As he made it to the very top.

We continued cheering him on from below, getting completely soaked by the rain. Until eventually the Doctor does something to the mechanism that causes the rain to stop, the clouds clearing away to reveal a bright blue sky, birds beginning to sing once again in the sunlight. Us all laughing in relief as we turn to hug each other, the people of Venice starting to cheer and applaud.

We were now making our way through the marketplace, people clearing up from the storm, the Inspector giving the Doctor a respectful bow, as we walked past him. The Doctor speaking as we walked "Now then, what about you two, eh? Next stop Leadworth Registry Office. Maybe I can give you away."

Rory replied in a somewhat defeated tone "It's fine. Drop me back where you found me. I'll just say you've-"

"Stay." Amy cut him off, stepping closer to him. "With us. Please. Just for a bit. I want you to stay."

He turned his head to look at the Doctor who affirmed smiling "Fine with me."

"Yeah?" Rory replied mood lifting "Yes, I would like that."

"Nice one." Amy responded giving him a quick kiss. "I will pop the kettle on. Hey, look at this. Got my spaceship, got my girl" She turned to sling an arm around my shoulder giving me a squeeze before letting go "got my boys. My work here is done." Flouncing off and into the TARDIS.

"Er, we are not her boys." Rory argued weakly.

The Doctor patted him on the shoulder "Yeah, we are."

"Yeah, we are."

I scrunched my nose at them in amusement "Yeah, you are." turning to walk into the TARDIS, placing my hand against the door as I was hit by a sudden dizzy spell, looking at my hand to see it fading. "Oh fuck." I stated bluntly as I once again fell into darkness.

And there's the first episode of this series done! Let me know how I did and if there's anything you think I could improve on.

All chapters aren't going to be updated as quickly as this, they just get uploaded when I finish them. Thanks for understanding!
