The hat was placed on her head, and it started to speak and the whole hall went silent. "Rosalie Potter, eh? Didn't think I'd ever see the day. Especially after your brother joined us. This is very interesting…."

Rosalie wanted to shift uncomfortably in the chair, but she knew better than that - she remained poker faced and didn't let any emotions out. "You know you would make a great Slytherin, you'd also make a great contribution to the Gryffindor house," the sorting hat paused, "I can't put you in Slytherin, that would be like signing over a death sentence." With those words itself Rose felt her eyes widen and she was actually quite grateful that no one else could hear what he was saying.

'What do you mean a death sentence?!' She practically screamed in her head at the hat.

"So no Slytherin," the hat finalised, completely ignoring what Rose had said to him, "let's see, this is a tough one. It's going to be a tough one, you'd well in all of them it's just where could we reach your full potential. I mean Gryffindor you would be with your brother, but Ravenclaw your knowledge would flourish" Rose felt that she had been sat on this stool for what felt like forever, she quickly glanced over towards Harry who was looking confused with why it was taking so long to be sorted, when he realised that Rose was staring at him he gave her a smile and mouthed 'are you okay?' She felt such a warmth fill her body then. She quickly zoned back to what the sorting hat was saying, "but then again with Hufflepuff you'd be happy because you wouldn't be drawing attention to yourself…"

'For goodness sake just put me in Gryffindor' Rose thought angrily wanting to get this sorting finished. She was starting to hear muttering from the hall and students were asking why it was taking so long.

"Very well," the sorting hat said and it then bellowed to the Great Hall, "Gryffindor!" The Gryffindor table erupted in applause and cheers and Professor McGonagall removed the sorting hat and Rose made her way down to the table. Angelina and Katie waved Rose down towards them for her to sit with them,

"We saved you a seat," Katie told her excitedly. Rose positioned herself in between the girls and smiled politely at them - Rose mentally sighed - refusing to let any emotion come through but kept her poker face smile on display - she was now the new shiny toy, and this dinner was going to be exhausting.

As Rose predicted, she was the new shiny toy, and everyone wanted to talk to her. She politely smiled at everyone and after a few hours or so, she heard Percy's voice above everyone else's, "alright, knock it off. Let her eat in peace," Rose looked at Percy and gave him an appreciate smile and she noticed his ears turning a shade of pink. She chuckled to herself as this is exactly what the twins did, Ron not so much as usually his whole face would turn red. She scanned down the table and saw Fred deep in conversation with Lee whispering in his ear a few seats down, Fred looked up and saw Rose smiling at him and he winked at her in return. George was in conversation opposite Fred talking to Ron and Harry with his back towards Rose.

"Come on," Angelina snapped Rose out of her thoughts, "let's show you the common room before the first years follow."

-x-x-

Nothing that eventful happened over the last few days, Rose had met Alicia Spinnet and it turned out that her, Angelina and Katie Bell were all on the quidditch team along with Fred and George. Rose really liked the girls and she was relieved that she was sharing a dorm with them. It turned out that Angelina had a thing going with Lee, though they both denied that they fancied each other - but it was very clear that they did. Days seemed to roll into one at the moment, though she tried to hide the overwhelming sensation of not really knowing what on earth was going on around the school or sometimes what the teachers were saying. She often found herself looking for Hermonie in the library asking where questions for answers that she felt she should have known by now.

She was sat outside by the lake leaning against one of three trees. She had snuck some food out of the great hall, luckily no one had noticed because her usual group hadn't come back from Quidditch practice, Hermonie was in the library where Rose had left her and last time she checked Ron was goofing around with Neville in the common room.

Rose was tearing up the roll she had picked up from the hall in her hands where she heard footsteps walking towards her. She glanced over in the direction they were coming from and saw what a shabby looking black dog.

'Must be a stray.' She thought looking it over, 'poor thing looks hungry.'

"Hey," Rose said encouragingly, "come on boy." She said holding out some food from her hands encouraging the dog over.

The dog instantly made its way over to Rose, eating the food quickly out of her hands. She smiled softly to the dog, "you really were hungry weren't you boy," the dog wagged its tail as Rose scratched behind its ear once it had finished eating the food she had offered. She went into her bag and bought out more food to it and let it eat the food, after all she could easily go back to the Great Hall later and take more food. She groaned out loud at the thought of going back which made the dog look at her inquisitively and appeared to be waiting for her to say something. "I'm not groaning at you," Rose told the dog slowly, "go back to eating." She gestured at the food she had put down for him.

'Weird' Rose thought to herself, but then again everything was weird now. When the dog finished eating, he sat there by Rose resting his head on his lap. Rose obliged this by then stroking him. Something familiar stood out for her about this dog, it reminded her of something in the past – but she couldn't quite figure it out. She closed her eyes and desperately tried searching her brain for a past memory.

'Come on, I know you're there.' She kept thinking to herself, what is it with this dog that reminded her of her past. That's when it hit her, the memory flashed at her so quickly she couldn't even stop it from being right there.

She was sat on the floor with a black shaggy dog playing with her, he was sniffing and licking her face and wagging his tail every time she climbed on him. She was cuddling the dog and laughing hysterically – why was she laughing so much. "Padfoot," Rose heard the woman's voice say laughing, and she looked up to see a red head woman sat on the sofa behind her, she was pregnant – heavily pregnant, "If you stop Rose from going to sleep tonight. I'm coming after you, I need all the sleep I can get."

"Well, it's time to say goodnight," another guy said walking into the room, Rose looked at him and saw the dark black hair just like Harry's – in fact he looked just like Harry, "come on my darling Rosie," the guy said picking her up. "Say goodnight to Padfoot, and mummy."

A bark from the dog beside her disrupted her from her memory and Rose shot back to reality – she could feel the pain radiating from her chest from that memory. How had she forgotten it, ever since meeting Harry little snippets of the past came into her mind, but she never paid too much attention to it – they were never in such detail like that before. How old would she have been, three at best?

She looked at the dog who kept nudging her hand, she had clearly stopped stroking the dog and Rose shook her head to herself and continued stroking the dog. "You know," she began, "you remind me of an old pet that I had when I was little, I think I'm going to name you Paddy." This appeared to get the dog's attention because he moved to look at her – just like he understood what she had said. "Do you like that name?" Rose asked scratching behind his ear again, "I don't even know why I'm talking to you, its not like you can even understand me." She paused, and then continued to talk, "so now I know your name, I really should tell you mine. It's Rose Potter,"

"Rose!" the sound of Fred calling her from the distance, Rose looked in the distance and saw him walking towards her in his Quidditch uniform, she then turned her attention back towards the dog – but he was gone. Rose shook her head, wondering if she had imagined the whole thing and stood up.

"How did you know I was here?" She shouted towards him, grabbing her bag, and walking over to his direction.

"You've been coming out here for the last few days," Fred told her, "I notice all," he winked at her. He looked Rose up and down and his face fell slightly, "what's wrong?"

Rose was taken aback by this, "nothing," she told him, trying to compose her face into something more neutral.

"Don't do that to me Rosie," Fred told her – she couldn't help but smile at Fred calling her Rosie, this had become a term of endearment – especially since when they were all alone, she had come into the habit of calling them Freddie and Georgie, "don't try and cover up what's wrong, otherwise I'm going to tell George." Fred stepped closer to her, placing his hand on her shoulder, "come on talk to me." Rose looked up at Fred examining him more closely, instead of his mischievous grin that was used to seeing she saw that he was filled with concern.

Rose moved closer to Fred, wrapping her arms around him as tightly as she could. This must have surprised Fred as he stood still for a second or two before letting his broom fall to the floor and wrapping his arms around her. "You know what would really cheer me up?" she said to Fred looking up and smirking at him, "please can we pull a prank tonight on Filtch? Me, you and Georgie?" This suggestion made Fred's face light up.

"Only if you tell me and George what's wrong after," Fred responded and Rose nodded, "pinky promise?" he asked, holding out his pinky – Rose smiled at him, her pinky meeting his.

"Promise."

Fred turned back to his broom picked it up and wrapped his arms around Rose's shoulder, "so what prank does my lady want to do?"

Rose, George and Fred came running into the common room - she was being pulled along by the twins each one holding one of her hands. Rose had been laughing so much that tears were running down her face, but as they made their way further into the common room she stopped laughing and tried to be as quiet as possible. They had come in past curfew and no one appeared to be in the common room.

"We will make a Weasley out of you yet," George said to her making his way to one of the sofas by the fireplace and flopping himself down on it, "isn't that right Fred."

"I think so George!" Fred confirmed, still holding onto Rose's hand and guiding her to the chairs by George and only letting go of it as he sat on the other end of the sofa. Rose sat herself in between the boys still smiling and using her fingers to comb her hair behind her ears.

"Also," Rose said smirking at them, "look what I managed to get out of Filtch's office," she told them taking out a small bottle of fire whiskey out of her robes.

"Wicked," the boys said in unison and Rose unscrewed the lid, smelt the contents and took a sip, offering the bottle to Fred who took a swig and then offering it to George.

"You," Fred told her, "are dangerous woman," Fred laughed, "you're positively leading us astray."

"Couldn't agree with you more Fred," George chimed in, passing the bottle back to Rose. "We were angels before you came into the picture."

"Pure image of innocence."

Rose rolled her eyes, taking another swig of the fire whiskey, "oh please. You two," she pointed between them, "are anything but innocent. It's you that's leading me astray."

"Lies," Fred countered

"Prove it!" George countered.

"Fine," Rose said grinning, "tomorrow lets get everyone together and play truth or dare."

"Truth or dare?" George and Fred asked at the same time,

"never heard of it," Fred finalized.

"Well, its a fun muggle game where you have to do dares, or tell the truth about a secret." Rose said, "even idiots couldn't get it wrong." She then winked at them and smiled.

George gasped at her, "Freddie, I think she's implying that we are idiots."

Fred mocked a fake hurt, "I think she is too." Fred and George inched closer to her, "you know there's only one way to fix this."

"I agree," George said and before Rose could even move the twins had pinned her down and were tickling her.

"Stop it," Rose giggled, trying to fidget her way out of this hold that they had and ended up bringing them down to the floor with her, "stop!" she continued laughing.

"I don't think we should," George said, "What do you think?" he looked at his twin laughing

"Nah, not yet." Fred agreed

"Please!" Rose continued to say through laughter, trying to catch her breath and after a few moments they both stopped. She opened her eyes and was surprised to see how close George and Fred were to her now, they were each straddled over one leg, their thighs pressing against hers and they were leaning over her pinning one arm down with one hand as their other hand now rested on the side of her body. She could feel their warm breath on her face, her eyes scanning between Fred and George and she could feel her heart beating in her ears now as it was going so fast. She bit her lip and the twin's eyes glazed over - looking at her completely different. She realised right there and then she wanted to kiss them, both of them. She watched as the twins looked at each other and she swore that they were telepathically communicating with each other because next minute she knew Fred's face was inching closer to hers. She could feel nerves surrounding her, but before he could get any closer they were interrupted by a loud bang that drew their attention to one of the desks and they saw Crookshanks.

The moment, it was gone and she felt the twins move their bodies off her and extended their hands to help her up once they were stood up.

"I should go to bed," Rose said quickly embracing the twins at the same time and rushing up the stairs to her dormitory.

"Oh, Rosie," Fred called after her, she quickly turned round and looked down the stairs at him, "we haven't forgotten about earlier."

"Yeah," George said stepping towards his brother so she could see him, "we wanna know tomorrow what happened."

Rose nodded and made her way back into the room, everyone was asleep and she could hear Angelina snoring. She quickly changed into her pjs and got into bed and laid there thinking about what had just happened. She shook her head, she must have imagined that - there was no way something was going to happen. She closed her eyes, trying to clear her mind when the Sorting Hat's words came running through her mind "That would be like signing a death sentence."

Eventually Rose managed to fall asleep.
