Rose had made it back to the common room ten or so minutes after the Qudditch game had started, she had stopped being sick two hours ago and Madam Pomfrey kept carried out extra observations just to be precautious. Rose would be lying if she said she wasn't pleased that the common room was empty, as that morning progressed more and more flashbacks occurred. At one point, she swore she had mentioned about having little ginger haired babies with George. She wasn't mad at George or Fred, but they definitely need to put on a warning disclaimer if they ever plan on selling that in their future joke shop. Rose debated on going to the Quidditch match but decided against it – right now all she needed was her bed.
Rose woke up with a start and it was Angelina shaking her, "Good you're up," Angelina said, "Harry's in the hospital wing," Rose's eyes widened, "dementors came onto the pitch, he's okay just shaken up. I'll walk you down."
Rose and Angelina made their way to the hospital wing and Rose thought it would be probably one of the most awkward experiences of her life, but it was actually quite pleasant – if you can say rushing down to the hospital wing to see your hospitalised brother a pleasant journey, "oh and we haven't forgotten about last night," Angelina smiled, "It's Wood's turn next to try it out." Angelina winked and they entered the wing.
"He looks a bit peaky," Rose heard Ron say as she approaches the group as she positioned herself next to Hermonie so she could be closest to Harry,
"Peaky!" George said to Ron, "what do you expect, he fell from like a 100 feet,"
"Yeah Ron, lets walk you off the side of the Astronomy tower and see how well you look." Fred chimed in.
"Probably a right sight better than what he normally does," Harry mumbled up at them and Rose sighed a relief.
"How are you feeling?" Rose asked Harry, helping him sit up and passing over his glasses.
"You gave us a right scare there mate," Fred said,
"What happened?" Harry asked looking at the group
"Well, you fell off your broom," Ron said moving away from the bed to grab something.
"Erm no one blames you Harry," Hermonie started, looking at the group cautiously, "the dementors aren't allowed in the grounds and Dumbledore is furious."
"And Harry, one more thing." Ron now appeared holding what looked like a bunch of twigs, Rose looked at it again and grimaced, "your broom, when you fell it kinda went into the Whomping Willow."
Rose watched as Harry's face fell and she held his hand and gave him a reassuring squeeze. Harry smiled back at her faintly, and trying to get the attention off her, he turned to Rose and asked, "How are you feeling now?"
Rose saw in her peripheral vision the twins shifting slightly uncomfortably on the spot, "I finally stopped puking," Rose said, trying to hide the embarrassing flashback of her puking all over Harry, "but I am gonna have to go back to the common room, I'm exhausted. I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
Harry nodded, "can I chat to you tomorrow morning before breakfast?"
Rose nodded, "meet me at 8?" Harry nodded and Rose said goodbye to everyone and made her way out of the hospital wing. As she was approaching the exit she heard two pairs of feet running up behind to catch up with her, she could easily tell it was George and Fred.
"Look, Rose.." George started,
"We are .." Fred added in
"really sorry," they both finished the sentence.
Rose could feel her mind racing, she didnt know what she was expecting, she wasn't sure if George and Fred would just ignore her and pretend that it never happened - but she wasn't expecting them to apologise. Actually she kinda did and she wasn't fooling anyone by saying she wasn't expecting them to not apologise - she knew them better than that.
"Can we just maybe forget about it?" Rose said after a few moments, looking between the twins. "However, I will say one thing - you need to work on a few tweaks because it made me sick and I suggest putting a disclaimer on it warning people." Rose smiled at them, "Warning: may cause users making a total idiot of themselves." Rose was relieved when Fred and George seemed a bit more at ease around her now, Fred did seem a bit tetchy and bit down but Rose just shrugged it down to them losing the Quidditch game.
"Hey Fred, George," Rose said, "You know the Hogsmeade weekend coming up?"
"You mean the one everyone is talking about?" Fred asking,
"Nah, haven't heard of it love." George grinned down at her and Rose playfully scowled at him and stuck her tongue out. "See, last time I saw that tongue, I remember it trying to shove its way down my throat." George winked at her laughing and Rose felt Fred tense up slightly but only for a second or two and quickly recovered.
"Well," Rose said and pondered for a moment, "is there anyway we can sneak Harry there without anyone knowing?"
The twins quickly looked between each other and Fred slowly asked, "and you think we know a way?"
Rose scoffed, "oh please, if anyone knows a way in and out of this place. It's my Weasley boys."
Fred, Rose and George made it to the common room and then positioned themselves on some chairs in the common room away from everyone else, "so come on," Rose pipped up, "I have to ask, how much of a idiot was I last night?" Fred shifting and visibly tensing up, "what's wrong?" Rose turned her attention to Fred who quickly mumbled nothing, stood up and walked up to his dormitory.
The next morning, Rose met Harry downstairs in the common room. She smiled at him brightly and they both asked in unison, "how are you feeling?" This cause Rose and Harry to both smile more at each other and express a chuckle, "much better," Rose told him, "And you?"
"Much." Harry told her, he took hold of her arm and bought her in closer to him as he spoke, "I've been speaking to Professor Lupin and he knew our parents," he spoke much quieter to stop people anyone from overhearing if they came by.
"You're joking?" Rose asked,
Harry shook his head and took out his photo album that he had tucked away at the side of body, "look at this," Harry told her, opening it up. Rose looked at the photo, it was a photo of their parents on their wedding day. James and Lily were beaming at each other and then to the camera smiling and waving, "this is professor Lupin," Harry pointed to a much younger version of Lupin, his hair messy, he appeared a bit more carefree and then that's when Rose spotted it – she was maybe a year or so old and she was in the arms of professor Lupin. They were beaming at each other, and Rose watched as she wrapped her arms around Lupin. Rose wasn't sure on what emotions she was feeling right now, was it a mixture of hurt and anger – she had asked professor Lupin if she had known him previously and he denied it.
She wanted to cry, Rose furiously blinked away any approaching tears and drew her attention to the man stood the other side of James, "is that -?" Rose couldn't quite finish the sentence as she was in so much shock and she really hoped she wasn't seeing who she was seeing.
"Sirius Black," Harry said answering the question, "it turns out they were friends." Harry paused for a moment, "I'm seeing professor Lupin this morning, I want you to come with me." Rose nodded blinking away more tears furiously, she couldn't find her voice – she just didn't know what to say anymore.
Rose walked down with Harry to breakfast, and she ate in silence, trying to piece together everything that was going on. She needed to piece together everything, luckily for her there wasn't that many people in the hall as it was quite early on a Saturday and most students enjoyed trying to catch up on sleep. Rose's attention soon was taken elsewhere when she heard the unmistakable voice of Pansy Parkinson, "Oh look its Looney Little Lovegood," she practically singed, stood over a blonde girl who sat on the Ravenclaw table, "how's little ole looney doing?" Pansy was laughing, touching the blonde girls hair and making the other Slytherin girls laughing. The blonde girl didn't say anything and looked like she was just trying to pretend that Pansy and her friends weren't there, Rose watched as the blonde girl looked at others on her table hoping that someone would step in, but they just turned their backs to her.
Rose could just about hear the blonde girl whisper, "please leave me alone," and she had such an airy affect to her voice.
Pansy started laughing, "did you hear that? She wants us to leave her alone! Well Looney, I don't really want to, did you ever find out where your stuff went to?" Pansy was laughing again and the girls behind her started laughing too.
"That was soo funny!" Rose heard one of the girls saying in between laughs, "I cant believe you hid her books all around the grounds!"
Rose looked around the hall and saw that other students were watching, but the moment Pansy or one of her friends looked in their direction they would turn away pretending that they hadn't seen anything. Rose could feel her blood boiling and her anger rising, she quickly got up from the table – so quickly that she ended up knocking over her cup causing a loud thud which made people turn their attention to her. She could hear muttering getting louder and louder as she approached closer to the Ravenclaw table and Rose watched as one of Pansy's friends nudged her whispering something and pointing in your direction.
"Oh look," Pansy shouted gleefully, "if it isn't the other Potter! You know the less famous one." Pansy started laughing, "you know the one who no one cared that she was lost." Pansy and her group of friends continued laughing. "Not going to say anything Potter?" She asked smirking as she Rose stood in front of her.
"Apologise!" Rose said, nodding towards the blonde girl.
"Oh what, and you're going to make me?" Pansy laughed and her friends quickly copying.
"Probably to be fair," Rose said, "you know what they say about dogs, all you need to do is train them and they will do anything. Isn't that right Pug – I mean Pansy."
Rose watched Pany's face drop and the girls behind snigger quietly, she had picked up within the first few days at school that Pansy was quite self-conscious, and Rose knew the best way to get a bully to stop was to use their insecurities. Rose heard another scoff from the Slytherin table and saw Draco, Crabbe and Goyle sniggering at her comment – this making Pansy turn a bright shade of red. "What did you just call me?" She asked from seethed teeth.
"Well," Rose said shrugging, "I thought your name was Pansy the pug Parkinson, did I get that wrong?" Rose faked a shocked expression, "I'm sooooo sorry," Rose added in copying the girl from earlier who was sucking up to Pansy, "it's just you know that's what everyone called you to me, so I just assumed."
This caused more sniggers around the great hall and Rose could see Pansy turning more and more red, and at this point Rose had seen Ron, Fred, George, Hermonie and Percy and another girl holding Percy's hand coming into the great hall in her peripheral vision. Pansy grunted angrily, "you're going to pay for this!" she screamed squaring up to her.
Rose quickly shoved Pansy away from her, and Pany's friends pushed Pansy back towards Rose. Once Pansy had recovered her balance she quickly moved her hand to slap Rose around her face but Rose quickly grabbed her wrist and stopped it. "Don't be so dramatic Pugsy!" Rose said to her, shoving her away and this time it ended up with Pansy falling to the floor.
Before anyone could do anything, Percy and what appeared to be his girlfriend came running over to them, Rose could hear "Prefects coming through!" from Percy but it was too late, she felt a hand grab her shoulder and when she looked down at Pansy she was smirking.
"Potter," came a smooth voice who she knew could only belong to one person. "What is the meaning of this?" Professor Snape asked as Rose turned around to face him.
"Sir," Pansy said quickly before Rose could say anything, "she attacked me!"
"I didn't attack –" Rose was cut off by Professor Snape talking,
"Did you or did you not push her?" Professor Snape asked
"I did, but-" Rose was cut off again,
"Detention, tonight. My office." Snape told her, "Do you understand Potter?"
Rose nodded, "yes sir," Rose said.
Snape walked off and next thing she knew she had Harry by her side, "come on let's go before he comes back and realises, he didn't deduct any points from Gryffindor."
Rose let Harry lead her out of the hall after she glared down at Pansy once more, "remember what I said," Rose quickly told her, and she turned her attention away from Pansy. Fred and George were looking pretty impressed by her, and Rose was relieved to see Fred looking a bit more friendly this morning after he stormed out of the common room last night.
Harry and Rose met Professor Lupin who was waiting outside, "Ah Harry," Professor Lupin greeted, "and Rose!" He beamed at them both, though Rose could see through his smile there was a tinge of guilt, "shall we?"
Rose walked beside Professor Lupin whilst Harry walked the other side, Rose noticed that he was using a walking stick to support him and he was looking quite pale, more pale than usual. "First of all, I would like to address the elephant in the room," Professor Lupin addressed his attention to Rose, "I just wanted to apologise to you, I know that on the train I said I didn't recognise you or know you. I panicked; you are just so much like your mother that I panicked. I would like to ask you to come join me for tea tonight so that I can talk to you more about your parents if you like?"
Rose groaned, "Sorry Professor Lupin I can't, I have detention tonight with Professor Snape. Could we tomorrow?"
Professor Lupin smirked, "maybe you are more like your father now that I think of it. Next Monday?" Professor Lupin asked and Rose nodded, "fantastic!"
"Harry," Professor Lupin turned his attention to him, "I'm sorry to hear about your broom. Is there no chance of fixing it?"
"No," Harry said quietly as they continued walking, "professor why do the dementors affect me so? More than anyone else."
"Listen the dementors are one of the foulest creatures to walk the earth, they feed on every good feeling, every happy memory until that person has nothing left. You are not weak Harry."
"I'm scared professor," Harry told him,
"I would think you were a fool if you told me, you weren't," Professor Lupin said, stopping and resting against a tree.
"You could teach me," Harry told him, "You could teach both of us, you made that dementor leave on the train."
"I can teach you both after the holidays, but for now I need to rest."
Rose had said goodbye to Harry and Lupin before Harry, and she left those two to talk. She wanted to go check Paddie, she had been carrying her breakfast food all morning. She was making her way back to her usual spot when she bumped into Draco Malfoy who was surprisingly on his own. "Potter," he said with less snarl in his voice from when he usually addressed her brother, "that was some show you and Parkinson put on at breakfast." He smirked and Rose would have bet money on that if his arm wasn't in a sling, he would have folded his arms to go alongside that smirk.
"What can I say Draco, tomorrow I'm going to be wrestling with Pansy in my bikini covered in jello," she laughed at him, and Draco let out a small amused chuckle but quickly recovered his laugh and put on a small scowl.
"I mean you're already the talk of the school," Draco said casually, "why not!?"
Rose let out a fake gasp, "is the Slytherin Prince showing humour?" She smirked at him and gave him a tiny nudge on his good arm, "so what happened to your arm? Did you look at another girl for too long and Pansy attack you?"
Draco rolled his eyes, "it was that giant oaf's fault, Hagrid! I almost lost my bloody arm! Letting dangerous animals loose! That hippogriff could have killed me!"
Rose let out a small chuckle, "I think you're being a bit dramatic," Rose put her fingers together to signal a small amount between them, "you know a teeny tiny bit," she finished signalling and gave him a small smile.
Draco looked offended but quickly recovered, "shouldn't you be looking for your brother to hide behind his shadow and fame?" He snarled at her,
"Wow Draco don't pull any punches," Rose said, "clearly I've touched a nerve, and, on that note, I hope you feel better soon Draco! I would hate for Gryffindor to beat the Slytherins without you there!" She winked at him and walked away from him.
Rose didn't turn back to look at Draco, even when she heard him mumble 'goodbye Rose,' she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of him realising that she had heard him. Rose didn't fancy Draco, but she was intrigued by him and she really wanted to see why he had such a complex – plus as she told Harry, if he was really that evil it was important to try and understand him a bit better.
Rose finally made it to her usual spot and sat down looking out across the lake and within minutes of sitting down she heard the usual footsteps of Paddie, "Hello Paddie," Rose fussed over the dog and gave him his usual behind the ear scratches. "Look what I bought you!" Rose took the food out of her bag and laid it out on the floor for Paddie and he quickly started eating. "You would not believe the last few days,"
Rose had spent the last hour sat under the tree telling Paddie all about the love potion incident and how she ended up in the hospital wing, how Harry had fallen off his broom during Quidditch, how she had defended the Lovegood girl against Pansy and how Professor Lupin knew her parents and as per usual the dog sat there listening intently with his head on her lap and wagging his tail when Rose gave him fusses. "You know Paddie, I just can't get my head around the fact that Sirius Black knew my parents. What turns a person so much that they turn against their friends?" Rose sighed, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath – she was not going to burst into tears, not now.
X-x-x-
Rose had left Paddie and was now in the common room trying to catch up on her homework before her detention with Professor Snape. She had hoped that positioning herself into the corner would have stopped others from approaching her or chatting to her, but she found as more and more Gryffindors came back into the common room they would congratulate her, first years would give her thumbs up and at one point Seamus had told her how disappointed he was for missing out on her attacking Pansy Parkinson and Neville had asked if she had really punched her so hard that she went flying to the other side of the Great Hall.
Rose now just refused to look up when people came into the common room and just pretended that no one else was around. Well, she was trying to, but suddenly she saw chairs either side of her be pulled backwards and the Weasley twins sat either side of her.
"Rosie," Fred started, "this morning was awesome!"
"Yeah," George said, "you are literally the talk of everyone today!"
Rose muttered a thanks and continued working on her homework, "hey Rose," Fred said now moving away the parchment she had been writing on and getting her attention, she was now looking at him, "after your detention, can we chat? Me and George have been talking about last night and I want to apologise and chat with you."
"Yeah, sure" Rose said, reaching out trying to get her parchment back, "do you want me to meet you in the common room?"
Fred moved the parchment further away, "no its okay, me and Gred will meet you after detention."
"Isn't that after curfew?" Fred nodded, "wont that get us in trouble if we get caught?"
"That's the beauty of it," George pipped up placing his hands on Rose's shoulder and bringing his lips down to her ear, "its if we get caught." George whispered.
