"Are you alright?" Loki finally asked me as he looked at me.
"I am. I'm just cold." I admitted and he nodded. He pulled me to him and kissed the side of my forehead as I shivered. He chuckled as I looked up at him. I was thinking about what the Frost Giant had told me... I was confused.
"Are you ok?" I asked him and he chuckled.
"I am. I was worried about you, love." he said and I nodded. He carefully pressed his lips to mine, and I felt the warmth of them... it was so different from when he was a frost giant and his lightest touch was freezing cold. I pulled away and looked at him. He furrowed his brows when he could tell that I was thinking about something.
"What is it?" he asked me and I debated on asking him, but I wanted to know.
"What were you?" I asked him as he ran his hands up and down his arms. He sighed and looked at me. I could tell that he was hoping to put his off for a bit, but I wanted to know if he would even tell me the truth.
"I am Jotun." he said and I nodded. He was telling the truth so far.
"The others didn't react to you being that way... are they used to it?" I asked him and he chuckled as he absently ran his hands over my arms.
"Um, no, they couldn't see that. I can glamour people to seeing what I want them to see. I wanted them to see me like they are used to seeing me. I only showed you the real me." he said and I turned to face him a little more. He was looking down at me with blue eyes, but I almost wasn't sure what to believe anymore.
"Why me?" I asked him and he chuckled.
"You seem to not care about what people look like. I also was able to sneak in easier if I looked like that." he said and I nodded.
"How long have you known you were one of them?" I asked him and he gave a sad smile. I could tell that he wasn't comfortable with this being part of him.
"I was in the vault when I was supposed to and I picked up an artifact that Father had gotten from them. I turned instantly and Father found me. He had to tell me the truth. He had adopted me when he found me alone." he said and I nodded at him as I shivered again.
"I have had being adopted held over me since it's not a well kept secret. You are a mortal and only have to deal with things for so long... I don't know that you would understand of it." he said and I nodded. He had used mortal again like it was a bad thing... maybe I had just bought into his charms or something that came with being a Jotun.
"I am adopted... I understand... people can be cruel." I said and he looked at me surprised.
"You are adopted?" he asked me surprised and I nodded.
"I am, and I know nothing of my real parents... but I am ok with that." I nodded as he kissed my temple again. I felt another violent shiver race through me as he ran his hands over my arms.
"Let's get you in front of a fire. Go change." he said and I nodded as he helped me out. I changed into a dry dress as he changed, and he walked with me to my room. He waved a fire into existence before making a large pallet of pillows and furs appear. He helped me sit down and bundle up. The cold was worse than anything I had ever dealt with because it went straight to the bones. I was shivering as I laid under the furs, and he pulled me to his side. I wasn't sure what to say... I wasn't sure if I believed him. I knew that if he had the ability to glamour people then who knows what was real from him. I shouldn't have thought that but I had heard the things people have said behind his back, around court about him being with a mortal, the small comments Thor has made about his past relationships, and now to hear this... I fell asleep in his arms as he hummed in my ear with these thoughts swirling in my head.
I woke up the next morning laying on the bed with furs on me. I felt warmed than I did last night, but still chilled. I pulled on my normal clothes because I didn't want to wear a dress today. I put on my jeans, a t-shirt, and a thick hoodie that I had brought as I put on my sneakers. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and tucked my hands in my pockets as I slipped out that morning. I was up early because the palace was still quiet. I let me feet lead me as I found myself walking up to Heimdal.
"I saw you coming." he said and I chuckled as I stood beside him and looked out over space.
"I'm sure you did." I said and he smirked at me.
"I heard you took down a frost giant." he said and I smirked.
"Lucky shot." I said and he nodded.
"Lucky or not most people have never done that." he said and I nodded.
"Sif did most of the work." I said and he smirked.
"You will be an Asgardian warrior soon enough." he said and I shook my head as I smiled at him.
"Are you alright?" he asked me.
"I'm still cold." I admitted and he nodded.
"Are you homesick as well? You are wearing your normal clothes." he said and I nodded.
"I'm just not sure where I fit in here. I came as an ambassador and I'm not sure what I am doing." I admitted and he nodded.
"You are doing what you need to do. You have made friends, learned the culture, and even given some new ideas. The prince is just a bonus. You are a good for him, and much better than his ex-wife." he said and I nodded. I had to hide my surprise that he had been married. I knew that he was much much older than I realized, and maybe this is where being a mortal was the problem.
"Enough about Loki... he will tell you what you need to know when you need to know it. Go see Helga and warm up. She has a tea that will help you." he said and I smiled.
"Thank you, Heimdal." I said and he smiled at me before I wandered back to Helga's shop. I knocked and she opened the door with a smile.
"I was hoping you would stop by today. I wanted to congratulate you on your kill... a frost giant. I am impressed." she said and I smirked.
"Sif told everyone?" I asked her and she chuckled.
"My sister told me." she said as she handed me a cup of hot tea.
"This will warm you." she said and I took a sip. I felt it flow through me and I sighed as it felt warm.
"What does your sister do here?" I asked her and she chuckled.
"My sister is the queen and my brother is the keeper." she said and I sat there for a second before realizing that she was related to Frigga and Heimdal. She chuckled as my eyes got large.
"Oh." I finally said and she smiled at me.
"Are you alright today, dear?" she asked me and I shrugged. I felt like Helga was my adopted mom in Asgard since she helped me with the hangover and I couldn't hide much from her.
"I guess I'm homesick." I said and she nodded.
"Are you sure it's not something else?" she asked me as I took a sip of my tea and I smirked.
"I'm just not sure if I belong here." I finally admitted and she chuckled.
"You do. The whole family has fallen in love with you, the people of Asgard enjoy having you around, and we are learning much from each other... if it's the prince then just give it time. He's had a few mistakes with his past relationships, but I have never seen him look at anyone the way he looked at you." she said and I nodded.
"Even his ex-wife?" I asked her and she started laughing.
"She treated him so poorly that Odin banished her." she said and my eyes got wide. I realized that maybe Loki didn't reveal all of himself to people because he had been so hurt in the past. I talked to Helga a little longer before heading back to the palace. She needed to take something to Frigga, and I had agreed to take it to her. I walked back into the palace and was walking through the throne room when Frigga came out from the garden.
"Parker, we were looking for you." she said and I handed her the package.
"Oh, I see you were with Helga. Thank you, are you alright?" she asked me and I nodded as Odin walked up to me.
"Ah, Parker, I heard you are a warrior now." he said and I chuckled.
"Lucky throw." I said and he chuckled.
"Either way, I am marching on them tonight, and we will celebrate after." he said and I nodded.
"I recommend looking in the back of the throne room." I said and he looked surprised, but nodded. I had seen a cache of weapons, and knew that wouldn't be a good thing.
"I will see you for a feast tonight." he said and we both nodded.
"Parker, would you join me today?" she asked me and I nodded. I knew that everyone else would be with Odin, and I knew that I needed something to stop all these thoughts from worrying me.
