Chapter 6: First Day

Two Weeks Later

This was it. The first day. It had been so long since he had been to an actual school. In the past, the prison system allowed him private tutoring to keep up with his studies. He knew he would have a hard time getting used to having classmates, but he was used to adapting in different situations. He stood in front of the massive archway in front of the school, students rushing past him eager to get to their first day of class. From what Principal Nezu had told him, this was the best hero school in the country, and people come from all over for a chance to enroll here. Once again, he could hear various students whispering about him.

'Isn't that the prisoner kid from the exam?'

'Why is he wearing that hat? It's against school policy.'

'This school is actually letting a villain go here?'

Their words meant nothing to him. All he was focused on was finding his class. If he remembered correctly, he was looking for room 1-A. The school was so big though that he doubted he'd have an easy time finding it, so he decided to swallow his pride and ask for directions. He walked forward into the crowd of students and found a boy looking up at the building much like he was. He had fluffy green hair and a rather plain looking face. He decided to ask him for directions.

"Excuse me, kid?"

The boy turned around as if he were snapped from a trance.

"Sorry kid, I just need directions. Do you know where room 1-A is?", he asked.

"Uh… s-sure. I'm actually heading there myself, so it looks like we're classmates. I-i'm Izuku Midoriya."

The greenete reached his hand out to shake CJ's hand, which he gladly accepted.

"Nice to meet you Izuku, I'm Carter Slade."

The boy froze for a moment before speaking.

"Y-you mean the kid from the exam? The one who blew up the zero pointer?", he stuttered.

"Yeah, that's me. That doesn't bother you does it?"

Izuku thought to himself for a second.

"No. It seems like you have good intentions, Prisoner or not, I'm glad to see you're a nice guy."

His answer shocked CJ. He was surprised how nice he was being to a criminal. Something about the boy's mannerisms calmed CJ, making him look more forward to the coming year. He followed the green haired boy inside and through the various hallways until they reached room 1-A. The two of them couldn't help but be in awe of the sheer size of the room's door.

"That… is one big damn door", commented CJ.

"Yeah, it's honestly intimidating", replied Izuku.

Various voices could be heard from inside, either talking about a series of topics or yelling at someone to take their feet off of a desk. Izuku decided to enter first, being bombarded with either questions from a tall boy with dark blue hair while another boy questioned, quote 'what the hell he was doing there'. CJ decided to make his grand entrance, though as soon as he appeared in the doorway the whole room went quiet, as if they were all shocked by his presence. CJ ignored the silence and decided to make his way to an empty desk in the back corner. A boy with blonde spiky hair approached him.

"So the rumors are true. They actually let a villain in the school. If I had half a mind then I'd kick your ass right here and now", threatened the talking pomeranian.

CJ looked the kid up and down, trying to get a read on him.

"Well it's nice to meet you too", retorted CJ.

The tall, blue haired boy approached him next, hoping to disperse any chance of a brawl between the two.

"Why does it matter if he is a criminal or not? He is clearly here to better himself."

CJ looked at him with thanks, extending his hand in greeting.

"Please forgive my ill-tempered acquaintance here. My name is Tenya Iida. You're Carter Slade correct? I remember seeing your performance at the entrance exam. It was quite the show."

CJ was flattered to know that people thought his exam was impressive.

"Thanks for the praise. I'm honestly glad to see mostly friendly faces here. This honestly wasn't what I was expecting-"

He was cut off suddenly by a short kid with purple balls on top of his head.

"That's right, you're that prisoner kid from the entrance exam. What'd you do anyway?", he asked.

The whole room was silent, except for Iida, who scolded the dwarf boy.

"How dare you ask him something so personal?! If he doesn't want to speak of it then you have no right to-".

This time CJ cut him off.

"Easy man. No harm done"

CJ looked the kid in the eye.

"What's your name kid?", he asks.

"Minoru Mineta", he responds.

"Do you really want to know why I went to prison? The real truth?"

He stood up and slowly walked to the center of the room, staring the purple headed boy in the eye.

"I-...", he stopped.

The door slid open, ending the conversation and revealing both a man in all black carrying a yellow sleeping bag and Principal Nezu. The man in black was the first to break the silence.

"Good morning students, my name is Shota Aizawa. I'll be your homeroom teacher this year. With me today Is our school's Principal."

Principal Nezu walked to the front of the room. Following him were two people whom CJ had met.

"Greeting students, my name is Principal Nezu. Don't worry, my visit will be short. I was personally escorting these two to their class. I hope to see you all excel during the coming school year!", he stated.

Shortly after Principal Nezu left, Mr. Aizawa stood behind his podium at the front of the room, with the two new students.

"Everyone, these are two more of your classmates. Kyoka Jiro and Eijiro Kirishima, while I know you'd like the chance to socialize more, I need everyone to head to the locker rooms and change into their athletic clothes."

"What about the opening ceremonies?", asked a pink haired girl.

"You're all here to be heroes right? Then you have no need for pointless ceremonies."

Everyone took exception to that, making their way towards the locker rooms. After changing they all headed outside to the training ground.

"Today I'll be personally assessing you based on your physical abilities. Your score will be judged on your performance".

The class as a whole, minus CJ, went on to talk about how fun this would be.

"If you're here to have fun, then go ahead and pack up and leave. Again, you're all here to become heroes, not socialize. Oh and one more thing, whoever scores the lowest will be expelled", scolded Mr. Aizawa.

The whole class was in shock. None of them wanted to be expelled, as they had all worked so hard to get there.

CJ walked forward, stopping in front of the man in black.

"What do I have to do then?", he asked, accepting the challenge.

What followed was a series of events which included a 100 meter sprint, side to side jumps, push ups, sit ups and a 50 meter race. After that was all said and done, the class gathered for the final event.

"The final event is a ball throw. This ball here has a tracker built in to tell the exact distance it was thrown. You, Bakugou, what was the farthest you threw a softball in middle school?"

CJ looked over at the blonde with anger issues. Now he knew his name.

"67 meters, why?", he asked.

Mr. Aizawa tossed him the ball.

"This time I want you to put your full power behind your throw. Quirk and all."

Bakugou grinned with both tenacity and pride at this.

"You don't have to tell me twice. Outta my way you damned extras!", he shouted angrily, making his way to the throwing line.

He dug his foot into the dirt, cocking back his arm, he threw the ball, setting off an explosion.

"DIE!!!", he shouted.

The ball flew through the air at lightning speeds, eventually landing far out of sight. Everyone looked over at Mr. Aizawa for the results.

"705.2 meters", he says holding up a datapad.

The whole class started praising him for his feat. One by one the class threw the ball as far as they could. One girl even made hers float into orbit, causing her distance to be labeled 'infinity'. Eventually it was CJ's turn.

"Alright Carter, because of your special case I'll be letting you throw the ball twice."

This raised several questions from his classmates, mainly about why he gets two throws.

"Settle down, or you're ALL expelled!", shouted Mr. Aizawa, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"He gets two throws because he has two quirks. I'll be testing them individually. Carter, if you would please."

Mr. Aizawa threw the ball to CJ.

"Alright 'Tex', let's see what you got."

CJ lined himself up at the throwing line with the ball in his left hand. He opens his right hand as dust begins swirling around it, ready to take form. As quickly as he tossed the ball into the air, he molds a shotgun in his hand and takes aim.

'BANG'

The first shot launches the ball beyond the training grounds. CJ drops the shotgun and quickly molds a Winchester lever-action rifle. Chambering a round, he takes aim and fires three times, hitting the ball with each shot.

'BANG… BANG… BANG'

The ball eventually went behind the trees, blocking his view. The class then praised CJ for his good aim, eager to see his other quirk. It was incredibly rare for a person to be born with two quirks. Usually children are born with a combination of their parent's quirks, or at least one of them. Mr. Aizawa looked at the datapad to see the final results.

"801.7 meters. You currently hold the top spot. Honestly I think even Snipe would be impressed. Here's another ball. I saw the damage you did in the entrance exam, they're actually still cleaning it up. Anyways, hurry up. I wanna get some sleep before I go on patrol tonight."

CJ couldn't help but feel slightly nervous.

"I need everyone to back up. Far."

He looked Aizawa in the eye, alerting him of the seriousness of his warning.

"Alright. Everyone behind the barrier."

He led the rest of the class behind a neck high concrete wall, ducking behind it enough to see what CJ would do. He glances back at the sets of eyes peering over. He closes his eyes, accessing the powers of the Rider. Over the years he was able to control how much of the power he let out, eventually learning to summon the Rider at will. Just like before, his skin turned pale and gray. Dust began swirling around him as his skin started to crack open. Once again, burning embers appeared in the cracks and lines covering his body. His eyes shot open as he cocked his right arm back. Letting out a yell, he threw the ball as hard as he could.

"RAAUGH!!!"

The ground shook from the force of his throw, cracking the ground around him and breaking off pieces of the wall. Everyone looked up in shock, trying to see where the ball was. All they saw was a hole piercing through the clouds. As the dust settled, Mr. Aizawa looked at his datapad to see the results of this throw.

"Holy shit… 11,937.9 meters… You just broke All Mights record…"

The students of Class 1-A were in shock. They had never seen or even heard of such power before.

"Just what I would expect from you. Your powers are stronger than I had hoped."

Carter froze upon hearing this voice. He knew good and well who it was. Slowly he turned around to look the man in the face. The man had neck length, silver hair and a silver mustache that sat on his upper lip. Donned in a long brown trench coat and a matching hat with a pinch-front crown, the man looked every part of a cowboy. He reached into his breast pocket, pulling out an aluminum flask and taking a swig. CJ decided to be the first to speak, uttering only one word.

"You…"

"Hey there bonehead… Long time no see…"
