A/N: Regulus is a Ravenclaw in his story and he might be a little OOC. Sirius might be as well. It's been a while since I wrote them, and I forgot how Sirius sounds like in my head.
If you saw my brother and met him, you would think he was a goof-off and an annoying person. You might say that of his friends too. However, he had a friend that seemed so unlike everyone else. He wasn't loud. Remus was his name. I heard my brother talk about him a lot. I wanted to find out what was up with my brother's quiet friend.
It was lunchtime and all I could think about was watching my brother and his friend. Oh, that's right. My name, I may have forgotten to tell you, is Regulus Black. I'm in my second year at Hogwarts. A small notebook sat in front of me, quill in my hand. It looked like I was working on homework, but I was actually noting down things about this kid. If you saw him, you would think he came from a rough home. He had scars on his face and hands. He was laughing with my older brother, Potter, and some other kid I didn't know. Sighing, I wrote something down on the paper and looked up just in time to see a letter that dropped in front of me.
It was from my mother. She still didn't know what house I'd been sorted into, even after two years. Sighing again, I looked up to see Remus laughing again. He looked happy but there was something in his eyes. Merlin, what was it? I watched as he got up, waved to his friends, and walked away.
"What are you doing Reg?" My friend, who was sitting next to me, asked but I didn't reply. I stood up, gathered my things, and followed him, ignoring my friend as they called out to me.
I found him in the library, which proved my point about him being very different than my brother. He was smiling when he opened a large book without noticing me. He rubbed his shoulder and I wondered why. Maybe he was hurt by his parents, but that did not explain why he looked sick last week, and then I didn't see him at all yesterday at lunch. I wrote this down and closed my eyes with a heavy sigh. He looked up from his book and looked at me.
"Do you need help with your homework?" he asked me.
Shocked, I shook my head. He nodded and went back to reading. My eyes moved next to him and saw he had a cane. Why would a thirteen-year-old need a cane? I shook my head and went back to my notes. However, I soon felt his green-amber eyes on me again. I looked up from my notes and gulped
"Yes?" I said tersely, looking at him. I didn't mean to sound rude, but that is how it came out.
Remus stood up and walked over to me. His eyes grew wide, and I knew that he had figured out who I was.
"You're Sirius' brother, Regulus," he said. I nodded and closed my notes. He smiled and sat down next to me.
"Sirius told me about you," he said, running his hand over his shoulder again.
I nodded, studying him carefully. Finally, he removed his hand from his shoulder with a wince.
"What did he say about me?" I asked, noticing the scars on his hands.
He cleared his throat and seemed to be searching for the right words. The scarring made me think that he could have been attacked by a werewolf. I had overheard Mother and Father talk about the types of wounds werewolves inflict.
"He said that you needed something to motivate you. Ravenclaw will serve you well here at Hogwarts," Remus said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
I nodded; my head was swarming with theories about him. He glanced at my notes and stood with a nervous chuckle.
"Good luck… with…. with your homework," he said.
I raised an eyebrow and looked back at my notes. What if he wasn't attacked by a werewolf. What if he was a werewolf? It would explain him disappearing last week and the cane. I stood up and gathered my things. I had to find him and confirm my suspicions.
I didn't see him until the following week. I was in the library doing some research on werewolves when I saw Remus drag Sirius in the door. I raised the book to cover my face, hoping that they wouldn't see me. Unfortunately, Sirius saw me and waved. I waved back, and they walked over to me. I quickly hid the book in my bag Sirius pulled Remus over to me and I met his eyes. He looked nervous. I saw it in his eyes. "Hey Reg," Sirius said, looking at me and then back at Remus.
"Hey Sirius," I said, trying to keep my voice even. "Remus said he saw you looking at a book on werewolves last time he saw you. I said he was being paranoid but..." Sirius cut off when I reluctantly pulled out the book
"I know," I said under my breath.
Remus looked at me and laughed nervously.
"That werewolves are monsters?" Remus asked, his voice cracking with fear. At that moment, I knew my theory was correct.
I shook my head and Sirius sat next to me. Remus, however, stayed standing. He rocked on his feet, no longer needing a cane.
"No," I said firmly, fixing my gaze on Remus. I giggled nervously. "I know that you are a werewolf. I didn't say that you were a monster."
"See Rem, he gets it. Now let's go somewhere fun," Sirius said, standing.
"No, I think I'll stay here," Remus said, sitting down.
"Ok, see you guys later, then!" Sirius
Remus was, well, I think I can be friends with him. Even though he's in another house he's still cool.
