Golden and red leaves shone as the setting sun filtered through them. It was around six in the evening. A small, plump woman walked down a dirt path. It had been a year since she and her friends had opened the school and she couldn't be happier. Helga Hufflepuff smiled to herself as she watched the wind blow the leaves off the trees around her.

"It's a beautiful day," she said to herself as she hummed a bright, merry tune.

Her long, black hair bounced about her shoulders as she slowly walked and taking in her surroundings and enjoying the fresh air. Suddenly, the sound of soft crying made her stop.

"Hello?" she asked, following the sound.

She raised her eyebrows in surprise when she saw a boy who looked to be around thirteen. He had fiery-reddish-brown hair. Tears streamed down his cheeks.

"Young man are you all right?" she asked, looking at the boy in concern.

The boy didn't look up but wiped his cheeks and took a shaky breath.

"Are you alright?" she asked again, flattening down her dress before she sat down across from the boy.

He opened his eyes, but he didn't look at her, nor did he say anything.

"My name is Helga. What's yours?" Helga looked at the boy's green-and-amber eyes, a gentle smile crossing her face. She was wondering why he wouldn't meet her eyes.

"N-Newton, but call me N-Newt," the boy—Newt said, finally meeting her eyes for a second before he looked at the rock that was next to him. Helga noticed a wand in his left hand.

"Is that your wand, Newt?" Helga asked, pointing at it. Newt looked down and sighed before he nodded.

"I don't deserve it, though," Newt said, staring at the wand in his hand. Helga smiled gently.

"Of course, you deserve it. What makes you think that you don't?" She asked, standing up and brushing off her golden yellow dress. Newt stood up and wiped the tears from his eyes.

"My mother and my brother said that I don't need a wand because I'm ungrateful. Father was right," Newt muttered the last part, but Helga heard it all the same.

"Well, do you believe that? I don't believe that" she said, looking at his outfit for the first time. She realized that his clothes did not match the uniforms her students wore. Newt shook his head.

"I want to prove them wrong. Even if I can't be a wizard because I helped a friend," Newt said slowly and put his wand away. He then stood up straight, but Helga noticed that he still wouldn't meet her eyes.

"Where are you from? Your clothing seems strange and out of place."

Newt met her eyes for a moment before he let out a shaky breath. He then looked away.

"Merlin," he muttered and picked up something that Helga didn't recognize. It hung on a golden chain. There was a large hourglass in the middle of it. The sand slowly leaked out of it. "Theseus," he added quietly. Helga looked at him and raised an eyebrow.

"Who's Theseus?" She asked as Newt picked up a bag.

"He's, my brother. I... I must have grabbed it when I was running away from home and now, I'm stuck whenever here is. To...to add to that, I'm just a Hufflepuff," Newt said and turned to walk away.

Helga followed him. She found him by the lake sitting down and watching the water with a sad smile on his face. He was laughing quietly which made her smile.

"Sometimes you can see creatures in there?" Helga said to the young Hufflepuff.

Newt, however, didn't respond as he was lost in his own world. Helga didn't mind.

"I might be able to help you get home," Helga said, but Newt still didn't say anything as he watched the bubbles pop out of the water. Helga sat down next to the boy.

"I love this lake. So many friends to get to know," Newt said, but he sounded like he was talking to himself.

"I can help you get home. It will take some magic, but I think I can fix that device you have," Helga told him.

Newt nodded and closed his eyes.

"Listen, though. I haven't heard this in a year," Newt said.

"It is a lovely day. Come on," she said standing up.

Newt nodded slowly and did the same.

"Now, one thing you must know is we are stronger than any other House. I told my friends this and they believed me," Helga said, holding out her hand. "Now," she added. "Give me the necklace," she continued.

Newt took the necklace out of his bright blue coat and handed it to her. Helga closed her eyes as a bright light filled the fall air around them. A few seconds later, the light faded, and the necklace was fixed. "Here you go," she said, handing it back. Newt smiled before he picked up his brother's bag and twisted the notches

"I will prove them wrong. Thank you," Newt said with a laugh.

"Yes, and don't run away again. You can be a great wizard. My name is Helga Hufflepuff by the way," she said with a giggle when she saw Newt's eyes lit up.

Newt then disappeared in a flash. Helga nodded and started to hum to herself again as she walked back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
