He couldn't believe what had happened, no matter how hard he tried to wrap his eleven-year-old mind around it. His parents were back. Harry Potter didn't understand how, but Dumbledore said it was something to do with the Mirror of Erised. The headmaster said that he'd wished so hard that somehow, they had come back. Harry smiled as he sat in his new room in his new house. He didn't have to live with his stupid relatives anymore. Harry wiped tears of joy from his eyes as he looked down at the letters from his friends on his desk when he heard a noise from the other side of the door. Laughter filled the entryway. Harry didn't understand why, but it was nice to hear.
"Where's my Godson?"
Harry looked up from the letters.
"Godson?" Harry asked himself. He stood up and walked over to put his ear against the door.
"He's in his room. He's a little overwhelmed by the fact that we are alive," he heard his mother say. Harry raised an eyebrow and opened the door slowly. He was curious. Harry took a deep breath before he walked out of his room and to the stairs.
When Harry got to the stairs, he saw his parents talking with two men. One of them was tall with scarring on his face and graying hair. Next to him stood a shorter man with long black hair. He smiled when he saw him.
"Harry?" the man asked, walking over to the stairs. Harry nodded and waved tentatively.
"Hello," Harry said quietly.
"You might not remember me, but I'm Sirius Black. I'm your Godfather."
His father added, "This is Remus. He is a great friend of ours,"
Harry's parents put their hands on his shoulders supporting him. Harry waved at Remus, but he didn't say anything. However, in the back of his mind, he was still shocked that he had a Godfather. His uncle and aunt had never told him this. Harry rocked back on his feet as he looked shyly at Sirius.
"Can I hug you, Harry?" Sirius asked, rocking on his feet also. He seemed nervous.
Harry smiled before Sirius pulled him into his arms. The hug was warm and gentle. Sirius released him from his arms, but he was almost embarrassed to admit he didn't want it to end. However, soon Remus pulled him into a hug as well. Harry smiled in Remus's arms. After the hug was over, the five of them walked to the dining room.
Harry was sitting next to his father as Remus and Sirius told Harry about themselves. Harry didn't expect Remus to be a werewolf, but he didn't care. Harry sat there on the couch with a bright smile on his face. Harry smiled, even more, when he heard his mother in the kitchen talking with their house-elf about dinner.
"I'm sorry about not being there in the past, pup," Sirius said, bringing Harry out of his reverie. Harry waved his hand.
"It's ok, Sirius; do you guys want to hear about my first quidditch match?" Harry asked, his father and Sirius smiling just as bright as Harry. Remus shook his head, but he was smiling too. Harry opened his mouth to speak, but then his mom walked into the living room.
"Dinner is ready," Lilly called. Sirius jumped up from his chair and ran ahead into the dining room.
"Come on Moony, Prongs. Food!" Sirius called, sounding like a student who'd just come home from college. Remus rolled his eyes and followed Sirius. followed by James and Harry.
Dinner was quiet at first, and Harry was grateful but confused by it.
James sighed and looked at Lilly. "Harry, how are you liking Hogwarts? I know we saw you after you got home but you haven't said much," James said. Lily smiled gently at Harry who took a drink from his cup.
"It's great! Ron and Hermione are amazing friends and I love quidditch. I love magic," Harry said rather bluntly, but he knew that his family didn't care.
Sirius took a sip from his drink and chuckled.
"Did you pull any pranks?" Sirius asked. Harry shook his head with a grave look on his face, and Remus laughed at Sirius's look of disappointment. Lilly rolled her eyes as she gave Harry more water.
"That's alright. but man, Remus, your father, and I pulled so many. It was wonderful," Sirius added, taking a bite.
"You were telling us about your first quidditch match?" Remus asked, trying to change the subject.
Lily smiled when Harry sat up in his chair and told them all about the game. "Then I threw it up. I caught the Snitch in my mouth!" Harry finished, making his family laugh.
"Wow, I'm so proud of you, Harry. How about your friends?" James asked, taking a bite. Harry laughed and started to tell him about how he'd met Ron and Hermione on the train.
"The next thing we knew there was a troll in the school and well—" Harry stopped as Lily gasped.
"A troll?" Lily cried, picking up the plates. "Please tell me you didn't go after it!"
"Well..." Harry said, running his hand through his black hair.
"Harry! I should ground you. I'm happy that you saved someone from it, but—" Lily sighed making James and Sirius laugh. Remus shook his head and went to help Lily in the kitchen.
"Are you ok now, cub?" Remus asked over the counter. Harry nodded and gave Remus a reassuring smile.
"That is how Hermione became our friend and I'm sure we will be friends forever," Harry finished as he turned around to see his father and Godfather talking to each other. Harry smiled as he realized the similarities between himself and his friends and his parents and their friends. Harry knew that his life would be better because of his new friends and better family.
