Xion and Roxas open their eyes as they regain consciousness. They look around and find themselves outside some sort of castle. Roxas and Xion turn to each other to talk about where they may be. Only to hear a commotion within the castle. The two quickly enter the castle walls to see what's going on. As they do so, they see King Mickey being thrown to the ground by a small nightmare. The nightmare leaps into the air to finish Mickey off but is instantly destroyed by a single slash of Roxas's keyblade. Mickey is surprised by the arrival of this mysterious figure but is even more surprised that there's more than one of them, and that they know him.
"Mickey, are you okay?" asks Xion as she runs up to the familiar mouse.
"Huh? Have we met before?" asks Mickey. Xion practically flinches as she realizes the mistake she's made again.
"Huh? Uh well-" Xion tries to make an explanation, but Roxas buts in and provides a lie of his own on the spot.
"Sorry, we're just lost. Do you know where we are?" Roxas asks.
"Hmm? You don't know?" asks Mickey, who turns his attention to their keyblades. "And where'd you get those keys?"
"What? You don't know?" asks Xion, wondering if this really is their old friend or some past version of him.
"They're Key-" Roxas is about to explain but is immediately cut off by Mickey who shushes them.
"I do know. You came from another world, right?" the mouse asks.
"That's right," says Xion.
"Don't you know about keeping the world order?" Mickey asks. The two keyblade wielders look to each other, then back at mickey. They don't remember being told about that. "Residents of other worlds aren't supposed to know that there are other worlds out there. So we need to avoid talking about keyblades and such." Mickey warns.
"Oh, right! I totally forgot about that. Thanks." says Roxas.
"You don't know what he's talking about," says Xion
"What the-, well, neither do you!" Roxas fires back. Xion and Mickey get a short laugh at Roxas's expense, before calming down.
"Say though, we could really use your help with a little problem. That's why I'm in this world bein' a Musketeer."
"Ah alright. I'm Xion, and this is my boyfriend, Roxas. We're happy to help." Xion says cheerfully.
"Thanks," Mickey responds, before turning to someone else, Goofy. Goofy is running around wildly, swinging his blade with his eyes closed. "Goofy! You can stop! They're gone." Goofy comes to a halt and opens his eyes.
"You mean. . .we clobbered 'em?" goofy asks. Roxas and Xion crack a smile. It seems Goofy is goofy as usual. They turn around as they hear footsteps behind them, it's Donald, though he seems pretty shaken.
"W-who are you two?" asks Donald.
"Heya Donald! This is Roxas and Xion. They're helping us with our little problem here." Mickey explains. "Speaking of which, we've gotta go protect the Princess! Donald, Goofy. Follow me!" says Mickey before walking towards the gates from which Roxas and Xion came.
"Huh? Didn't you say you needed our help?" Roxas asks.
"Well yes, but this mission is fraught with danger. We can't have you two coming along." Mickey explains.
"Dangerous? But we're masters-" says Roxas, before being cut off by Xion.
"ALMOST masters." Xion clarifies. "But I agree. If it's dangerous, then that means you'll need all the help you can get." Mickey thinks for a moment, before giving in.
"Well, all right. Thank you!" says Mickey. Goofy suddenly perks up as he gets an idea.
"Hey, can we do the thing?" Goofy asks Mickey.
"The thing?" Roxas asks. Goofy walks over to the two and quickly explains it. The two smile and nod. The five form a small circle, and Mickey raises his blade.
Mickey starts "All for one. . ."
"And one for all!" the other four say in unison. The four head to the carriage from which the princess awaits. Goofy and Donald sat in front of the carriage, making sure the horses carried them to their destination, while Roxas, Xion, and Mickey sat on top of the carriage. While riding, the three hear loud thumps coming from behind, they turn and their eyes widen as they see a nightmare, taking the form of a T-rex, chasing behind them.
"Dream Eater!" shouts Roxas. Roxas, Xion, and Mickey get on their feet, and ready themselves to fight off the beast. The beast spews large fire projectiles from its mouth. Roxas blocks the attacks while Xion sends the fireballs back at the nightmare. The nightmare comes charging at the carriage, but Mickey manages to hold it off with a light pearl spell, sneakily summoning his keyblade for a moment to cast the spell, before going back to using the foil blade. This causes the nightmare to fall over, crashing into the carriage a little before falling into a nearby river. The crash causes Mickey, Donald, and Goofy to fly off the carriage, leaving just the two keyblade wielders on it, clinging to the bar on the back of the carriage. The two try and pull themselves up onto the carriage, but what they see shocks them. Thre hooded figures bearing foils of their own stand on the carriage.
"Sorry mates, We'll be lightnin' your load by one princess." says the tallest one
"Now make like those Musketeers and scram!" the average one exclaims
"Au revoir." says the short one. He slashes at their hands causing them to fall off as they bleed. The two struggle to get up as they see the carriage slowly disappear into the distance. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy run up to them as Xion begins to use cure spells to mend their wounds.
"Are you okay?" asks Donald.
"We're alright now. . ." Roxas winces as the wound closes on his hand.
"They got away with the princess. . . We're sorry." Xion laments.
"Don't be. It's not your fault," says Mickey.
"We'll just have to stick together! If we have each other, then I bet we can get the Princess back no problem!" Says Goofy, lifting the spirits of everyone, minus Donald.
Xion laughs at herself for falling back on those old habits of responding to all negativity with gloominess. "Right, c'mon. Let's go," she says, helping Roxas back onto his feet. The five make their way down the path the carriage went. Eventually, they find the carriage and horses by the river. They look around and see a tower on a lone island in the middle of the river.
"Wow, I wonder where they took the princess," Roxas says sarcastically, before running off towards the bridge, Xion running by his side, and the three musketeers following closely behind. They cross the bridge and enter the tower, and begin their ascent to the top. The five finally reach the top. They find the princess, but they also, find the three hooded figures. The three figures attack but are immediately dealt with by Roxas and Xion, enacting revenge for those cheap blows on the carriage. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy retrieve Princess Minnie.
"My heroes!" says Minnie cheerfully as she's guided to the other end of the room while Roxas and Xion continue to battle the figures. Finally, the pair finish them off, casting a powerful wind spell to blast them out the nearby window.
"Wow, you two really are masters. . ." says Mickey, surprised by their incredible efficiency.
"Oh, stop it. We don't know if we're going to pass yet," says Xion. "We still have one more world to go through."
"Well, with how you're doing now, I'm sure you'll do it!" says Goofy.
"Thanks. Now let's get going. The princess has places to be." says Roxas
"Oh, your right! I completely forgot!" says Minnie. The five quickly exit the tower, and get the princess back to her carriage, before making their way to their destination.
By the time the group is back at the castle, night has already fallen upon the world. The musketeers take up their posts for the night while Roxas and Xion lean against a wall and look up to the stars.
"I wonder how Riku and Kairi are doing," says Xion
"They're probably doing fine," says Roxas. "They're strong, hell, Kairi still owes me a rematch," says Roxas.
"Geeze, that feels like so long ago now. . . I can't wait to tell Sora bout everything that happened," says Xion.
"Yeah. . . Sora. . ." Roxas says, his eyes looking towards the ground.
". . . Roxas, are you okay? You've been acting . . . different lately," says Xion, Roxas looks over to her with a dejected look in his eyes.
"You've noticed?" he asks, Xion nods. Roxas sighs, he doesn't know what to say. "It's nothing. Just thinking about stuff."
"Well. . . it's clearly bothering you," says Xion. "Roxas, you can always talk to me, alright? No matter how strange you think it may be, I promise I'll hear everything you say." Roxas doesn't know what to say. How could he tell her that she'll disappear? Xion looks at him, awaiting his response, Roxas takes a deep breath, but before he can reluctantly explain, they overhear Goofy yelling
"Hey! You! Stop!" he shouts
Mickey comes running out from his post as he tries to find out what's going on. Roxas and Xion quickly join him as Donald comes running in.
"Donald, what's happening?" asks Mickey
"The captain! He's gonna kidnap Princess Minnie!" Donald Exclaims
"What? But he's the one who made us Musketeers," says Mickey, completely shocked.
"It was all a lie!" he says in a panic.
"A lie. . . Well, lie or no lie, we Musketeers don't ever run from danger!" Mickey exclaims.
"Yeah! And with all of us together, there's nothing that can stop us," says Xion, But Donald steps back, trembling a bit.
"No. . . You can do it, but I can't." He says before turning in running.
"Donald! Wait!" says Mickey, but Donald is already out of sight by the time he starts running.
"Don't worry Mickey, He'll come back," Xion Reassures him
"You think so?" He asks.
"Positive." Says Xion. Mickey smiles and nods, before turning to Roxas, who asks a question.
"If the captain is the culprit, we'll need to know what he's up to. Got any ideas, Mickey? " Before Mickey can answer, however, a sick laugh is heard from behind.
"What am I up to?" the familiar voice asks. The three turn around to face Captain Pete. "I'm up to plenty!"
"Pete!" Roxas and Xion shout as they materialize their keyblades, Mickey draws his regular blade alongside them.
"Whazzat? Who are you two?" he looks at them intently, trying to see if he knows them from, somewhere, but he doesn't. Despite this, Pete laughs anyways. "You stranges better watch out! I'll endanger all of you!" Pete raises his hands and the group is immediately surrounded by nightmares. The trio fights off the nightmares valiantly, but upon realizing Pete has run for it, Mickey rushes after him, leaving the pair to deal with the remaining nightmares. After a few minutes, they're eliminated. Roxas and Xion catch their breath as footsteps approach them from behind.
"Where's Mickey?" asks Goofy.
"He ran after Pete!" Roxas exclaims.
"We need to find them now! Do you know where they are?" Xion inquires. Goofy and Donald think for a moment, before finding the only logical answer.
"They have to be at Mont Saint-Michel!" Donald exclaims.
"Alright, let's go!" Roxas and Xion sprint out of the gates with Goofy following closely behind, and Donald trailing farther behind, having hesitated before joining his comrades. After taking a small rowboat across the channel, they arrive at Mont Saint-Michel and begin sweeping the city in search of Mickey or Pete. After coming turning up nothing, they dive into the underground waterways, the last place they've yet to check. After searching every nook and cranny of the waterways, they finally find Mickey, lying unconscious in a corner of the waterways. Roxas and Xion Heal his wounds as he awakens.
"Donald? Goofy?" he says drowsily. He looks to his sides and sees his fellow keyblade wielders. "You too?"
"Of course we all came! We're your friends!" Donald exclaims. The four help Mickey onto his feet, before turning to where they came. "Now let's go! The princess needs us!" Says Donald, with surprising courage. They start walking, but Mickey doesn't follow.
"Mickey. . . is something wrong?" asks Roxas
"Aw, fellas. It's just. . . We're not even real Musketeers." Mickey says in a dejected tone.
"Mickey! Are you really just going to give up?" Xion asks, catching Mickey's attention. "You are a real musketeer. You are what you say you are and don't let anyone convince you otherwise." Mickey is surprised for a moment, before smiling and putting on his hat.
"You're right! We can't sit around like this!" Mickey unsheaths his blade and leads the way, "We have to rescue her majesty, at the Opera House!"
"Right!" the four shout" in unison. They backtrack through the tunnels and cross the channel yet again, before rushing to the opera house. Upon arriving, Roxas and Xion Hold back and strike down every nightmare in sight, allowing Mickey, Donald, and Goofy to storm through the halls and save princess Minnie. After destroying the final nightmare, Roxas and Xion follow the path the three musketeers took, allowing them to catch up with them on the stage of the opera house.
"The jig is up, Pete!" Mickey exclaims.
"There's no escape!" states Donald
"Yeah, it's three against one now!" says Goofy. Pete only laughs, before looking to a platform above, containing large crates. The support tethers connecting the platform to the ceiling give way and the boxes fall towards the musketeers and the princess
"Watch out!" the pair shout, but just as the Box is about to crash onto the four, they're hit with a powerful blast of dark fire
"What the- Impossible!" shouts Pete, looking towards where the crates were. Roxas and Xion quickly look back at the source of the dark fire, only to see the husk, their former nightmare staring back at them. It nods a little, before disappearing into the darkness. The two smile, before turning back to the musketeers.
"You guys get the princess to safety. We'll take care of things from here," says Roxas. Mickey and the Musketeers nod, before guiding Minnie to safety..
"Rrrgh! How dare you thwart me in the nick of time! This don't add up, I tell ya. Hey! Over here, boys!" Pete raises his hands to the air, and from the ceiling, the three hooded figures fall.
"Help won't save you now!" Roxas remarks as he and Xion ready their Keyblades. The pair's keyblades clash with the blades of Pete's lackeys. The three try and split them apart, but they're only launched back by powerful spells in retaliation. They even try to dive on them at the same time, but a white ball of energy comes from Xion's body and takes the form of a cat. Strela quickly casts a Balloon spell, forcing the three to back off.
"And where have you been all day?" Xion teases the Meow-Wow. Strela merely meows in return and the three return to dealing with the mediocre minions that face them. The lackeys attempt to run off stage, hoping the three will spare their lives. Roxas retaliates by cutting them off and knocking them back with a horizontal swipe. They're launched into the air by a balloon spell cast by Strela, before finally being Launched right back at Pete himself with a powerful wind spell cast from Xion's Keyblade.
Pete throws the unconscious bodies of his minions aside, before unsheathing a blade of his own and leaping off the risen platform he stands on.
"I'll do it myself!" he exclaims as he approaches the trio. Pete is quickly surrounded by the three, and whenever he tries to retaliate against one person's attack. He's hit from behind by another. From balloon spells to strike raids, Pete is repeatedly pelted by attacks, and it doesn't take long for him to meet the same fate as his lackeys, unconscious, and on the floor. With the battle over Strela once again forms into a ball of light and energy, before entering Xion's body to slumber once more.
"Lazybones. . ." Xion teases. Roxas and Xion begin binding the unconscious foes, as they await the return of the musketeers.
"Where do you think they went?" asks Roxas
"They probably took Minnie back to the castle," Xion suggests, finishing the final knot on their bindings. The pair step away from their unconscious foes, content with their work. It's not too long after that they hear footsteps coming from the audience. They turn to face who they think is their friends, but is instead the Nightmare Husk. He walks to the center of the auditorium and stops, and the two parties look at one another for a moment, before a bright light appears behind the Husk. It turns to face it, and the light takes the shape of a keyhole. The Husk leaps into the air and dives into the keyhole, disappearing from view. Roxas and Xion look at each other.
"You still need to tell me about what's bothering you, alright?" she asks. Roxas sighs and nods. They turn back to the keyhole and raise their keyblades.
"All for one. . ." says Roxas
"And one for all!" Xion finishes. Beams of light shoot from their keyblades, the lights combine together to form one large beam that pierces the keyhole, causing more light to pour out from it. The duo feels the familiar drowsy feeling washing over them once more, and they enter a state of slumber once more.
