Riku and Kairi regain their consciousness as the feeling of a fuzzy flying ball hitting them over the head repeatedly begin to make itself known. Flynn makes a strange cooing sound as the pair get on their feet. They look around and take in the scenery they find themselves in.
"Is this some sort of Theater?" Kairi asks.
"I'm not sure. We'll have to find out." Before either of them can investigate however they notice a familiar face looking around outside the building. The figure quickly goes back into the building, not noticing the presence of the two keyblade bearers.
"Isn't that. . . Pete?" Riku asks
"Yeah, I think so. But why is he here? This is only a memory right?" Kairi inquires
"Don't know, but if he's here, then trouble isn't too far. Let's go." Kairi nods, and the pair race off to the inside of the Opera house. The pair run through the Opera, making sure to strike down any nightmares they come across. The two of them run down a corridor, and not long after, find themselves on the left entrance to the stage.
"So it is a theater," Riku thinks aloud. Kairi quickly pulls him behind a curtain and shushes him, before peeking through. Riku joins her and sees three cloaked figures walking on stage with wooden cutouts of what appear to be Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. They watch as the three figures place down the figures on the center of the stage, before running away. Just as they run off, Pete walks on the top of the boat set on the backdrop of the stage, he looks up to a raised platform above, and suddenly, the wooden supports keeping it attached to the ceiling brake, and large crates fall and land on the cut-outs, obliterating them into nothing but splinters. A wicked grin forms on Pete's face before he walks off the set. His plan was clear and ready to be executed.
Riku and Kairi look at where the cutouts once stood, before noticing the three cloaked figures running into a room on the opposite side of the auditorium. The pair look at each other and nod, instinctively knowing what to do, the pair run after the figures and prepare to stop their plan before their friends can even arrive. The duo carefully explores the backstage area, making sure to traverse as quickly, and quietly as possible. As they enter a large room, however, their guard drops, as a large chest in front of them begins to move on its own.
"Is someone locked in there?" Kairi asks with a mix of shock and confusion. Riku and Kairi run to the chest and immediately unlock it with their keyblades, revealing a familiar face.
"Minnie!?" says Riku, surprised to see the queen in this dream realm. The two keyblade bearers immediately help their friend out of the chest.
"Oh, thank you for saving me!" says princess Minnie, as she begins to start walking in the opposite direction from the exit.
"Wait! Where are you going? The exit's over there." says Kairi, pointing in the direction of the path they came from.
"I can't leave! I have to help the Musketeers!" she exclaims.
"What happened? We can help." Riku offers.
"You would do that?" asks Minnie. Riku and Kairi nod.
"Of course, Mickey's our friend." Kairi explains, "I'm Kairi, and he's my friend, Riku."
"Oh, thank you! The stage has been rigged with awful machines! It's supposed to lure Mickey and the others into a terrible trap. We'd need to find a device that'd allow us to control the device from here." As Minnie explains this, the three heroes hear a loud clunk coming from behind Minnie. They look in that direction to see one of the cloaked figures removing a piece from the machine. The cloaked figure looks back at the two, his eyes widen as the trio lock eyes with him. The figure runs as fast as he can while Riku, Kairi, and Minnie chase after him.
As they chase after the cloaked figure, they enter a large room filled with gears and ropes. The figure draws his blade and throws the piece of the machine to another figure on a higher platform, who begins to run off with it. The cloaked figure turns and stabs at the three, but his blade is bet with Destiny's Embrace, allowing Riku to slash at him and send him crashing through a weak part of the wall. With one of the cloaked figures out of the way, Kairi casts an aero spell to lift the three of them to the higher platform, and continue their chase with the cloaked figure.
They dash through the corridors as fast as they can, the figure is in sight, and they're closing in. But just as they're about to reach him, another cloaked figure leaps out from behind some hanging clothes and gets between them and the machine piece. The figure swings rapidly with his blade, forcing Riku and Kairi back. The pair raise their keyblades and cast spells of light and darkness, knocking out the target instantaneously.
The trio step over the figure's unconscious body as they make up the distance gained from that battle. It doesn't take too long for them to catch the final culprit. Pinning him to the ground and knocking him out, before taking the piece of the stage gadget.
"We got it!" Kairi exclaims.
"Great! Now let's hurry back! I don't know when the musketeers will arrive." says Minnie nervously.
"Right!" Riku says Firmly. The trio makes their way to the backstage area where Minnie was held captive, but as Riku and Kairi enter the backstage, an invisible wall appears. Separating the two from their companion.
"What's going on?" Asks Kairi. Her question is answered immediately as a large Mole-like nightmare, known as the Holey Moley drops from the ceiling and through the floor. Flynn emerges from Riku's body and flies beside them.
"They just never want to make this easy, do they?" Riku remarks as he materializes Way to the Dawn
"You can say that again. . ." sighs Kairi as she materializes Destiny's Embrace. The trio dash at the Holey Moley, and attack it with incredible might, only for it to dive into a portal-like hole in the ground, completely dodging the attack. Riku and Kairi look around before noticing Flynn flying off. The pair follow him and run into the Holey Moley. Riku dashes at it as Kairi Casts a spell of light, The nightmare dives back into the portal, causing the light spell to collide with the wall, and causing Riku to completely miss his attack.
"We're not getting anywhere with this!" He growls as he looks around. He spots Flynn flying off again and runs after him. Kairi follows, but the two of them stop in their tracks as Flynn does a 180 and hisses at them. He turns to face two directions before making a clicking sound.
"I . . . think he wants us to split up," says Kairi.
"Sounds like a plan, and it might just work. Let's give it a shot!" Riku explains, before running in one of the directions Flynn pointed to. Kairi nods and runs to the other, and Flynn turns around to continue in the direction he was flying off in.
As Riku Arrives at one of the corners of the stage, he hears the familiar sound of a gravity spell being cast in the distance, and not too long later, the Holey Moley emerges from the ground and is immediately hit with a darkness-imbued slash from Riku. The nightmare roars in pain as Riku leaps back and casts a dark firaga spell. The creature dives into a nothing hole and appears in the opposite corner of the backstage arena, Kairi yells as she casts teh strongest light attack she can muster. The Holey Moley is obliterated as it's pelted by many light projectiles.
The creature dives into the hole one last time and appears atop the ceiling in the center of the arena. It sends out projectiles of its own at the trio, but is suddenly pulled out of its hole and to the ground by a strong gravity spell cast by Flynn. It tries to dive into a hole but it's finished off by a combination of dark firaga and strong light from the two keyblade bearers, destroying the nightmare for good.
With the nightmare gone the invisible wall disappears, and Minnie is able to enter the backstage area. "Riku! Kairi! The machine!" she exclaims as she runs in.
"On it!" Riku responds, running to the machine with the final piece in hand. He snaps it into place and begins turning the wheel. With one last push everything tightens and the gears on the wall begin to spin once more. Not too long after, they hear a voice coming from the opposite side of the wall.
"What! Impossible" Shouts Pete.
"Looks like we were just in time!" Kairi exclaims.
"Oh, they're safe! Thank goodness! You two truly saved the day." Says Minnie
"You don't have to thank us. We're just trying to help our friends," says Riku, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Yeah, that's what friends are for. You got each other's backs, even when things are looking bleak." Says Kairi. Minnie smiles and nods.
"Well, thank you, friends. If you need help, I'll be there for you as well." Minnie says with a smile. The two keyblade bearers guide the princess to the exit and see her off as she disappears from sight.
"It was nice seeing someone familiar." Riku thinks aloud.
"Yeah, I bet Sora would've had a blast doing this," Kairi says with joy, but also with a hint of sadness.
"Once, we're masters, once he's back, we should show him the worlds we've explored, just like we wanted to when we were kids," says Riku. A light begins to shimmer from the backstage wall and begins to take the shape of a keyhole. Kairi giggles a little and smiles.
"Yeah, that'd be nice." Kairi raises her keyblade alongside Riku, and from them come beams of light that pierce the keyhole. A blinding light pours into the room as the duo are hit with the familiar need to slumber once more, and so they give in and leave this world behind.
