Elise was awoken in the night by Monica's shrill shrieks. It seemed that she needed to have her diaper changed. Elise had no problem changing diapers, for she had to do it all of the time when it came to her brother back when they were very little. Back in the days when things were perfect. Elise silently berated herself for letting her mind wander into the past. The past was gone, and she needed to focus on exposing Tucker and saving Alphonse and Nina.
Using female pronouns on herself made her uneasy, for she wasn't a girl. But if she wanted to protect what little she had left, she would have to suck it up and pretend for the time being. That didn't mean she had to like it though. She despised getting dressed in the mornings because she couldn't stand staring at a woman's body. It made her feel like a creep even though she knew she wasn't. It made her feel so guilty.
Elise was snapped out of her nostalgic stupor when she got to Monica's changing table. As she continued to change Monica's diapers, Elise started humming the song she and her brother wrote and sunk right back into her stupor. Elise and her brother wrote that song together because they wanted to turn the millions of emotions they were feeling into music. She never got to see her brother's part of the song before her "disappearance" two months ago. It pained her, but she had no options left.
After changing Monica's diapers, she began to think about the new girl. Dani certainly seemed okay, but she was strangely cheerful. It just didn't seem natural to her. Despite that, Dani was really the only person who didn't seem to be making it their mission to nose their way into every aspect of her life. Dani backed off when she felt uncomfortable with sharing unlike Randal and even Nate to a certain degree. Everyone else just felt like they were silently staring her down waiting for her to crack and reveal something. Just how kind Dani was made her feel both comforted and suspicious at the same time. Comforted at the fact that someone wasn't prying into her miserable past, but suspicious because she couldn't understand why she was being so kind. Was it a trap that she was to be lured into?
Elise decided to go to bed instead of pondering questions she couldn't possibly know the answers to at the moment. She needed to look into it some more, but for now she needed sleep. Monica had swiftly fallen asleep after her diapers were changed. Elise was sleepy and fell asleep shortly after the baby did. She could think about all of that crap in the morning.
…
A few hours later Elise was awoken by her alarm. All of the alarms were set for 6:45 a.m. on weekdays and it was Thursday. She got out of bed with a slightly annoyed groan, but soon became comforted when remembering being awoken by Randal banging on her door. Elise smiled hearing Monica cooing in her crib. Instead of immediately going down for breakfast, she decided to play with Monica for a little bit. It's not like she was really that hungry anyway.
"Good morning, Monica," Elise softly greeted the baby girl, "You wanna play for a bit?"
Monica responded with a tiny giggle, but soon enough started chewing on the bars of her crib. Elise quickly grabbed a teething ring when she saw this.
"You look like your teeth are hurting a little bit," Elise chuckled, "This ring will definitely taste better than the bars."
Elise played with Monica for a bit before she heard a knock on the door.
"Do not tell me it's that idiot, Randal." Elise growled with full intent to bash a head in.
"Nope, it's me, Dani," the person finally spoke, "I was just wondering if you were coming for breakfast."
Oh good, it was just Dani who's at least not a total freak.
"I'll be down in a minute." Elise responded.
After getting dressed, she took Monica and went into the breakfast hall to feed Monica and herself. Everyone was already getting their food ready or already eating. Elise tried to ignore Randal's stupid stare as she got a simple bagel. She still wasn't too hungry and didn't want anything huge. Elise actually felt a little sick looking at Randal's breakfast of three pancakes and a whole banana. How the hell does someone eat that much and not puke it up a half an hour later? She sometimes eats large, but not like that. What the hell is this guy's deal?
"You're gonna eat all of that?" Tiffany rightfully commented.
Randal just gave his little weirdo grin and said, "I want to show Elise how much I can eat."
Elise rolled her eyes. Why are wackjobs like him allowed to be in close proximity to human beings? Because this guy cannot possibly be human. Randal came in a couple of weeks after her claiming to have heard of her "legendary feats" on her first few missions. He was a total moron from day one.
"Just came in! I literally do not care how much you can eat," Elise sighed, "In fact, I feel a little sick watching you eat like an animal."
Tiffany laughed at the grilling she gave him. What was wrong with it? He had it coming a long time.
"How many dating sims have you played," Dani pondered, "Because it seems like you're trying way too hard to win her over."
Tiffany then sneered, "And doing that is having the opposite effect."
The stupidest part was that Randal seemed like he wasn't even close to bothered. Elise had watched Tiffany play those stupid games. They were games where the goal was to find a boyfriend/girlfriend by a certain time limit. Elise almost gagged at some of the overly sappy scenes and the crappy characters. Some characters were okay while others made her want to punch them in the mouth. It would make sense that Randal's getting some of his crappy skills from those. Because she definitely wants to punch him in the mouth.
Randal's behavior also scared her a little. Elise had heard of cases where obsessive people do terrible things to keep their lovers to themselves even if said lovers are uninterested. It gave her a nervous feeling thinking about what would happen if Randal did for some reason go over the edge of sanity. What if he found out her secret? Would he leave her alone knowing she was not a girl? Would he get worse? Would he use it as leverage to manipulate her? So many fears and what-ifs about this guy, but Elise decided to leave it alone. There was no proof he would do this, and he hasn't yet. There were definitely more pressing matters at the moment.
Nate then began to talk to everyone about what would be Dani's first mission. Even though she was suspicious, she decided that Dani would need someone to at least show her the basics. Elise didn't know a damn thing when she first arrived, and Tiffany was nice enough to teach her the basics of this new world. If Dani did get a mission on her world, she would need someone to teach her. Tiffany and Nate had gone to her world a handful of times and everyone's grandmothers would know she isn't setting foot near Randal. So, Dani would probably be the best choice. Besides, it wasn't just Dani who was suspicious. Nobody could be completely trusted at the moment.
A/N
Yeah, I forgot to mention this in the previous chapter, but the reason I omitted Alphonse's part in the song is because it wasn't needed. It's kinda explained in this chapter, so maybe it was a good thing I forgot (lol). So, in this chapter, we got to get a glimpse of what's going on in Elise's mind during all of this madness. And more Randal.
Speaking of Alphonse, next chapter will be focused on him. I've been so focused on the world trotters that I haven't even gotten to our lovable cast yet. Our boy Al is finally gonna get the spotlight he missed in the first few chapters. Stay tuned and thanks for reading.
