The first trial was the 50-Meter Dash, and while each dash had two participants, they were really racing against the whole class.
Tenya's Quirk, [Engine] and Tsuyu's Quirk, [Frog], helped both of them greatly in crossing the track. Ochako used her own Quirk, [Zero-Gravity], to lighten her clothes in order to run faster. Yuuga used his [Navel Laser] Quirk to propel himself halfway across the track before pausing to regain his bearings before doing so again.
Mina produced white viscous acid from her feet to skate across the track and Oujiro used his large tail to jump across the track. Shoto simply propelled himself across the track on a sheet of ice from his right foot and Minoru took off the spheres on his head and used them to bounce across the track like mini-trampolines.
Izuku and Katsuki were next, Izuku using Kizaru's [Glint-Glint Fruit] to blink across the track in a beam of light while Katsuki flew with his explosions. Next were Monika and Sayori, with Monika running at inhuman speeds as she removed her personal gravity to become weightless while Sayori grew spider legs to increase her speed.
Yuri grew wings and flew across the track while Natsuki generated jets of flame from her feet causing her to fly across the track, followed closely by Saki, who copied Natsuki's Quirk and technique. However, while Natsuki's flames were red and orange, Saki's flames were light blue.
"Hey! You copied my Quirk Saki!" Natsuki comically complained as she recognized what the glasses-wearing girl had done. Saki simply rolled her eyes at Natsuki's antics.
"We're friends aren't we?" Saki asked rhetorically.
"Yeah but that doesn't make it fair!" Natsuki said, acting childishly.
Saiko donned angelic winged armor which she used to fly quickly across the track. Tari used a power-up to increase her speed and crossed the track with ease. Melony moved so fast with her Quirk [Eternal] it appeared as if she teleported.
"Wow she's fast!" the class with the exception of Axol said.
"Truly a fearsome Quirk, but an interesting one regardless." Spoke Fumikage as a shadowy bird-like entity named Dark Shadow emerged from his side and nodded in agreement as he was talking about Melony's Quirk.
Meggy glowed with cyan energy and then zipped across in the form of a laser before spotting as she grinned and flashed a peace sign to the others. Axol took out a sheet of paper and drew something with his staff pen. In a puff of smoke, the page transformed into a copy of Sonic's Blue Star from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, using it to soar across the track.
"A lot of you showed very prominent scores. But this was only the first trial." Aizawa said. "Follow me into the gym building. We're going to be focusing on Grip Strength.
The purpose of Grip Strength was that the students needed to see how strong their grip was. Izuku surprisingly crushed his gripping device without even meaning to, blushing in embarrassment. Monika followed Izuku's example by accidentally crushing her device with gravity.
Yuri transformed her arm into a gorilla's arm and squeezed the device, nearly breaking it.
Natsuki coated her hand in a gauntlet of pure stone while Sayori used her strength which was proportional to a spider to get a high score. Saiko summoned a gauntlet and squeezed the device. Tari summoned the Chaos Emeralds from Sonic and absorbed their energy. She broke her device when she gripped it. She giggled sheepishly afterward.
"Um, s-sorry..."
Shouji got 540 kilograms thanks to his multiple arms and Rikidou also followed closely, having ingested some sugar cubes to increase his strength to get 520 kilograms. Saki copied Shouji's Quirk, growing extra arms to get the same score.
Axol asked for a second grip device and then took his pen staff, Inkweaver. As soon as he touched the second grip device, he scribbled and in a flash, transmitted the device into a clone of Heihachi Mishima from Tekken, who grabbed the device and gripped it until it got a satisfactory score. He then let go and bowed before disappearing in a flash of colorful ink.
Melony crushed her device as well, much to everybody's shock.
"She has to be some sort of Goddess," Denki commented.
Next was the Standing Long Jump. Izuku used the power of Bellamy's [Spring-Spring Fruit] to bounce across but miscalculated how much power he put into it and went screaming into the distance.
"He cleared the fence, sir," Momo said, creating a pair of binoculars to get a read on her classmate. Aizawa sighed as he pinched his forehead while Katsuki and Yuuga used their Quirks to clear the sandbox.
Tsuyu leaped over easily, Ochako was able to float herself across, Oujiro bounded across with his tail, Rikidou did the same with sugar empowering his legs. Sero was able to shoot tape from his elbows to pull himself across without touching the ground, Mineta created a bundle of his hair spheres to shoot himself across and Saki copied Katsuki's Quirk to do the same as him.
Monika transformed into light particles to zip across, Sayori accessed the abilities of the Jumping Spider and leaped across the sandbox. Yuri leaped across the sandbox in a single bound while morphing her arms into bat wings and glided across. Natsuki formed a bridge of sand to simply walk across leaving her classmates dumbfounded.
"What? It's not against the rules to use my Quirk." She said in disbelief at her classmates' reactions.
"She has a point," Momo said with a nod of her head.
Meggy created eagle wings made of crimson energy and flapped them, flying across easily. Saiko summoned a bazooka and used it to rocket jump over the sandbox. As for Tari, she summoned Pit's wings from Kid Icarus and used them to flap across.
Axol drew a Propeller Spring from Sonic the Hedgehog and used it to bounce across. Melony took a running start and with a massive leap, sailed over the sandbox.
"S-Sorry, what did I miss?" Izuku asked as he had used Blueno's [Door-Door Fruit] to take a shortcut back to campus.
The Fourth trial; Repeated Side Steps was… unusual. Because of the limits, most of the students got only a normal score. Funnily enough, it was Minoru who scored the most by bouncing himself between two piles of his hair spheres.
"Damn, that little dwarf has got the moves," Meggy said. The only one who managed to match Minoru was Melony, who sidestepped so fast, she left afterimages.
"Amazing! "I can barely keep track of her!" Mina said with an excited smile at Melony's speed.
"That's Melony for ya." Saiko chuckled. "She's just full of surprises."
Then the test returned to the Ball Throw. Since Izuku had already done this as an example, he was exempt.
Monika removed the gravity of the ball getting a score of infinity. Sayori webbed her ball and swung it hard, getting 712.4 meters. Yuri increased the size of her arm and with her throw, got 836.8 meters. Natsuki summoned a cyclone blowing away the ball into the sky, earning 705.1 meters.
Katsuki launched his ball with an explosion at the apex of his throw, getting 705.2 meters.
"Tch, just a single inch short..." The blonde bomber grumbled in dissatisfaction.
Saiko summoned a catapult and placed the ball in it, sending it beyond the horizon. This was followed by Ochako, who also sent her ball flying out of orbit simply by removing its gravity, also getting the same score as Monika. Saki copied Katsuki's Quirk and also exploded her ball, but her distance was shorter at 704.9 meters.
"It looks like I need to work harder," Saki said, looking at her smoking hands.
Meggy tossed her ball into the air and then delivered a roundhouse kick to it, channeling her Quirk through it as the ball glowed with cyan energy before bolting off in a flash, getting her a distance of 1884.5 meters.
"Almost got to your score, Green!" The beanie-wearing girl giggled as Izuku blushed awkwardly. Ochako didn't know why, but she felt slightly jealous upon seeing that.
Saiko summoned power armor and threw her ball, she got a distance of 1982.4 meters.
"Looks like we're tied." The tall pink-haired girl smirked as she ruffled Izuku's head embarrassing the greenette.
Tari summoned the Home-Run Bat from Super Smash Bros and then threw her ball up before smacking it with the bat, sending it careening into the distance and earning her 934.2 meters. Axol simply used Inkweaver as a makeshift bat to send the ball flying, getting 734.8 meters.
"Inkweaver is also a magnificent weapon!" The axolotl-esque boy said proudly, holding his pen staff up like it was the Sword of Grayskull.
Melony channeled her ball with a type of golden energy and then threw it, causing it to fly into a beam of light before blinking out of existence, getting Infinity just like Ochako and Monika.
"Be grateful UA has plenty of balls on hand for these sorts of things," Aizawa said as he finished calculating everyone's final scores. "You all showed promise, but this still isn't fun and games, you all will be pushed to your limits. Are you prepared for that?"
The students all nodded in agreement with their teacher's words.
"Gotta give that hobo credit," Katsuki said, "He's tough but fair. But just who is he? He's obviously a pro, but I can't place the name or face."
"Actually, I recognize the name," Izuku admitted, "But he doesn't show himself in the media very often, considering them an interference to Hero Work. Shota Aizawa AKA The Erasure Hero: Eraserhead. His Quirk is called [Erasure], which can temporarily shut down other Quirks so long as he keeps a line of sight. I noticed he had eye drops in his coat, and that's what sparked my memory. He's actually known for expelling students from his class that he thinks has no potential."
"That sounds quite troubling," Momo said, having heard Izuku's words.
"Lucky that everyone here showed their potential. Otherwise, one of us would have definitely been axed." Monika commented while folding her arms.
Minoru could only gulp, thanking his lucky stars that his teacher had deemed his potential good enough.
As everyone began chatting amongst themselves, praising each other's Quirks and striking up friendships, Melony accompanied by Axol approached Izuku as he talked with Katsuki, Monika, Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki.
"Hey!" The green-haired girl asked, getting the freckled boy's attention. "You're the one who rescued me from that Sludge Villain!"
" Oh yeah! I remember you," Izuku said recognizing Melony
"Thanks again for saving Melony, she's my best friend. I don't know what I would have done without her." Axol said.
"That's Izuku for you! He's always there to help!" Sayori said cheerfully.
"I really hope we can be Heroes together!" Melony said with a smile, Izuku returning it. Natsuki clutched her chest as she was watching this.
"Dangit! Now we got TWO Pure Innocent Green-Haired People!"
Axol chuckled bashfully. "Yeah, Melony has always been an optimist. Despite how lazy she seems, she's actually very hard-working when she gets to it."
"Midoriya, was it?" A new voice spoke as everyone turned to see Shoto approaching."How is it someone as strong as you weren't considered for Recommendation?"
Katsuki scoffed. "You can't prove your chops by just getting in on recommendation. Everyone knows that."
"You really think it's that easy?" Shoto retorted. "Do you know how many promising students are offered recommendations each year? Ida was also offered a recommendation due to his family history but wound up falling just short, so he took the Entrance Exam instead. Those who are offered recommendations still have to prove they deserve it. And even if they fail, that doesn't prevent them from entering UA."
Izuku gulped when Shoto turned his attention back to him.
"But I don't remember seeing you at the Recommendation Exam, and I'm pretty sure you would stand out. And yet you and quite a few of the other students here are easily blowing the rest of us out the water. That much natural talent, and yet..."
"You got something to say?" Katsuki said defensively, his hands already blazing. "Yeah, we're talented, but we worked our asses off to get this strong! I don't take kindly to those who think they can only skate by without putting in the work!"
Shoto narrowed his eyes, grabbing Bakugo's wrist with his right hand, causing it to frost over but the explosive blonde barely even flinched.
"Half of my Quirk is not truly mine. I will never use it, except to counter the part that is."
Katsuki immediately grabbed Shoto's other hand, looking ready to rip him a new one.
"You think you can become a Hero with only half a Quirk, you self-righteous piece of shit!?"
Just then, both of them felt their Quirks disappearing, everyone turning to see Aizawa glaring, his eyes flaring bright red.
"Knock each other about in mock battles all you like, but there will be no violence against other students during normal school hours. I'd prefer not to use my Quirk too much, since it gives me a serious case of dry eye." Aizawa sternly said as Katsuki and Shoto let go of each other.
"Phew, that could have been a disaster..." Sayori sighed.
"Alright, now that's out of the way everyone please head back to the classroom to start your classes," Aizawa instructed the class, before turning to take his leave. It was there he noticed Toshinori who had been watching the tests from nearby.
"Your protege Midoriya shows great promise. He practically demolished all the physical tests. Then again, I remember you doing the same back from the records Nezu showed me of your time here at UA." Aizawa told Toshinori
"It's not like you to be so light-hearted," All-Might said, "I remember last year you expelled an entire class of students."
"The ones I let back in showed growth and had taken my words to heart. However, everybody in this class shows great promise from the start. If they keep this up, we'll likely have ourselves a strong new generation of Heroes."
"No doubt about that." Toshinori chuckled. "I mean, Monika's Quirk lets her control the Four Fundamental Forces, it's insane how powerful most of them are!"
Aizawa rolled his eyes and left, turning back to the students as they all interacted with each other.
As Izuku, Katsuki, Saki, Monika, Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki left school, they were approached by Tenya.
"That was exemplary work on the tests today. It really showed how far I have to go." He said.
"Heh, coming to see who the real superstars are, Four-Eyes?" Katsuki said smugly, only for Monika to elbow him in the side as he grunted and gave her a dirty look as she ignored him and turned her attention to Tenya.
"Hey, Iida, I have heard about recommendations from Momo, is this true?" Monika asked.
"Sadly, it is," Tenya admitted. "Only eight students who receive a recommendation can follow through on it. To determine who deserves that right, a special test is set up. I was just behind the eighth-place finisher, so I had to make do with the Entrance Exam. And things certainly didn't get any easier once we were successfully enrolled. I was surprised by Aizawa-Sensei's judgment."
"It's not like he doesn't have precedent," Izuku noted. "Even if you're Quirkless, if you don't have any physical capability you'd be creamed by the first Villain you fought."
"Most Villains are weak sauce in the body department," Katsuki added. "So they tend to rely on their powers."
"HEY!" Ochako called out, running up to the group while being followed by Meggy, Saiko, and Tari. "Wait up you guys! Are you going to the station? We'll join you."
"Hey, it's the girl who can throw farther than you, Deku," Katsuki said with a smirk, making it clear he wasn't going to let the fact that his freckled friend got flustered around Ochako go so easily.
"And that gamer girl! Hey, Tari!" Sayori said, waving Tari over.
"Why do you constantly call Midoriya a name that means 'Useless'?," Tenya asked Katsuki. "Is it meant to be ironic?"
"Actually," Izuku clarified, "When we were kids, Kacchan's idea was that it combined my first name with 'Dekiru', meaning "You Can Do It!". But he still calls me 'Useless Deku' whenever I screw up."
"But your Quirk is so cool! You can use, like, those Devil Fruits from One Piece, right?" Meggy asked as Izuku nodded.
"Really? That's so cool!" Ochako said in excitement. "I bet you'll be even stronger than All-Might!"
"Fun fact, I actually trained with All Might," Izuku admitted. Needless to say, Tenya was impressed upon hearing this.
"The #1 Pro Hero? Truly, you are someone of great renown!" He said.
"Nah, it's not really all that special..." Izuku said, trying his best to be humble.
As Izuku, Katsuki and the Salvato Sisters went over the training they did at Dagobah, the growing group of friends headed off for the station. They were soon joined by Eijirou, who quickly hit it off with Katsuki, Mina, who soon was chatting up a storm with the Salvato Sisters, Fumikage, who was pleased that the others indulged his chuunibyou nature, Melony and Axol.
"So what do you think they'll have us do tomorrow?," Eijirou asked, "That's when the real battle begins."
"Knowing UA it will likely be a mock trial," Fumikage suggested, "But with live targets instead of the robots we had to face in the Entrance Exam."
"Which would likely mean fighting against each other," Izuku noted, "All Might mentioned that part of the curriculum involves getting into the mindset of villains, in order to more effectively fight them."
"Tomorrow's gonna be exciting, that's for sure!" Natsuki beamed.
"Yay!" Melony cheered.
