A/N: So, I lied. This story just refuses to end. It will probably just stay in Loki's POV, although I may add a few other POVs in the next couple chapters, specifically the other missions to get the stones and Loki and Hela's conversation. After that, I'll stay in Loki's POV. However, I still want to thank everyone right now, instead of only at the end. :) I want to thank you all for all of your support, especially QueenAnnabeth 18 and Gloryp!
Gloryp is the reason I didn't leave this as a one-shot and QueenAnnabeth 18 has reviewed every chapter since chapter two, so thank you both! I wish I knew everyone who favorited and followed this story, but my notifications are weird and I only get them half of the time. Thank you to all the guests, Dream Plane and Wika0304, who also reviewed!
@QueenAnnabeth 18. No, it's not bad that you wanted to kill Thor over Loki, I'm the same way. :)
@Guest, the 15th review. No, I didn't know that, thanks for sharing! I wonder if Lævateinn is the sword that Kid Loki gave Loki at the end of Loki: episode five? Also in Norse Mythology, maybe Lævateinn is a shape shifter like Loki and that's why nobody knows what it is? I don't know, just a theory...
Onto the story!
When the hour is nigh
And hopelessness is sinking in
When the wolves all cry
To feel they're not worth hollering
When your eyes are red
And emptiness is all you know

Loki jolted upwards, water streaming down his body as he stared at the orange Soul stone in his hand. Thor was... No. No, this had to be a- a trick. Thor could not be dead. That was irrational, insane, impossible. Thor- there was absolutely no way that Thor was dead! Any minute and the big oaf would reappear with that ridiculous happiness surrounding him and everything would be okay.
So he waited. And waited. And waited. But Thor didn't come back. Maybe he had already returned. Yet, even as he put in the coordinates, the denial slipped away.
His hands and knees slammed into the time machine, but he hardly noticed.Thor was dead. Thor was dead. Thor was dead because Loki had failed and Thor was dead. He heard what was being said, yet it wasn't registering. Until Bruce asked,
"Where's Thor?"
"Loki, where's Thor?" He opened his mouth to answer, closing it when the words caught in his throat. He's dead. His vision was blurring and his face was wet. He stared at the floor, trying to wrestle his magic back under control. He could feel it boiling beneath the skin, ready to burst. Thor was dead.
Green exploded, destroying everything it could reach. Voices were shouting in surprise. He chucked the Soul stone into the middle of the room.
"You want to know where Thor is? You want to know where Thor is?!" He screeched. Loki shook his head, clenching his fists.
"Why don't you go to Vormir and ask Redskull where he is. Or perhaps his body is still at the bottom of that cursed cliff!" Another wave of green hit the room. Thor was dead.
"Cliff? You killed him!"
"Redskull?"
"Before you go, you owe me a hug." It seemed to easy. Defeat and surrender were not in Thor's nature. Yet, he was right. Loki did owe Thor a hug at the very least before he left him alone. Again.
He should have seen it coming, he should have known better.
"I'm sorry." Before Loki could figure out why Thor was sorry, his brother picked him up, turning so that Thor was the one next to the cliff. Loki desperately reached for his magic to stop him, but Thor was already falling.
"NO! YOU WITLESS OAF, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO ME! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!"
Loki gasped as Wanda left his head, tumbling to the ground. Thor was dead. His brother was dead.
"You have the stones. Just, you all figure it out."
He turned, leaving the room silently. There will be no barren moon, no realm, no crevice where he cannot find you. You think you know pain? You will long for something as sweet as pain. Even dead, the titan had kept his promise. The two people he cared about most, dead. He still had Nebula, but she wasn't his mother, who had taught him magic, who had, at times, seemed like the only person who believed in him. Seemed like the only person who accepted him. She was not his brother, who was unbearably naive and thickheaded. She was not his brother, who always supported him, even when it seemed he didn't care, even when Thor wasn't there.
She was his sister, who had lost even more than he. She was his sister, who he needed to protect, because she was all he had left. He remembered every death like a sword running him through. Which, once, had literally been the case. The emptiness as he let go of the spear, of Thor, of Asgard, of Odin's approval. The guilt of leaving Nebula and Gamora behind. The loss of his mother. The regret of his last words to her. He remembered the relief of saving his brother, the guilt of leaving him. His feelings regarding Odin- Father's death were complicated.
Then there was Thor. The sun might as well have been extinguished. You'd think he'd be used to it by now. Is this how Thor felt every time he died? How his mother felt when she was told he was dead? A scream of grief ripped through his throat as a green torrent erupted again. A SNAP echoed throughout the building. It didn't matter. Everyone would get everything back. Except for him. Asgard would remain gone. His mother would remain gone. Thor would still be dead.
"You know, I had nearly forgotten how destructive you can be." Nebula.
"I had nearly forgotten that you can sneak up on me." Then, as fast as it came, the light tone left, replaced by the all consuming grief.
"It's done. The SNAP. The witch, she used her magic to do it."
"How is she?" Nebula chuckled, a rare sound coming from her. Loki looked up at her in surprise. What is so funny about this?
"Always asking after others, even when it is clear you are the one in pain." Oh.
Loki was attempting to steady his heart rate, his breathing and his magic, which was bursting out at random. He was failing miserably. The brand burned against his bare back. Child of Thanos. In a months time, he would be leading the Chituari against Earth.
"It must take a lot of control to not heal that." Nebula. Sister. The one good thing that came out of living in this place.
"Well, one must adapt to their circumstances." He nodded to her arm, the new metal glinting in the dull lighting.
"It's better to focus on others pain than to focus on my own. Or so I tell myself."
"They'll be celebrating soon."
"They'll have good reason to."
"But not us."
"No." He shook his head in emphasis.
"I was such a fool." She stayed silent, knowing it was better to simply be there.
"So many years, pushing him away because I thought it would protect him. Distancing myself, hoping that they would just leave me, save themselves from the destruction that follows me. I told myself, if they do not know about Thanos, then Thanos couldn't hurt them. That if he never hunted the titan down, he would be safe. I could have told them from the beginning. I could have told them where and who sent me and we could have killed him. But I was ashamed. A fool." And now Thor's dead. Because of me. Everywhere you go, there is war, ruin and death. Perhaps she would have said something, perhaps not, but just then, an explosion rocked the room. It wasn't his magic. What in the Nine?! The explosions kept coming, even as Loki threw up several shields.
When the shelling stopped at last, Loki found his magic was the only thing keeping the building from collapsing on them.
"Nebula!" A cough from somewhere to his left answered. Thank the AllFather she's alive. Somehow, he managed to stumble over to where she lay. There was blood everywhere. He soon saw why. A large, 10 foot rebar was protruding her gut. No. This cannot be happening. I can't lose you too. He reached for his reserves to cut the bar, but she stopped him.
"You need to save your magic."
"Beg your pardon? Sister don't be foolish."
"Loki, think! Who would attack us right now? Who would want to stop us?!"
"We killed him. No, we killed him. He's dead!"
"We went back in time!" He cursed as it dawned to him just what she meant.
"Well, I can't just leave you!"
"It won't be worth living if he wins! Go!" I am not leaving another sibling behind!
"I'm not going to leave you here!" I can't. She smiled.
"Then I'll make it easier for you." What? He was stuck in a timeloop. Just like Thor, before he could process the words, she was gone. The blaster shot one shot, straight through her temple. No. No, no nonononononononono. Why did his siblings feel the need to sacrifice themselves? Thanos. He had to find the titan. You will long for something as sweet as pain. I'm not the only one who will be longing for pain.
He teleported out of the Avengers facility, where, sure enough, Thanos and his army were waiting. The army was still assembling, but Thanos, Thanos was sitting. Waiting.
"Thanos!"
"So this is the future."
"Not yours."
"Isn't it? My son, I know what it feels like to lose. Turns the legs to jelly. Dread it. Run from it. I ask you, to what end? Destiny arrives all the same. And now it's here. Or should I say, I am."
"For now. You know, it's funny, really. You kept your word. Everything and everyone I loved is dead. It's funny that that shall be your undoing. You made a mistake. Everybody does, at one point or another, so don't take it personally. You see, Thanos, I've learned things since you last saw me. Heard things. One quote, I don't remember whose, has stuck with me ever since you made me that promise. That I shall 'long for something as sweet as pain.' But what will you do when there is nothing left to take? 'The most dangerous man, is the man that has nothing to lose.' You know what that makes me?" A ball of pure energy erupted in his palm.
"Your sunset. If it ever did, the sun will never shine on you again. Your glorious purpose, the mission will be torn away from you. You should have let me die when you had the chance." He summoned his armor, blasting Thanos with the energy. The titan deflected it easily, but Loki was relentless. Trust my rage. The battle had started around them and Loki could care less. He had one target, one endgame. Kill Thanos.
It seemed Wanda had a similar goal.
"You took everything from me." Get in line.
"I don't even know who you are."
"You will." Her eyes glowed red as they both shot energy at the mad titan, pushing him back several yards.
"I must say, I thought you would break under all the grief and guilt. You truly are like me. It's a shame you don't see truth."
"Break. Oh Thanos. I am broken. I was broken long before I met you. The difference between us, is I embrace the brokeness. You, on the other hand, you are blinded by it. You think that you have to kill half of all life because your people died. You kill and torture and you call it mercy. You wipe out people's entire families, innocent families, then leave criminals, monsters alive. You throw entire planets into chaos, leaving people without jobs, jobs without people, children without parents, countries without leaders and you call it balance. There was no balance. There was panic, ruin, chaos and death. You will never win."
"You're right. They will never be grateful. I thought once the deed was done, they would see truth. Obviously, I was mistaken. I will use the Infinity stones to shred this universe to it's last atom, then use them to make the universe new again. To make a grateful universe." The titan truly was mad.
Before he and Wanda could retaliate, the witch was thrown back as both Gamora and Nebula attacked. Loki cursed. They were either from 2012 or 2014, meaning it was before they left Thanos.
"Traitor."
"Sister."
"You aren't my brother!" I never abandoned my siblings.
"What do you hope to accomplish here?" He said in between blows from there swords. Is this how Thor always felt? Trying to stop him, trying to help, even when it was clear Loki didn't want it? Pleading and begging to understand as he attacked with rage and hurt? It was both emotionally and physically exhausting. He didn't want to hurt them, meanwhile they were both attacking him mercilessly. They wouldn't kill him, however, they would injure if given the chance. He had lost sight of the titan.
"You people just couldn't live with your own failure!"
"Failure? We never wanted him to win! You both are part of those people!"
"Your lies and Silver-tongue can't help you." Why were they acting this way?
"He kills you." The faltered. Nearly to slight to notice, but they faltered all the same.
"We can kill him. Together."
"Or we can kill you." Were the really that angry with him?
"I'm sorry that I left. But is this really what you want? Do you want there to be more people like you, no parents, no family, no hope? Is that what you want?"
"We want to please him."
"He's a monster."
"So are we."
"We don't have to be. We can change, we do change. All three of us." He was so close to convincing them, he could see it in their eyes. They're afraid. Afraid of betraying Thanos in case he wins. Afraid of letting anyone in, because last time they did that, he left. This was your doing.
"Please."
"You're lying. You said Thanos killed us, yet Nebula was alive a couple hours ago. Where is she now?" Then I'll make it easier on you.
"She was in the building that your dear father just blew to Helheim."
"You left her." Nebula tapped the eyepiece where the memory file was kept.
"I saw it."
"Then you know this wasn't what she wanted. She wanted him dead. You want him dead. So can you stop trying to kill me for five seconds and just think."
"We've had two years to think. We thought you were dead." What was with people's obsession with the fact he 'died'?
"Well, I'm not. Can we please move on? We all know that if we were actually trying to kill each other, at least one of would be dead, so can we do something productive, like stopping Thanos?" Nebula's sword stopped at the back of his throat, crossed with Gamora's, which was in front.
"Yes, it seems you would be dead." The swords glowed green, the tips stopping at the wielder's throats. He smirked.
"Yes, of course. I have a plan." After he told them said plan, he jumped back into the fray, slicing Outriders and Chituari alike. Where was the Black Order? More importantly, where was the Infinity gauntlet? They could not let Thanos get it. All three questions were answered within next ten minutes.
Black Dwarf was dead, killed by the Hulk. Proxima Midnight was fighting Natasha and someone in an Ironman suit. Corvus Glaive was battling the Captain and Ebony Maw was chasing some kid in a red suit who was shooting a white sticky substance from his palms. Said kid also happened to have the gauntlet. Loki cloaked himself, running towards the boy while killing the Outriders that caught his scent.
Ironman beat him to it, taking the gauntlet from the kid before flying off. It would appear that their goal was a little old van. He reached out with his mind, not quite entering the others minds, simply brushing past to catch their most forefront thoughts. Thousands of voices were blaring in his head, so Loki focused on the helpful sounding ones.
Step one:Draw Thanos away from the van.
Get to the van. We need to get to van. Okay. the van is where the big purple villain is. Of course it is. This is just my luck. The lady said we have to return the stones and we can't even get to the Time Machine!
Yes, this was just his luck. He needed to get to Thanos now. He released the cloaking spell, opting instead to teleport. The titan screamed as the energy of six Infinity stones coursed through his veins. No! In a split second he was in front of the titan, green wrapping around the gauntlet. No, not just green. Green, red and... yellow and orange? The red was coming from Wanda. Strange's color was orange. Yet the second-rate was nowhere near them. And why was there yellow? Then the gauntlet turned ever so slightly and Loki saw the Mind and Soul stone were glowing. Helping them.
It then occurred to him that Loki had 'lost what he loved most' for the Soul stone and if he did not wish for the Soul stone to be used for a certain purpose, it would obey him. As for why the Mind stone was assisting them, he had absolutely no idea. Perhaps it has something to do with her powers? Of it were her powers, then did each person have a connection with at least one stone? It doesn't matter, if we can get even one stone away from Thanos, he cannot snap. So, it the Soul stone obeys me, can I call it?
Come.
The Soul stone zipped towards him, circling his head. It vibrated, smelling just slightly of ozone. Thor. An everlasting exchange. Was his soul in the Soul stone?
"What- How?"
"It would seem that Soul doesn't like you, almighty Thanos." This plan better work, or we are all dead.
"You see, Thanos, contrary to popular belief, the Infinity stones were not made at the beginning of time. At least, not all of them. Reality was made before the universe. The first Dark Elf was a powerful sorcerer, able to twist reality. Well, actually reality was constantly changing, the Dark Elf merely was powerful enough to somewhat control it. All magic traces back to the Reality stone, one way or another. He tired of darkness and decided to bend reality, making the first light that we know as Suns. In death, his soul transformed into the Aether, embodying the element of Reality. His people kept it for centuries, which was why Malekith was as powerful as he was. The stones that they used to become the Kurse were shards of the Aether. Hence why they were nearly indestructible." The Reality stone left the gauntlet, joining the Soul stone where it was circling his head. Ebony Maw reached for the Soul stone, only for the body to drop lifeless as he asked the Soul stone to take his Soul. Master of Death.
"Time came next, a brother of Dormammu. Time was constantly changing, freezing or going backwards or forwards. The Dark entities attacked the new light, the new life. Dormammu's brother changed his mind and wanted to preserve this new life, Dormammu wanted to take it. The two fought, the brother eventually pushed Dormammu back to the Dark Dimension. However, time had to be stabilized, but the brother was close to death from his battle. So he embodied what we know as Time." The Time stone was with him.
"As I'm sure you can guess, Space was not a thing before the Space stone existed. Then again, people were much less afraid of falling. Space was embodied by an entity from the Quantum Realm, Power by the first Asgardian, Mind by the very first Scarlett Witch and Soul, Soul was embodied by Lady Death herself. Hence why it can take souls." All six Infinity stones were circling his head now, Thanos looking at the gauntlet utterly flabbergasted.
"My point, Thanos, is that you are extremely gullible." The world around him rippled in green as Gamora and Nebula stabbed the titan in the throat. Well, Thanos was dead, the Black Order was dead, all that left was the army. Ebony Maw still lay dead at his feet, the Soul stone was rightfully his, that hadn't been an illusion. His magic was nearly spent from faking the energy around him and masking the energy around Thanos. People were staring at him.
"Okay. There is no way we could have beat you in New York." Stark said.
"Don't celebrate yet, we still have an army to take care of."
"Indeed. Now, give me the Soul stone." The world washed red, Thanos reappearing in perfect health. Why did Reality hate him so much?
A/N: I know, I'm cruel. Thanos just doesn't want to die. Next chapter will probably be a bit shorter, but not short enough to combine with this one. I actually have absolutely no idea what is going to happen next chapter, so it may be a bit.
