Issei stared up a mountain in confusion as Serzechs wished them the best and went back to his Maou duties. He was standing right next to a large obelisk of obsidian stone covered in runes he could barely see against the dark surface.
"Place your hand against the stone and image filling it with your will to protect young lord," Yoshimura said standing next to him. "The actual family home is at the top of the mountain but this is the entrance key for those not tied to wards yet, in case of emergency for the pure bloods."
Looking up the mountain and seeing a little blip on it's peak of darkness against the setting sun he shrugged and placed his hand on the stone. Just like the King Statue this one glowed green all along the runes carved into it and a bubble covering the entire mountain glowed for just a moment. Stepping back he looked at Yoshimura.
"Now how do we get up th...," he started to say but suddenly the entire group of Rias, her peerage, Yoshimura, and himself were in front of a imposing castle carved of obsidian with doors larger then his house...his house what about his parents...he started thinking before the doors swung open slowly. "Holy Rias Tits," he nearly shouted as Rias lightly smacked him on the side of the head. Looking around he saw no other way up here but sheer cliffs on all sides and assumed it was designed that way for a reason.
"Why all the way up here?"
"The house of Ghoul had many enemy's and still does," Yoshimura answered. "Many do not like us hunting their strays or...percuring their suicidal kin to live. I'm going to go fetch my wards while you look around if that's alright young Lord Ghoul."
"Uh...sure. No need to call me Lord. I'm just a kid who likes...," glancing sideways at Rias as she led her peerage inside he sighed. She had the most beautiful pillow like butt from this angle...anyways. "I'll likely need your help quite a bit. All those pureblood politics and all this being a head of a house...I'm not that smart."
"You will be. The first step is to wisdom is acknowledging you know nothing," he responded kindly with a pat on the shoulder. "I'm to teach you it all and help you make a name for yourself. On that note when I get back with my wards I'm hoping your consider them as possible peerage members. They are wonderful help around my coffee shop but they are young still and might gain some standing from being in your peerage. It's not so easy for the run of the mill Ghoul to live out in devil society and it will protect them and you in the long run. I've had a habit over the years of protecting the orphans of our people."
"Young, what are you forty, fifty?" asked Issei as he considered what the man said. He never knew his Grandparents but the man looked like a grandfather.
"Nearly nine thousand," Yoshimura said back with an amused smile at Issei doing his best impression of a goldfish, "I must remind you that a human understanding of us will only get you so far now my very young lord. I was banished during a revival of the obessesion with blood purity about a thousand years ago. It's been a long time since I've seen this castle."
"Allllrrrright. Yeah. How about we invite the survivers of the House here. It looks like it has enough room to keep my old town in and I don't need that much space do I?"
"We can look into that after we get the place squared away if you wish," he responded with a new look in his eye. "That would save countless lives. We would need to announce it somehow. We can talk it over when I get back. I'll be just a few minutes."
"Yeah, no problem. I'm gonna go see, I guess our new house," Issei said as he followed the group into the large set of doors that were designed for giants as far as he could tell. The moment he found Rias he smiled as it looked like the first room was some kind of lounge and all the peerage had colapsed on the couches and promptly fell asleep. He guessed it had been a long day. He sat carefully next to Rias and layed down with his head in her lap. She just smelled divine for some reason.
--
Waking up to a softly mumbled voice he quickly looked around.
"Wha...what is it...five more minutes mother...," he mumbled as his eyes open and he jumped a little still laying partially on Rias but slobbering and bitting her leg far more then he probably should be. He was a tiny bit hungry he realized to his growing horror and she smelled wonderful to his new senses. Quickly getting up and heading over to the new arrivals he tried his best not to think about it.
"Hello Lord Ghoul I'd like you to meet my young wards," said Yoshimura softly as he led him and the two new arivals to a small side room. "Touka Kirishima," he gestured to a beautiful young woman with medium breasts Issei noticed while trying to remember Rias reminders that staring was noticed. He looked up to her now slightly annoyed blue eyes with parted shorter blue hair covering one of them. "And Hinami Fueguchi," he then gestured to a more Koneko sized woman with short brown hair framing her kind brown eyes with a little pin holding up her hair around her heart shaped face.
"So nice to meet you both, please assist me in this very new and confusing situation," he said as he quickly bowed and wiped the droll from his chin. "It'll be nice to have some more people around like me...well me now." He sneaked a peak at Hinami's chest as he did just checking and found them a little bit bigger then Koneko's to his delight.
Looking back up he found them shocked as they bowed in turn. "We were expecting someone different," Touka said at his confused look. "Most Pureblood lords of the Houses are...far more prim and proper."
Issei smiled easily as he responded. "I was a human," he blanched at the harsh look from Yoshimura. "At least as far as I knew," he quickly added. "Untill recently and was only newly reincarnated into the Gremory house by Rias."
A look of understanding crossed their faces although a hint a scowl still sat on Touka's face. "The Gremorys are known for being a bit...different...then other family's. Treating their peerage like extended family members," Hinami said something for the first time. She looked a little more comfortable now then she did after first arriving.
"Yoshimura said you might be want to be part of a peerage? I'm gonna be honest I don't know too much but I'd like to know more about that process. I was...dead when I was changed and don't know much but the pieces and seeing Rias resurrect Asia." Seeing their looks of confusion he clarified, "Rias healer and bishop, she's really nice. I'm sure you'll get along. No matter what happens your welcome to stay here. I heard a little about the old house and throwing people out for something something as stupid as that is beyond me." As his rambling ended he scratched the back of his head and smiled at them before cringing at his own impromptu speech.
"I'd like that," said the small voice of Hinami as she nudged Touka who's eyes had softened somewhat but still seemed to be trying to drill a hole through his head with her eyes. Glancing at her Touka seemed to deflate a little as she nodded.
"It would be a great opportunity," she reluctantly said as she nudged her feet together. "It would be nice to have a more permanent home."
Yoshimura sighed happily as he put a hand on both their shoulders. "If and when you decide to make someone part of your peerage," he started as he walked over and grabbed the case of pieces from a desk nearby. "You need to use the Kings Eyes. It's alot like the monument outside and the Kings Obelisk. Focus. Focus is the key. Focus on seeing what someone is worth in pieces and you will see the pieces they would cost floating over their heads. The ones that glow the brightest are the ones they are best suited for. And then you offer the pieces with your will and they are made. Some people like to add words but it's really personal preference," as he finished his own impromptu speech he handed the case to Issei.
Focusing again with his eyes flaring black and green like before he stared at the two new possible peerage member, his possible peerage members he realized still shocked from how his life had changed so much. Had it really only been one day. He hadn't even decided what do to do about anything yet. But maybe this would be a good step. Surrounding himself with Rias and her own peerage, and new family in his own peerage. People like how he was now. People who had been abused by assholes like the higher up devils who looked at people based on power alone. Not on heart. Or love. Or beauty. Or Gazongas. Well maybe the last two was him obsessing over making his own harem. Anyways.
Focusing back on the task at hand he saw the floating pieces over each of their heads. It looked like Touka was best suited to being two Knights, probably a speed attacker then. And Hinami was best suited for two Rooks, just like Koneko he realized, tough and strong then. As he was about to add them to his peerage and make them the first of his new...hopefully...family like peerage he noticed Urns on a cart behind them with pieces floating above them. One was suited to a queen, two were suited for four pawns each, and the last two were suited for a bishop each. A full peerage of pieces was in front of him and he was confused as all. People couldn't fit in Urns.
"Yoshimura," he asked still confused, "What are the Urns for?"
Looking sad he stood up straighter and replied with deep sorrow, "Those are the ashes of both of their parents and my daughter. Their parents died hunting a stray five years ago and my daughter died in the last Great War. I was unable to recover my wife's remains but I was able to recover the others. We wished to put them in the family tomb now that we have access to it. If you'd allow that my lord?" As he said the last of this he bowed deeper then Issei had ever seen before.
'What a horrid thing to have to ask' Issei thought as he realized how much the separation from the family home and the hunt for what they, he, needed to survive had affected them. 'Can I give up part of my dream to help?'
He looked at the new people he had just met and saw the sadness, and frustration for Touka, in his possible family's eyes. He could smell the tears as they fell down Hinami's face as she looked down hiding her eyes. The salt stung his nose as he considered what he could do for these broken families and what he would have to give up.
Rias would never look at him again the same way if he didn't help. His parents would be ashamed of him if he could and didn't. And most importantly. He would have to live with it. He couldn't bring back everyone but he could help these people. Those abandoned by the House they came from. And maybe the daughter was hot.
Holding up the case he opened it and looked at the pieces as they floated up in front of him and glowed brightly at what he decided to do.
"I'll never get my harem this way," was all he said as the pieces glowed brightly and shot toward their respective recipients. "I have to save who I can."
"Wait what are you...not all at once!," yelled Yoshimura as he saw all the pieces race forward. "It might kill you!"
Issei only had time to look at him in horror before the pieces hit their marks. "What?"
