Jade wasn't going to tell the poor kid no. The way those wide, pleading blue eyes looked up at her with such helplessness...

She was unable to say no.

It would be a tragedy to say no.

Looks like the fire was burning and it was her job to fan the flame.

...

Jade had agreed with Demetri on one thing that day.

She would not go back to the dojo.

It had nothing to do with the insults and battering.

Jade was used to that.

Instead, it was scheduling that prevented her attendance. Jade had to work and Karate interfered. She didn't really need the classes anyways, it's why she kept a knife on her.

But when Eli, her sweet chiqui, somehow found her apartment that night and was at her door in tears...

"Please. I don't want to be me anymore."

"I like you, chiqui. Why change?"

"I'm tired of society telling me w-what I'm supposed to be because of some... shit on my face."

Jade nodded, accepting the answer and brought him inside the rundown apartment.

"Welcome to the life of a punk, kid."

...

Eli took the chance to drink in the living space. It wasn't hard finding the girls address, he kinda already knew it. The address was on the front of the journal she used almost every day and after glancing at it so much... it was in his head.

The apartment was a studio layout, meaning everything was in one large room. The walls held posters of random bands, fabric flags, and newspaper clippings that held no rhyme or reason. An unmade mattress was shoved in the corner near the window and clothes were strewn around mixed with boxes of hair dye and hair spray. A few bean bag chairs were in the room and a guitar sat up in the corner, music sheets strewn around.

Looking over at Jade, he saw the girl walk over to the kitchen counter and put out her cigarette. He didn't know she smoked.

After Jade had thrown the cigarette in a box of butts, she walked past Eli and motioned him to follow her onto the bean bags.

"So, you want to change, chiqui?" Jade reached to a scratched up bedside table. "Who do you want to be?" She pulled out a box of cigarettes and lit up another stick.

Eli coughed a bit at the smoke.

"Y-you." Jade raised an eyebrow, blowing out a small puff of smoke and watched it dissipate before answering.

"You can't be me."

"W-why not?" Eli asked dejectedly.

"Because I'm me, mi chiqui dulce." Jade gestured to the boy with her empty hand. "You're Eli."

Eli thought for a moment.

"Where are your parents?"

"Who the fuck knows anymore?" The mint haired girl kicked a box of hair dye and watched it hit the wall. "I'm an emancipated minor." Eli's eyes watched the hair dye and then flickered over to the teens hair.

"I know who I want to be."

Jade offered the cigarette to Eli who hesitated. Nervous blue eyes flickered to bold green.

Eli nervously shook his head and denied the stick.

Jade smiled.

"Let's do it."

...

"So, remember. Sleep on your side and the hair will stay for a long time. All you have to do is catch the fly aways in the morning and you'll be golden, chiqui." Jade stood behind Eli as he sat on a wooden stool in her kitchen. She was finishing up his final spike. "When you wanna do it again, remember to wash and then blow dry. The hawk will stay longer if your hair is clean."

Eli felt amazing. Not only was the girl of his dreams playing with his hair but he was starting to feel like he was breaking away from his deformity. Jade had patiently listened to the teen as she finished her cigarette and when she threw away the butt, they went to the store and bought the hair dye and products.

He was feeling on top of the fucking moon.

Jade stepped away from Eli and looked at the spikes with a nod.

"Your hair isn't long enough for spikes like mine, but the fan look will work for now." Jade walked in front of the sitting teen and smirked. "Lookin' kinda hot there, chiqui. What am I gonna do with you?" Eli felt the familiar rampage of his heart at the closeness of the girl.

"I-I, uh. I-" Jade snorted.

"You can change your look all you want, but your attitude is the hardest part." Jade took a step closer to the kid and pushed his stool back. She put her hands on the counter, either side of the teen. The new blue-head leaned back and felt his face flare up. "What's the matter, mis ojos? Does my proximity...bother you?"

Eli took a sharp breath as the girl straddled him on the stool and wrapped her arms around his neck, her cigarette dangling from her fingers.

"Put your hands on my hips," Jade whispered lowly in his ear. Trembling hands lifted high onto her hips. She chuckled sending shivers down Eli's spine. "Lower, chiqui."

Eli swallowed molasses as he moved his hands to basically cover Jade's rear.

"Eso es todo, mi chiqui." Jade's hands tugged on the lower spikes on the back of Eli's neck. "He estate pensando en ti..." Her lips grazed the boys ear lobe and pulled, making him hiss. "Me sace de quiche... la caída de la ley de tímido."

Jade could hear Eli's heavy breathing and feel the trembling through his body. She glanced over at the cigarette in her hand. Pulling back she looked the boy in the eyes.

"La llama dentro de ti.." Jade lifted the cigarette to her mouth and let out a puff of smoke in Eli's face. "Deja que se queme"

And she put the stick out on his arm.

He screamed.

...

"H-holy fuck!" Jade rolled her eyes at the boy's exclaims from her bathroom. She was throwing away all the boxes from the transformation while the kid freaked out over the injury. Eli walked out of the bathroom in disbelief and pointed at the burn. "You fucking burnt me!"

"Yeah, I did." Jade smirked and grabbed the box of cigarettes. "Wanna give me a matching one?"

"Hell no, you crazy bitch!" Eli walked over to the girl and snatched the box away. He shoved it into one of the counter drawers in the kitchen and pointed at the girl. "You are never smoking around me again." Jade's smirk only deepened.

"Yes, sir, Mr. Moskowitz." Eli rolled his eyes and stormed past Jade to grab some paper towels.

"Where's your first aid kit?"

"Cabinet to the left of the fridge."

Eli opened the cabinet only to fine bottles of liquor and looked back at the girl in shock.

"Why am I still surprised at this point? I should really stop being surprised." Jade nodded in agreement and pushed next to the boy. Grabbing a bottle of half empty vodka, she pulled Eli to the sink.

"What are you doing?" Asked Eli distrustfully as she filled up two shot glasses. Rolling her eyes, Jade pushed a shot into Eli's hands and held one up herself.

"Shots, pendejo. To new beginnings," Jade toasted, motioning for him to clink his glass to hers. Eli looked at the glass and was about to refuse the drink when he decided...

Fuck it.

"To new beginnings," Eli smirked at Jade and clinked his glass. Jade quickly downed the shot and set the empty glass onto the counter. Eli followed suit, throwing his head back and allowing the liquid to fall down his throat.

Eli started coughing harshly as the warm liquid flooded his sense.

In his time of distraction, Jade pushed Eli's upper half over the sink and shoved a rag in the boys mouth. Before he could struggle out, she poured vodka onto the burn.

Holy FUCK.

Eli had never felt anything worse in his entire existence. The painful burn had his jaw clenched around the rag and tears welling up in his eyes.

"Sh, sh, sh, mi tesoro." Jade whispered sweet nothings into the teens ears as she rubbed his bare back. "Let the pain wash over you and cleanse your soul..." Eli shut his eyes and tried to imagine being anywhere else. He thought about all the names...

...the beatings...

...the points...

...the stares...

He screamed through the gag, but this time it wasn't in pain.

It was in anger.
