Chapter 1: The Burp Heard 'Round the World
A/N: A lot of stories have explored the angle of Deku going his own way with no Quirk to speak of. But I thought, what if we went the other direction? What if instead of no Quirk, Izuku got a new, separate Quirk instead? The result is this.
*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*
"Gah, what time is it-OH CRAP I'M GONNA BE LATE!" Izuku shouted as he bolted out of bed, using One For All to boost his speed, get changed, grab his bag, breakfast, and charge out the door, quickly saying, "Bye mom!" As he raced out into the street.
Inko, who was just about to leave for work, shook her head. "That boy will be the death of me…" she said as she watched her son rocket through the streets of Musutafu toward the new-and-improved UA campus (it had been all over the news about a month ago)
In the sky above Musutafu, Izuku realized he was coming up on someone else. "Hey Kacchan!" he called out to his ever-present rival.
"Oi, Deku! Looks like you're comin' in late today!" Bakugo shouted back.
"Could say the same to you, man, considering you're not exactly going any faster than me!" Izuku said with a shit-eating grin.
"Why you-Alright, race you there! RAH!" Bakugo said, suddenly massively boosting his explosive force and shooting off toward the horizon.
Izuku smirked. You're on, Kacchan! Full Cowling, 40%! The familiar green energy crackled around him, and then, Time to get my Float on! Feeling himself rising steadily away from the buildings, (before he'd been using a combination of Shoot Style-enhanced leaps and Blackwhip building swings) he turned toward UA and shot toward it with blistering speed.
Within minutes he was coming up on UA's massive gates, and glancing at his phone, he checked the time: 8:20. Perfect, he thought. Should be right on schedule.
Dialing back One For All and Float, he felt himself dropping from the sky a little faster than intended. Just as he neared the ground, instead of simply digging in, he called on Blackwhip to lock him in, cutting his momentum and allowing him to (safely) skid to a halt right at the door. As the dust cleared around him, he turned back, flashed a smile to the incoming first years, (most of whom cheered the greatest student hero of their generation) and showed his ID to Aizawa. The ever-tired underground hero rolled his eyes and waved him in. Izuku nodded, suddenly hearing Bakugo's angry ranting from behind him.
"Hey, Kacchan, fancy seeing you here!" he said with a smile.
"You fuckin' cheated, didn't you!?" the boisterous blonde shouted back.
"What? No! I just, y'know, used my Quirks, plural, to their full ability." Izuku said. "If anything, I was being more than fair!"
"That's exactly the fucking problem, DEKU!" Bakugo said, jabbing his finger into the green haired teen's chest. "You've GOT multiple freaking Quirks and I don't!"
"Well, maybe you should've gone alone with All Might a year ago and eaten some of his hair!" Izuku said back, half-joking.
"Nah, fuck it, you've got it, let me eat some of yours!" Bakugo said, trying to grab at the shorter teen's iconic curly green hair.
"Not happening! Now come on, we're gonna be late!" Izuku shouted, and the two raced to room 2-A.
Just as the two boys got in their seats, (accompanied by Iida's ranting) their homeroom teacher arrived, and to say they were surprised would be an understatement. "ENDEAVOR!?"
The current Number One Hero sat down at the teacher's desk, saying nothing, letting his students stew in the fact that he, known (former, though it was still pretty fresh) child abuser, was being left anywhere near students, one of which was his own son. All he did was call roll. When homeroom was over, he let them go, and left all of them extremely confused as to what him being there would mean.
As class 2-A went about their day, none of them could really think about much else aside from the fact Endeavor was at UA of all places, but given it was their first day back, they didn't exactly have many things they needed to pay attention to. This was especially considering UA itself was trying to get in order having been extensively renovated due to damage sustained in the final battle with All For One and the rest of the Paranormal Liberation Front.
And so it was that class 2-A got to their new dorm, and after settling in, Kaminari asked, "Hey, Todoroki, do you know why your old man's here?"
Shoto shook his head. "I do not, and when I asked, he would not reply."
"Maybe you should try asking your siblings? Or your mom? Kero." Tsuyu said.
"They've been helping Da-Touya out ever since he got placed in a high security mental ward." Todoroki said. "It's the same one my mother was in, actually. In any case, Natsuo and Touya don't care, Fuyumi didn't know, and my mother doesn't want to know."
"In any case, Todoroki, do you not have any idea? This seems like a major breach in child safety laws, especially with a pro hero." Iida asked.
Shoto thought for a moment, a small coating of ice appearing on his arm. "I suspect the old man got himself some kind of community service deal involving teaching. As for why he went here, that's probably on Principal Nezu."
With that question partially handled, the teens began to filter into their usual groups to hang out, Izuku, who'd brought in a couple boxes of Coke that day, (he'd planned to hand them out as celebration for the start of a new school year but Iida had very firmly told him no) decided, hey, he'd bought them, may as well have one, right? So, as he sat down with his latest Hero notebook volume to update some of the entries, he took a sip, and then burped.
Now, under normal circumstances, a simple burp would mean nothing. Everyone burped, and he was drinking a can of Coke. It was to be expected. But maybe it was the rushed morning, maybe Endeavor being there had been a sign, whatever the case was, this one burp would change everything.
For a short while no one noticed the effects of the burp, but that night after dinner Kirishima looked up and saw something strange. "Uh, guys? Why's there a burn mark on the ceiling?"
Immediately everyone darted around looking for the source of the fire, (Shoto was manhandled but a short questioning by Momo put an end to that) but then Bakugo levelled his glare at Izuku. "So, Deku, guess your disappeared dad finally came through for ya!"
"Huh, I guess he did…" he said, staring at the partially-faded burn mark.
"Wait, what? What's that supposed to mean?" Ochaco asked. "All of that, actually!"
"Indeed, Midoriya, this seems like very pertinent information!" Iida said, waving his hand at the mark.
"It's the first time I'm hearing about this…" Jiro said, prompting "Same," and "Me too," from the others.
Izuku sighed, then (without even using One For All) hefted both couches into the main room. Even through his baggy shirt his abnormally well-defined muscles could be seen, prompting a few oohs and ahs from his classmates. Motioning to them, he offered everyone a seat. Well, except Bakugo, but the prickly blonde had already stormed off to his room and shut the door.
When everyone had sat down, Izuku began. "Alright, so for a really long time my dad was apparently overseas for work related reasons. His name was Hisashi Midoriya, and his Quirk was Fire Breath." Nods of recognition all around. "As for me? I was Quirkless."
"Hang on, how-" "What do you-" "That can't-" were the only things Izuku caught as the class burst out in confusion and denial. After all, he had One For All, no?
"Wait, did I never tell you guys how I got One For All?" he finally asked. When everyone shook their heads, Izuku facepalmed. "Dammit, I swore I did a little bit ago. Guess not. Anyway, so I got One For All from All Might by eating his hair-don't ask, it's still weird. I needed to bulk up to handle it though, hence why I can-" he lifted up the girls' couch for emphasis, "-lift stuff without it." Setting the couch down, he continued, "Anyway, you guys remember that whole thing with Blackwhip? That's part of One For All, something All Might never quite figured out."
Todoroki nodded, having remembered a conversation he'd had before the Liberation War. "That was – is, sorry, a separate Quirk, correct?"
"Yep. There's actually 6 extra Quirks packed into One For All that I can use with it for all sorts of stuff." Izuku said, quickly demonstrating by latching onto the ceiling with Blackwhip, then instead of dropping, after releasing, he simply floats down as smoke fills the area. "That was, in order, Blackwhip, Float, and Smokescreen." Then, he began to rapidly shake his hand back and forth, and after opening a window, launched a burst of energy strong enough to whip the curtains around. "That was Fa Jin, and, if someone wants to try, say, kicking me, my Danger Sense would trigger." Finally, he stood still for a while in a ready stance, when out of nowhere a wave of energy burst out from him, shaking everyone and everything in the room. "That right there should've been the last one, Tidal Wave. But it wasn't."
Before he could continue, Mina asked, "Wait, shouldn't there be 7 extra Quirks? The first guy obviously created it so he didn't have any other Quirks, but there were 7 others before you right?"
"About that…" Izuku said. "Turns out All Might of all people used to be Quirkless too. Ever wonder why he stopped using his super buff mode?"
Jiro caught on. "He couldn't, that's why! Especially not after he gave you One For All!"
"Exactly." Izuku nodded. "But anyway, all that's to say that despite me having been Quirkless for 14 years, I apparently did get something from my dad after all. My new fire breath."
As he tried to get another burst of flame to pop out of his mouth, however, something else happened: Ochaco suddenly felt herself dragged toward him. Izuku panicked, causing a flame to shoot from his right hand that barely missed everyone as the poor girl continued floating (she'd accidentally triggered her own Zero Gravity) Eventually she released, plopped on the floor, and Izuku said, "Wait, was that-"
"Was that what?" Ochaco asked, thoroughly miffed at being the unintended target.
"My mom's Quirk, Attraction." Izuku replied. "For those who've met her you've probably seen her move small things around telekinetically, that's what I just did. Just… on a larger scale."
"That wasn't all you did, Midoriya." Shoji said. "One of my extra limbs got singed off by that hand flamethrower you somehow did. What was that about?"
"One For All-related Quirk enhancement shenanigans probably." Izuku said like that explained literally everything, which it did. For him, and only him. When he saw the blank stares, he clarified: "Alright, so since the point of One For All is to stockpile power as it gets passed down, any Quirks that come with gradually get stronger. I've talked to the vestiges of the previous users – don't ask it's really complicated and I'd rather do a proper explanation later – and they all mentioned that their own Quirks weren't nearly as strong as when I tended to use them. I assume my other latent Quirks from my parents also got a boost."
"This fails to explain why the marks of your parentage did not reveal themselves until this moment." Tokoyami said. "As we have all seen from Todoroki, his father, and the like, fire manipulation is an extremely versatile power. I of course despise it given its propensity for generating light, but that is a personal battle of mine. Combined with telekinesis, another strong ability, and you would've been even more powerful than before."
"I… can't answer that." Izuku said, rubbing his neck. "But uh, now that I have them, I'll probably talk to Principal Nezu about getting some practice. Oh, and Todoroki you mind…"
Todoroki replied, "I can certainly assist you in honing your new fire. I suspect my father won't like my doing so though."
"When's the last time you listened to him?" Izuku asked.
"That… is a fair point." Todoroki said, and with a smirk, he let off a burst of flame at the wall. Instead of simply leaving behind a small circle, he'd shaped it just so it formed a letter 'A,' for their class. "He'll definitely not like that."
"And he is right not to!" Iida said, "Considering this is school property you are blatantly vandalizing!"
Momo, however, disagreed. "I think it looks nice, actually! My mansion has a few wood-burned sculptures around, and evoking those is, in my opinion, a wonderful use of a Quirk."
Todoroki blushed. "Why, thank you, Yaoyorozu. I admittedly did it as teenage rebellion but it's nice to know my artistic skills are appreciated."
"Oh, come on!" Mineta shouted. "Todoroki does one little art piece with his Quirk and the hottest chick in class is all over him! It's not fair!"
"Hey, yeah, Todoroki, when the hell did you get suave!?" Kaminari asked.
Out of nowhere Bakugo, who'd stepped out to take a shower, shouted, "Freezer Burn over there decided to play Casanova at fucking remedial training with kindergarteners and he had that Shiketsu bitch fawning over him in seconds! It was hilarious!"
"Wait, bro, you met CAMIE at remedial training!?" Kirishima said, staring at Bakugo.
"Let's not forget that I saw her naked at the license exam!" Sero proclaimed.
"That wasn't actually Camie!" Izuku said, prompting stares. "That was Himiko Toga, you know, the shapeshifting vampire yandere girl?"
"Wait, she's a yandere?" Mina asked.
Izuku, Ochaco, and Tsuyu groaned simultaneously. Ochaco then said, "Yeah, she's really obsessed with Deku and I and alternates between wanting to date either of us, wanting us to date each other (which I'm also open to but uh let's not get into that) or wanting to be one of us. She's also mildly obsessed with Tsu for… reasons."
"Can we all come back to me for a sec-" Izuku tried to say.
"NO!" was all he got back.
"OK, so what exactly are we talking about now?" he asked.
"Relationships." Said Mina. "Specifically, the fact that Ochaco here has a crush on you!"
"What!? N-no I don't!" Ochaco vehemently denied.
"H-hey, i-it's fine if you do!" Izuku stuttered. "Not gonna lie, I've had a bit of a crush on you ever since we first met so…"
"Really!?" Ochaco spluttered. "Well, why didn't you say so before!?"
"Never had the chance to!" Izuku said. "I was thinking maybe I should've put it in my vigilante announcement but I figured that might be too on the nose…"
"Oh my God that would've been so cheesy and adorable, Midoriya, you totally should've!" Mina said.
"Well, anyway since it's now pretty clear we both like each other, do you want to, you know…" Izuku asked, trailing off.
"Uh, OK, sure!" Ochaco replied. "Wait, what are we doing exactly?"
"THIS!" Izuku shouted, suddenly scooping her up and rushing out the door.
"500 yen says that they ran off to hang out under that tree on the hill." Mina said.
Tsuyu giggled. "2000 says they're sneaking back to her apartment."
"1500 says they ran off to his apartment." Kaminari said.
"1000 that he's buying her something super expensive and way out of her price range." Jiro said.
Iida groaned. "There will be no betting on the behavior of our classmates!"
Suddenly the door burst open again, and Izuku set Ochaco down on the floor. Then he rushed out again, leaving her a little confused.
"So, where'd he bring you to?" Toru asked.
"Oddly enough he dropped me off at my place-"
"Alright pay up!" Tsuyu said.
"-But then he rushed off somewhere else." Ochaco continued. "Apparently, it was his apartment since suddenly him and his mom show up at my doorstep."
Kaminari laughed. "So, how about it?"
Ochaco rolled her eyes. "We broke the news, there was a bunch of crying and hugging, stuff like that, then he dropped me off back here."
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Opening it, there stood Izuku, with, of all things, a bouquet. "Oh my God Deku, really!? You didn't!" Ochaco shouted.
"What can I say, my mom's romantic advice really works, doesn't it?" Izuku said. Suddenly Izuku turned to look at Bakugo, who was just about to go to bed. "Word of advice, Kacchan! If you want a nice gift for someone you like, take my mom's advice: flowers always work!"
Bakugo said nothing, simply snarling at Izuku and slamming the door, as everyone broke down laughing. With that, Ochaco told Izuku to give said bouquet to her parents since admittedly having it here would be kind of embarrassing, which Izuku gladly obliged. After all that, Todoroki very quietly waved him over. Whispering into his ear, the green-haired teen suddenly blushed bright red. Whispering back, the half-hot, half-cold boy nodded in understanding. Confused, Ojiro asked, "What are you guys whispering about? And after Midoriya over here made a big romantic gesture no less?"
"Nothing important." Todoroki said. "Well, anyway I suppose it is getting rather late…"
Iida nodded. "Indeed. As much as Bakugo is rather openly aggressive, his sleep schedule is immaculate, and so should ours. We likely have more ahead of us, particularly you, Midoriya. So, I say we should all get some sleep!" Several tired nods agreed with him.
A/N: I think IzuOcha is diabetes-level sweet and probably going to be canon soon enough so sue me. Anyway, aside from that next time you'll start to see just what Izuku can do with his newfound flames and telekinesis! Knowing him, the answer is an absolute shitload. Oh, and the astute among you may have caught the other ship tease this chapter. Leave a comment/review if you did (and even if you didn't, I like all the feedback I get)
