A/N: Well, how will class 2-A handle the new challenges presented? Read on and see!
Izuku stared down at the water below him as he held onto Sero. While there were waves in the huge reservoir already, he swore he could see them getting stronger and stronger. "Uh, guys, the waves are starting to pick up!"
Sero winced. "Noted! Tape's getting soggy!"
"Gah! Water's messing with my flashes!" Toru called out.
"Dammit!" Izuku shouted back. "I'll get us back to shore and we can regroup!"
Back on dry land, the four of them stood, watching as the waves began to pull the sinking ship faster and faster. "So, I've got a bit of an idea to deal with the water, but it's… not great." Izuku said.
"What is it?" Shoji asked.
"I'll… try to evaporate it off with my fire, I suppose." Izuku said.
"You kidding!?" Sero shouted. "Dude, yesterday you nearly turned Thirteen's suit into an oven! I ain't gonna deal with that, my tape's just gonna snap!"
"Yeah, and I'm not even wearing anything!" Toru shouted.
"My arms would handle it, but I'd rather not." Shoji noted.
"Alright, alright, point taken." Izuku said. "But what if I tried pulling you around, or even grabbing survivors, with my Attraction?"
"I guess… but that one's got a delay, doesn't it?" Toru asked.
Izuku sighed. "My fire does too, which is probably why that flame pillar happened. But if I just concentrate a bit more, I should be able to use it without much of a problem."
"OK…" Sero said, not really convinced. "But if you start flinging people, I'm gonna whip around and slap you right in the face."
"Got it. Let's go!" With that, they launched back toward the ship.
Meanwhile, the Conflagration group was dealing with the ever-increasing heat and smoke from the still burning fire. Todoroki's constant ice making was helping keep himself cool, but Aoyama could feel himself start to overheat inside his armor. Kaminari's hero outfit was also a little too good at keeping heat in, while Momo's had a different problem: the extra skin exposure made it easy for her to burn. She'd formed a flame-retardant suit rather quickly, but that meant cutting off herself from forming particularly large objects. However, that did give her an idea. "Todoroki!" she called out.
"What is it?" he asked.
"I have an idea to help control the flames," she said. "What temperature is your ice?"
"Maybe -20, -30°? Why?" he asked once more.
"Make a large, knee-height layer of ice that's just about at freezing temperature," she explained. "The intense surrounding heat should cause nearly all of it to melt practically instantly."
"Ah, so that the water will help extinguish the flames," he nodded. Letting his left side heat up to influence the temperature of his right side's ice, he let loose a massive wave of ice that coated about 400 square meters (4300 square feet) in a layer of 0°C (32°F) ice about half a meter (1'7") thick. Within about 10 seconds, that ice had all melted, and the resulting water washed over the testing zone. The results were immediately obvious: the 200 kiloliters (44000 gallons) of water that resulted completely drenched out all the flames in the zone on ground level, leaving only a few small blazes in the upper floors of the tallest buildings.
"Why didn't we do this earlier!?" Kaminari demanded, and Todoroki shrugged.
"Admittedly I hadn't thought of manipulating my ice's temperature in such a way, but I can see now that it is almost frighteningly effective," he eventually said.
"C'est magnifique, Todoroki!" Aoyama exclaimed. "That rush of water was just the aid I needed!"
Momo looked up. "Unfortunately, the smoke still remains…" she commented. "If only we had some kind of way to just blow-wait!" Turning to Kaminari, she ordered him to start charging up, which while he was confused, he did so. Then, removing the now-redundant firefighting suit, she ordered everyone back. Within seconds her back began to glow as a giant industrial cooling fan materialized behind her.
"Alright everyone, hang on to something!" she called out, and Todoroki opted to freeze everyone's feet in place while Kaminari grabbed a loose wire.
After a muffled "I got it!" from Kaminari, she turned the massive fan on. It worked perfectly.
All the nearby smoke wafted away upon coming in the path of the fan's airflow, and some of the still burning flames were finally put out. When the entire zone had been hit, she turned off the fan and everyone spread out to collect the survivors.
Meanwhile, the Typhoon team was having a lot more trouble. As Ochaco maneuvered around the zone grabbing survivors before they were blown away, she noticed that Bakugo was starting to wobble about. Mineta hadn't noticed, but on her next pass she landed and ordered Mineta to pay attention. "Alright, Bakugo, are you OK?" she asked.
"Fuckin' course I… am…" he mumbled, only for him to trip and fall over. With a quick slap to the back Ochaco kept his face from breaking and also shook him awake slightly.
"Alright, you're clearly not!" she countered. "But how do we… wait Mineta what are your balls made out of, anyway?"
The short boy shrugged. "Not sure, actually… but I remember when I was a kid that I accidentally ate one. Kinda tasted like grapes."
"Hm… You think you can get Bakugo to eat one?" she asked.
"What the… you want me to eat those balls!?" the teen in question shouted.
"You can't even stand up straight right now, you need nutrients! Gah, what am I, your mom!?" Ochaco demanded.
"That old hag wouldn't know edible food if it was shoved right in her face!" Bakugo shouted back. "But fuck it, fine I'll have one. Alright, perv, give 'em here." Mineta did so, and Bakugo shoved an entire ball right into his mouth and damn near swallowed it whole. "Whaddaya know, stupid extra wasn't joking. These little shits do taste like grape."
Mineta smirked. "Told you! Hey, Uraraka, you want one?"
Ochaco threw up in her mouth a little. "I-I'll pass…"
But just as Bakugo got ready to launch her again, suddenly they all suddenly felt a wave of water get shoved right in their faces. "Alright, what the fuck was that!?" he demanded.
"Me, heroes!" a voice called from down below. "Prepare to be washed away by… Hosedown!"
Bakugo glared at the approaching villain. "Alright, Hoseface, eat grenade, why dontcha!?"
Ochaco, meanwhile, was rather confused. "Is that… Manual? He's not on UA staff, is he?"
Mineta shrugged. "I think Iida's bro may have put him up to it or something."
"Oh, yeah, that makes sense," Ochaco said. "Anyway, we should probably…"
"Yeah." Mineta finished. "After you!"
Saying this, the three students began their descent toward Manual, who was having a rather fun time hamming it up and using the unending rain against them.
Up in the Mountain Zone Tsuyu was starting to feel the cold again even while next to the impromptu campsite. "I-is it just me or d-did the temperature drop…? K-kero…"
Kirishima was also starting to notice. "I-it's not j-just you anymore, Tsu! Iida, ideas?"
"How many survivors are left?" Iida asked.
"Uh… I think l-like five? B-but they're really o-outta the way…" Kirishima replied.
"Hm…" Iida began to think. "My armor is naturally modular and my engines are able to compensate for lower body heat so… Each of you take a few pieces!"
"You s-sure?" Kirishima asked.
"I am positive on this!" Iida retorted. "Kirishima your lack of a shirt is clearly affecting you and Asui needs as much insulation as she can get! So, take it!"
"I-I'll take it… K-k-kero…" Tsuyu said, her body threatening to shut down again. Iida worked quickly to hand her his arm bracers and greaves, then he took off his breastplate and backplate and gave that to Kirishima. After an extra Recipro Burst to heat them up, Iida shot off, leaving Tsuyu and Kirishima to find the rest of the survivors.
While examining the Ruins, Mina noticed something off about one of the buildings: despite the angle and lack of foundation, it would not tip over. Calling Koda and Tokoyami over for a closer look, they soon identified the discrepancy. "Wait, is that a-"
"TARGETS IDENTIFIED! MARKED FOR EXTERMINATION!" The zero-pointer boomed as it began to chase after the three heroes-in-training, all the while the building it had been carrying crashed to the ground. Luckily Dark Shadow had formed a barrier, but that still left the zero-pointer.
"How do we take it down!?" Mina shouted.
"I-I could try g-getting a swarm to t-take out the insides!" Koda said.
"Dark Shadow will be able to tear apart the paneling to assist." Tokoyami added.
"Alright so protect Koda and get Dark Shadow in." Mina summarized. "Alright, Acidman, go!" Summoning the uber-viscous acid construct, she wrapped it around Koda who began directing a swarm of flies and ants to assault the zero-pointer as Dark Shadow provided a distraction. Mina then opted to start spamming out Acid Veils in order to keep her squishy teammates from being blown to pieces.
Finally, in the Landslide Zone, as Jiro was still sifting through the dirt, she realized she was beginning to notice something… odd. "Uh, guys?"
"What is it?" Ojiro called from below.
"There's something under all this dirt." Jiro said. "It's huge. Segmented. Looks kinda like a worm."
"Is it metal?" Sato asked.
"I'm getting pings, so yeah, probably." Jiro replied.
"Is it on?" he added.
"I… don't think- uh-oh." Jiro stopped. "I think you jinxed it." Calling down to Ojiro, she shouted, "Get outta there! It's headed for you!"
Ojiro did just that, dashing up the dirt as suddenly a giant mole miner burst forth below them. "What is that thing!?" he shouted.
"Whatever it is," Jiro said. "We gotta handle it! Heartbeat Surround!" The familiar soundwaves emanating from Jiro's speakers stalled the mole miner for a few seconds, allowing Sato and Ojiro to run at it and pummel certain components.
"Uh, how do we shut this thing down!?" Sato shouted.
"Probably on the inside somewhere!" Jiro shouted back. "Keep it distracted! I'll plug in and check!"
"Got it!" Sato shouted, eating another fistful of candy. "Let's sweeten this deal!" With that, he unleashed a massive barrage of punches at what seemed to be a loose panel.
Ojiro, meanwhile, was swinging about, when suddenly his tail got caught on an extended metal probe. Hearing the odd straining noise, he stopped, swung back around, and started to spin. With a shout of "TORNADO TAIL DANCE!" he pummeled the probe hard enough that it flew off, dragging its attachment point with it and giving him an opening. "I'm in!" he shouted, prompting Sato to climb around and hop inside. Jiro wasn't far behind, using the various handrails and cavities to crawl her way up.
With one final scan of the inside of the mole miner, Jiro located the miner's control panel and Sato smashed it into oblivion. With that, it stopped dead. "Alright, let's get back out there!" she called as she began the climb back down.
"Right behind you!" came the reply.
Eventually, the full hour of the exercise was up, and everyone filed back into the main room. "Good work, everyone!" Thirteen said. "You all made good plans to counter the issues I presented and, even in the face of some very unforeseen circumstances, each of you adapted."
Mina raised her hand. "Did there have to be a zero-pointer!?"
"For the ruins? I figured it was appropriate." Thirteen replied.
"What about the mole miner in the landslide zone?" Ojiro asked.
"That was Principal Nezu's idea, actually! I wanted to go with an empty aquifer-turned-sinkhole." Thirteen said.
"Which one of you extras put Hoseface or whatever up to that!?" Bakugo shouted.
"Manual's actually acting as a substitute here at UA!" Thirteen commented. "After the war and everything we're a bit low on staff…" she trailed off before coming back to the point. "Anyway, I'd like to commend Midoriya in particular for doing an exemplary job of keeping his Quirk under control, especially after last period…"
"Sorry about that…" he moaned. "I'll work on it!"
"As for the others, Yaoyorozu, your ingenuity involving Todoroki's ice was exemplary." Thirteen continued. "How'd you think of it?"
"Well, I noticed that Todoroki's larger ice blocks seemingly refused to melt even with the ridiculously intense heat, so I realized his ice must be fairly significantly below freezing in order to do so," she explained. "From there it was a simple matter of getting him to make less stable ice."
Thirteen turned to Todoroki. "What are your thoughts?"
"I haven't ever really considered using my two halves in such a unified manner, to be honest," Todoroki said. "The closest I've done is my Flashfreeze Heatwave technique, which I use to ludicrously power up my flame attacks. This is effectively the opposite of that. I will likely make more use of this in future."
"Good!" Thirteen said. "I suggest maybe you use both fire and ice at the exact same time and direct them in the same point. That'll give you water depending on the temperature."
"A useful technique." Todoroki noted. "Thank you for the suggestion."
Thirteen continued on, making comments about Sato's ingenuity in sifting through the dirt and Koda's use of a swarm to defeat the zero-pointer, as well as Kirishima's ideas on maintaining Tsuyu's body heat, before finally coming to the Downpour group.
"Alright, you three, I have to say…" she paused. "Well done! Manual's water manipulation was intended to wash you all away, but Mineta used those sticky spheres of his beautifully and Bakugo kept the water evaporating. Uraraka, great work destabilizing him with your zero gravity!"
"Thanks, Ms. Thirteen!" Ochaco said back.
"OK, that's all I've got for you all today!" Thirteen finished. "Class dismissed!"
And with that, class 2-A returned to their dorms.
A/N: Now, admittedly not much is happening relating to Deku's two new Quirks. But after that big news report, Deku's gonna have some rather influential people coming after him. How will he handle that? Probably poorly, given his track record.
