Hello! Thank you to everyone reading and reviewing :D Hawk, thank you so much for your thoughtful review, I'm sorry I've not been able to send you a proper review reply.
As far as Sid was concerned, Thanksgiving didn't get much better than this – dinner with friends and loved ones, eating home-cooked food and celebrating together. They were a small gathering: a mixed group of people of all ages, including one very young indeed. Small but lively, with plenty of laughter.
Replete and happy, Sid sat back in his chair and gazed around at his fellow guests, noting with a smile that baby Holly (exactly five months' old that day) still slept peacefully in her grandmother's arms despite the noise around the dinner table.
Milly Taylor had a proud, beaming smile on her face that hadn't yet dimmed as she held her granddaughter. It lifted Sid's heart.
Sighing happily, he turned to his wife beside him, but Martha nudged him, gesturing to Mac on his other side who held out a plate to him.
'Some more potatoes, Sid? Or another slice of turkey?'
Sid paused; weighing up the sight and aroma of the food against the danger to his digestion. 'Mac, I'd love to, really I would, but…'
'Saving room for dessert, right, Hammerback?' Flack said from across the table, with a knowing smirk. 'All the more for me then. Thanks, Mac.' Standing up and stretching across, Flack took the proffered plate and helped himself liberally.
'Don, I don't know where you put it all, I really don't.' Genuinely bewildered, Sid shook his head and Flack grinned before biting into a potato.
'Don has secret stomachs,' Stella said, throwing Flack a laughing look. 'Did you not know that?'
'You hide them well, my love,' Martha soothed, chuckling nonetheless.
'Hey, I'm an active guy with a healthy appetite,' Don retorted. 'And, I'm showing my appreciation for this good food. Mac, Stell, Milly… I'm grateful for your cooking and your invitation.'
'Hear, hear,' Sid said and Martha echoed him. 'Thank you for including us.'
'Our pleasure,' Stella replied, sharing a quick look with Mac, communication passing wordlessly between them. 'Thank you for being here with us.'
Choosing that moment to open her big blue eyes and demonstrate her lung power, Holly paused the conversation. While Milly passed her to Stella for a feed, all the Taylors' guests pitched in to clear the main course away. Flack, Sid noted with amusement, was the first to jump up and offer to serve dessert.
After a generous slice of pumpkin pie, Sid admitted defeat and declared that he couldn't possibly eat another thing.
'Hate to say it, but same goes for me,' Flack sighed. 'Taylors… that was one of the best Thanksgiving dinners I've ever had. Thank you.'
'Coming from you, that means a lot,' Stella said, her eyes crinkling with merriment.
'Absolutely,' Mac agreed, glancing again at Stella, who gave him a small nod. 'So, uh, while everyone's sitting here…'
'Mac, I ain't moving anywhere for a good long time,' Flack groaned. 'So go right ahead with whatever you want to do, you got a captive audience.'
'Glad to hear it,' Mac said dryly and lifted his glass. 'Firstly.' He looked around at his guests, Sid smiled back offering encouragement. 'Thank you all for being here with us. As you know, this is something of a special Thanksgiving for Stella and me…' He paused, looking across at Stella, who clasped his hand. 'Being here with our daughter, our miracle baby, is something I'm more thankful for than I can say.' Stella's eyes were bright as she pressed a kiss to Holly's forehead. 'I'm very glad you could be here with us to share today.'
Impulsively, Sid stood and lifted his glass. 'To the Taylors – to Mac, Stella, Holly and grandma Milly.' Everyone lifted their glasses, toasting the new family with a cheer, and then laughter as Holly joined in with a shriek of excitement. 'Here's to many happy years, and many more Thanksgivings together.'
Many thanks for reading! Please do leave a review, they are great motivation :D And prompts / requests are still very welcome! Lily x
