Chapter 13: Board Game Bonding
Notes:
Hello everyone, this is based on a piece of fan art where Reagan and adult Dipper hook up so I decided to write a whole story/universe around it… I may bring Mabel into the mix with Brett at a later date but first some ground rules. 1). Reagan is in her early thirties like the show and Dipper is 19, 2). it is going to be a slow burn type fanfic. 3). it's not gonna be perfect but imma try so if there are Any OOC moments just know I am improving as I go along.
P.S.:
I do plan on a future fanfic of writing mabel and Brett in a relationship in the same universe.
Sequestered in her living room. Reagan ridley scrolled through her phone. The young scientist blew her hair out of her face, today was one of those days where she didn't put it up in her classic ponytail.
Today's suppose to be a lazy day.
Reagan knew her father was hanging out with some old colleagues and even texted her he wouldn't be back for a couple days.
The house was a big empty mess. Maybe I should clean while he's gone?
The young scientist shook her head. Nah, it'd just get messy again.
Reagan looked up at the television which played a old detective show her mom liked. The thought of tamiko ridley brought back the horror of the wedding and the small bit of joy after the terror was done.
What happened that day stuck with her even though a week passed.
Not the guy waving a gun in her face, that happened every other week but when dipper had stuck up for her. She'd never seen her assistant that angry. He was either extremely calm or a smart alec… who would've thought that dipstick had it in him… for me.
A text on reagan's phone caught her attention… it was from dipper.
Hey reagan, wanna come over and hang out?
A warm tingling overtook reagan and she immediately texted back her reply.
Sure, be there soon.
Reagan left her coach and put her up in the ponytails, she dabbed herself in some sweet smelling perfume that her mom gave her and walked out the house in her sweater and yoga pants combo.
Look at me, getting all gussied up for a close friend… just a friend.
The more reagan told herself this, the less she believed it. Dipper and her experienced too much in the last couple months to just be friends… they were closer. But unlike with brett reagan didn't see dipper as a sibling or pet… but what does that make him.
Reagan skipped out of her apartment and lightly jogged up the stairs to dipper's house. She hestiantly knocked on his door and he swung it open almost instantly.
"Hey reagan, you look great," he said in that typical sincere tone that reagan had grown accustomed to since meeting him. Dipper took a few whiffs of the air.
Oh no, he's gonna smell the fact I haven't showered in the last two days. He's gonna think I'm nasty and unlovable.
"Is that cherry deluge… that's my sister's favorite brand when she's on a date. Says it drives men wild… I don't know about that but it works on you."
"Woo, I thought you'd think I smelt too girly." Reagan sighed entering the house.
"reagan, you shouldn't Care about what I think of you. I'm your friend and I want you to be happy with yourself before you make anyone else happy." He said showing her to his living room which had a big table with minitaures, books, and a three panel screen with notesbooks behind it. A whole sleeve of graph paper lied on the chair at the head of the table.
"what's the plan?" Reagan asked, indicating all the stuff.
Dipper coughed and darted his eyes back and forth. "I know it's gonna sound weird but hear me out."
reagan crossed her arms, a teasing smile making it's way on her lips. "dipper… did you invite me here to play dungeons, dungeons, and more dungeons?"
Dipper blinked his eyes twice, he tried to say something but froze under reagan's gaze which he found mesmerizing. "Yes,"
"cool, I've never played. I wanted to but didn't have any friends who wanted to play it… or any friends at all." Reagan took a seat next to dippers.
"Okay, cool! First we need to decide what you wanna play… now the game has advanced from the four role based classes into different specializations I have all the current edition sourcebooks. So what are you thinking."
"well to be safe I wanna play someone like me. Ambitious, smart, and powerful." she said, raising her hand in victory.
"how's about an craftsmen?" Dipper asked, "they use intelligence, are known for making cool items and are able to make magic items."
"Ooo, that does sound like me… so what level are we starting at?"
"3rd it's the best starting point for newbies and vets alike." dipper handed her a character sheet, a pencil, and 4 six sided dice. "roll these six times, drop the lowest one of each roll."
Reagan nodded her head and began shaking the dice in her "Mama needs a pair of twins!" and she throws them rolling a 4, two 1's, and a 3 for a total of eight. "Eight, I assume that isn't good."
"well you'll not want to put that in intelligence is all I'm saying. But roll five more."
Reagan did so and came out with a 10, 11, two 12's, and a 16. "aargh, this array is bullshit."
"I'm sorry but don't worry the sixteen can go into intelligence and depending on your race you can upgrade the lower ones."
"What race can fix this shit." she pointed to the numbers on her sheet.
"The elderfolk." Dipper sounded like he was making some grand proclaimation.
"you mean elves?"
Dipper waved his hand slowly. "kinda, elderfolk are fey who are one with the seasons. They have a few abilities but the kicker is everytime you take a rest you can change what season you are and that gives you new bonuses"
"That… does sound like it could help. I'm game."
"so, are you mad about rolling poor… because trust me, I get it but I've found that the lower arrays are the best if you wanna roleplay."
"I just want to be the best at the game. How can I do that with a measly +3 to one stat and +1 to two." She gripped her head and glared holes into the paper.
"power gamer huh, well I have to say they are valid in our community but you don't always have to be the best… I mean, I already see you as one of the best people I know."
"One of… I'm the best person you know," for some reason, no matter how bad her mood was, teasing dipper always made her better without fail.
Dipper chuckled. "Of course you are… alright all we have to do is finish your character sheet and wait for Mabel to come with Brett then we can play."
Reagan filled out her character sheet with a little aid from dipper and the rulebook. Occasionally dipper would point a mistake she made and their hands would touch. The fact that dipper was slow to remove it made the scientists heart skip a beat.
"Dipper?"
"Yes Reagan?"
"about what you did on the boat… during the whole hostage thing."
"what about it?"
"Thank you, no ones ever stuck up for me like that."
"Well it's about time someone did… I l-l… like you a lot reagan."
reagan looked deep into dippers eyes. Like a deer in the headlights of a car… she was frozen.
She knew dipper felt the same as the boy leaned closer.
Reagan felt her body do the same, the two of them opening their mouths waiting for the others embrace.
A crash from the front door shook the two from their trance.
"dipper! We're here to play this nerd game! Why didn't you tell me that the bosses son was such a charmer." Mabel exclaimed holding brett's arm tightly.
"Thanks dipper." Reagan was blushing. Was I really gonna kiss him… was he gonna kiss me.
Dipper clapped his hands a little too hard. "Let's play!"
Yeah, let's play.
