Anne was now running, running faster than she ever ran before running to Mayo, the town where they agreed they would meet. Anne was running when a police helicopter shone its spotlight on her. All of a sudden she heard "This is the police, stop running and surrender now." Anne just kept running, she decided she now had to find a place to hide, taking a chance she decided to run into a densely wooded area. Turning left she headed into the woods running only to trip on a tree root in the dark. Falling over in pain, she made sure she wasn't injured. She found she was a little hurt but nothing that would slow her down. It was good for her because she heard dogs from across the woods, she now has to act fast.
"The chopper said she ran into the woods," a voice said.
"Lucky, we have the dogs," another voice said.
Anne was now hightailing it even faster now, it was only a matter of time before her scent would be picked up by the dogs. She had to keep running, she couldn't hide, the dogs would know where she is, unless that is, she can throw them off, thinking once again, literally on her feet, how do I lose these dogs. Tree? Nope, the dogs would alert the handler, unless, quickly seeing an opportunity she actually saw a small cave and ran into it. Finding a small rock she hid behind it, crunching behind a small rock to hide from the searchlights. Hearing the dogs get closer she felt she was done for, but then a miracle happened. She was hiding, expecting to be dragged out and captured when she heard the guards again.
"The trail stops here"
"By this cave, she must be inside"
"Not likely, there is a spider web being built, she couldn't have entered without disturbing the web"
"But the dog is sniffing the cave, she must have…"
"Climbed, look she couldn't have disturbed the spider web at the cave entrance, chopper 4 are you catching any heat signatures?"
"Several animals? Is one human sized?"
"Oh, okay, we'll look around"
Anne hid in the cave for several hours, waiting for everything to pass. A few hours went by and after everything seemed quiet. So quiet in fact that Anne started to wonder if the cops went away so she stuck her head up to see if they were gone. To her surprise there was nobody outside. Slowly exiting the cave, she looked around to see if anybody was outside, to her luck, nobody. Anne exited the cave and slowly looked around, once again nobody. She started to look around once again, after seeing nobody, she started to run. She knew she wanted to make it to Mayo, to meet her friends for the next part of the plan. Anne ran for miles, running more than she ever did in her life, running to stay free. She ran, thinking about seeing her friends again, but then hit a snag this time nature rather than authority based.
She got to a bay shore where she saw a town, but it was on the other side of the bay. Anne saw a bridge and started to walk there, but then a thought hit her, What if there looking on the roads?'' Looking for another way across, she saw a house near a bridge that has a pier with a small dingy tied on. Seeing a way across she silently approached the dinghy. After taking a look around she silently started the motor. Anne had some trouble but was soon off, hoping the owners didn't hear the dinghy motor. Making her way across the bay she decided to look for a place just outside of town to hide the boat. Seeing a small stream she went into there and beached the dinghy between two mangrove trees and then proceeded to walk through the woods to the town.
Anne approached the road, first ducking when she saw a police car then when the coast was clear continued her flight. It was then she realized she was not in Mayo, but another small town, Bittyburg, as she saw on the road sign. Walking past a couple of houses, she approached the town center, which included a gas station, a small block of storefronts and finally a small bus station. Anne started walking, this time now feeling tired from the events of last night was yawning. But even with exhaustion from the events of last night she could not slow down. She had to make it to Mayo somehow, but she had another problem. In addition to being tired, she was hungry.
"Great, just great" Anne thought to herself, "I'm on the lam, I'm separated from my friends and I'm hungry and tired." But then Anne thought "wait I have some….." then the thought occurred "Marcy has the rest of the bag, I don't have any money." Looking around for money Anne looked on the sidewalks for anything. She managed to scrounge up some pocket change. She managed to get almost two dollars before walking into the gas station. Also before walking in she puts on her yellow hoodie and puts the hood up as an impromptu disuge. Inside she got a croissant and a bottle of oj. As she was about to leave the news came on.
"Good morning North Florida, it is a gorgeous May Monday, with morning temperatures in the mid 70's, I'm Tom Kent" The male reporter said
"And I'm Melissa Huges," a female reporter said.
"Our top story this morning is of the daring escape of three female inmates from the St. James Women's Correctional Facility." Melissa said.
Anne froze in panic.
"That's right, Melissa, last night at around 10:30 pm, three inmates managed not only shut down the electric perimeter fence and cut a hole allowing the women to crawl under and slip past the watchtowers, it was only after another inmate reported something amiss to the guards that a response was made" Tom said.
"So we were betrayed," Anne thought.
"The three convicts, Anne Boonchuy, Sasha Waybright and Marcy Wu, ran to an abandoned shed where they seemed to split up, the authorities believing that they were heading to the nearest town north of the prison." Tom said as footage of their escape was played over the tv screen behind the gas station clerk. Soon their mugshots came on screen. Anne was looking downtrodden in hers while holding up the board. Sasha was one of a smug smile and even smuger confidence. And finally Marcy's was one of fear. They were all wearing their standard orange and white prison scrubs.
"Anybody with knowledge on the whereabouts of the three women are encouraged to call authorities immediately" Melissa said, but then she got another confirmation "What's that, breaking story about the convicts, anybody who has the whereabouts or manages to catch any of the three convicts is entitled to a ten thousand dollar reward, the whereabouts of which are currently unknown" Melissa said.
Anne felt both a scare and a relief, a scare because she and her friends now had ten thousand dollars on their heads, but a relief that her friends were safe even with their whereabouts unknown. This made her want to find them more, but first she had to get out of the store. She knew she had to get past the clerk, which seemed easy enough. Quickly and discreetly she put the croissant and OJ in her sweatshirt and proceed to walk out the door when all of a sudden she heard a beep. As soon as that beep was heard an angry voice called out for Anne.
"Hey, you forgot to pay for that," the clerk said in an angry tone.
"Oh," Anne nervously said as she walked over to the counter.
The Clerk rung up the items and said "That will be five fifty three"
"Oh" Anne nervously said while rubbing the back of her neck "I don't exactly have the money"
"Then I can't sell you these," the clerk said.
Anne decided to try and reason along with coming up with a lie of course, "look I lost my bag on the bus so I'm short, so can you please overlook this one."
"I'm sorry but you have to pay for that" The clerk said.
"I'm starving," Anne said.
"I don't care" the clerk said, the all of a sudden looked at Anne "Hey you look familiar"
"What do you mean" Anne said, now nervous "I don't look like anyone"
All of a sudden a young man walked in and asked "What's going on?"
