Chapter 3 -In the dark
The tension in the air was quite palpable and a grave silence fell around the two challengers, it seemed almost as if time had stopped. The moon would be the only spectator of that event, with only the stars, equally white and dear to the boy, dancing in his presence. The wind, calm and placid during the day, began to blow more and more, ruffling the flaming wisps of the young duellist, furious and wild as the thunder above the earth, a sign that soon, something unpleasant would intervene, the classic calm before the storm.
- So, are you ready? - the disturbing tone of that individual helped to break the quiet created
- Of course - replied the boy, getting into position - I just wanted to inform you that I'm not the type to charge headlong or stupid, and that normally I would never accept a challenge from a stranger with such a limited amount of information. But when someone challenges me to a duel, I never back down, even if it was a trap -
The guy watched him carefully, aiming his magnetic gaze at the slender figure in a leather jacket that stood before him.
- Fair enough, shall we start now? - asked the duelist, getting into position - Ah, I apologize for not having introduced myself yet - he continued with a smile on his face, putting the deck in the Duel Disk - My name is Kageshi Masaru -.
- I shouldn't care about that, but... ok! - replied the other, then giving a last look at the firmament, a rather strange but quite common gesture for someone like him, as if he was asking for good luck or to calm him down. He had a bad feeling about that night, but he would go through with it, whatever it took.
- Let's duel! -
- If you don't mind, I'd like to start the dance - proposed the albino, illuminated by the surrounding neon lights, standing out in the middle of all that darkness, receiving in reply a simple nod - I'm drawing from the Deck! Get ready, the darkness is coming! -
Kageshi = 8000 LP
Hand = 5
Deck = 35
Shiyuki = 8000 LP
Hand = 5
Deck = 35
- From my hand I activate "Allure of Darkness", which allows me to draw 2 cards from my deck, banishing a Dark attribute monster in my hand. I banish "Void Nightmare" and immediately activate its effect, allowing me to add a Fiend Type monster of level 4 or lower to my hand, so I can add a "Sangan" from my deck. After that, I place a face-down monster and 2 equally faced-down cards and I'll pass you the hand-
- "If he decided to play so defensively, he definitely has something in mind, he doesn't look like a beginner to me and he definitely has most of his moves planned in advance, so that face-down monster could be "Sangan" as well as it could be something else. Essentially this is a trap, but for the moment it's better for me to play along" - thought the boy
The two-colored carefully examined the field, trying to understand at least the opponent's intentions, drawing vigorously from his deck
- I can't help but wonder what brings you to my presence, or rather, who sent you, since it's clear as day that you don't work alone - began the two-toned man, observing his challenger, who in response sketched a rather cheeky smile.
- You'll soon find out - was all he said. That guy was seriously starting to annoy him.
- Since you control a monster in a defense position, I can special summon "Space Driller" from my hand in an attack position -
In short order, a mechanized centipede-like creature with a snout ending in a large sharp drill made its appearance, looking even creepier than its challenger (Lv4/Atk: 1900; Def: 0) -I then proceed to summon normally "Space Insectoid" always in an attack position -
Another terrifying creature made its entrance into the field: to the eye it could reach about two meters in height, with a bulbous thorax from which sprouted six mighty and articulated limbs and a pair of large and robust wings, followed by another pair of tiny wings, it also had a long arched neck, ending with an insect-like head equipped with compound eyes and four deadly mandibles. (Lv4/Atk: 1800; Def: 1600)
- From my hand I activate "Cards in the Star Winds", which allows me to draw 2 cards from my deck as long as I control 2 or more "Space" monsters uncovered on my field, but I can't special summon any monsters that aren't "Space" for the rest of the turn, then I put a face-down card. Battle! I attack the placed monster on your field with "Space Driller" -
The mechanical creature launched itself to the assault against the covered card of the adversary, revealing that indeed it was Sangan, a small spherical shaped creature with three big eyes - When it attacks a monster in a defensive position, it inflicts piercing damage to you -
The albino took a step backwards because of the damage done to its life points (8000-1300 = 6700)
- Not bad - replied the young man -But I have a perfect countermove for the occasion. I activate the trap card "Blackout Alert", it not only destroys the attacking monster, but also makes unusable for 5 turns the area of the field on which it was placed, I also activate the effect of the monster you just destroyed, so I add from my deck a monster with an attack of 1500 or less, I choose "Mystic Tomato".
Shiyuki couldn't help but watch helplessly as his monster was pulverized in an instant, rendering the very area of the field where he had summoned it useless.
- "Blackout, huh? I'd heard about it, but I thought they were only minor rumors - in response the challenger planted those eyes so dull and yet so threatening on his figure, hinting at the usual braggart smile - And you still haven't seen anything -
- Now I proceed to attack you directly with "Space Insectoid"-
The dragonfly-like creature with strong pincers launched itself at great speed against the opponent, hitting him repeatedly with its deadly weapons (6700-1800 = 4900) - I pass you the hand-
- I'd say you're not kidding either, right? - asked the albino, drawing from his deck - Even if your archetype reminds me of something, or someone... - he concluded, bursting into a roaring laugh. The guy didn't have all his marbles in the right place, that was for sure.
Kageshi = 4900 LP
Hand = 5
Graveyard = 3
Banished cards zone = 1
Deck = 31
Shiyuki = 8000 LP

Graveyard = 2

- Now you will be swallowed by darkness! I activate from my hand "Terror of the Blackout" thanks to which I can destroy a monster on the field of my opponent and inflict a damage of 500 points on him -
In a nanosecond the insect was sucked into a dark vortex generated within the area itself, from which came out a pitch black electric discharge that went to impact against the poor bicolor (8000 - 500 = 7500) -Then I put a monster and a face-down card and end my turn -
- Is that all? - asked the dark-haired man drawing from his deck - Honestly, with that statement you almost scared me, but now I find out it was just a bluff -
- I don't think it's convenient for you to provoke me, kid - retorted the other one.
- Could you have simply summoned a monster and attacked me directly, or is that too complicated an action for a puppet like you? - The boy was definitely playing with fire, and sooner or later he would have been burned.
- What about your face-down card? Or did you think I forgot? -
- That makes sense. Anyway, why don't we skip these trivial talks right now and go straight to the main course, which is who do you work for? - the boy asked again, one way or another he would find out.
- If you can beat me, I might even consider a little spoiler, assuming you meet that condition -.
- It will be a piece of cake -
- "I could try that combination, but I have to decide which one to choose, not to mention the fact that I can't ignore his placed cards." I activate the spell card "Premature Burial", paying 800 life points I can target a monster in my graveyard and summon it specially, return "Space Insectoid". Then I summon "Space Mambo" in an attack position -
An ichthyic creature flew over the battlefield, surrounded by strange cyan-colored circular patterns, probably belonging to another civilization (Lv4/Atk: 1700/ Def: 1000)
- It's time to overlay both of my level 4 monsters. With these two creatures I build the overlay network! From the nebula of the Beyondverse, the celestial-eyed dragon king is about to be born... and his power will eliminate anyone who threatens his realm, Xyz Summon ! Come into the world, Star-eyes Wyvern! -
A bipedal, draconic being roared onto the field, its mighty body bristling with ebony-colored scales alternating with cobalt-colored ones, ending with a long, snake-like tail that snaked along its entire figure. The head was surrounded by a membrava that gave it an amphibious or at least aquatic appearance and adorned with a pair of large horns that extended upwards and closed to form an open semicircle, followed by a second pair of horns, smaller than the previous ones and which extended towards the torso. A bioluminescent crest extended from the head to its tail, ending in small crystal-like spikes. Its eyes glowed a deep sapphire blue, as did the inside of its mouth, bristling with sharp fangs, giving it an even more menacing appearance. (Rank4/Atk: 2200; Def: 1500/ Material: 2)
- A very impressive beast - he limited himself to observing the albino
- Impressive is what I'm about to do - the duellist answered cheekily
-I activate the effect of "Star-Eyes Wyvern": by detaching one of its xyz materials once per turn (Material : 2-1 = 1), I can destroy a face-down card on your field and inflict 400 points of damage to you, I choose your placed monster -
In short, the monster emitted an intense flame of the same color as its eyes, vehemently hurling it at the opponent's creature silhouette, disintegrating it in a breath (4900 - 400 = 4500)
-Wrong choice kid, even though you destroyed my "Mystic Tomato", I don't think you can go any further - but the raven-haired man disagreed with this statement and in response he calmly proceeded with the following move
- I beg to differ! I discover the trap card " Call of the Hunted", thanks to which I can call into play "Space Insectoid" -
- I'm already starting to hate that slimy cockroach - commented the albino almost disgusted - But I don't understand what's the point -.
- I activate from my hand the spell card "Spatial Storm", which allows me to destroy all spell or trap cards on my opponent's field by banishing an faced-up "Space" monster that I control -
-Now everything is clear!- exclaimed the albino
- You don't stand a chance! Battle! Star-Eyes Wyvern attacks you directly... -
- Hold it right there! - the challenger's voice caught his attention -I activate the effect of "Blackout Invader" from my hand, by summoning it on the field in an attack position I can block your offensive. - A bipedal and completely shrouded in darkness creature materialized on the ground, It looked semi-humanoid, with a series of blades protruding from its shoulders and some sort of hood covered its head (Lv4/ Atk: 1600; Def: 1200)
- In this case, I put two cards down and end my turn-

- It's about time! I was beginning to get bored - said the boy drawing from his deck - I summon "Blackout Scout" in attack position and activate its effect, allowing me to draw a card from my deck. In addition, once per turn, I can select a spell or trap card in the opponent's field zone and destroy it. (Lv1/ Atk: 200 Def: 500)
- "A tuner monster " - observed the raven-haired man, following with his gaze that dark creature, monocled and provided with large wings covered with strange symbols and lines
- I tune "Blackout Invader" with the "Blackout Scout" tuner monster. (4+1=5) Darkness will begin to engulf everything in their advance! Synchro Summon! Rise from the sea of darkness from which you were born, Blackout Gravros-
A dark vortex similar to the one created earlier appeared on the field. From the center emerged a sea serpent whose blackish scales glistened in the rays of moonlight (Lv5/ Atk: 2300; Def: 1800)
-I immediately activate its effect: when this monster is Synchro summoned, I can choose an opponent's monster card zone and disable it. But that's not all, once per turn, I can choose a spell and trap card zone and if there is a placed card, I can destroy it and inflict 500 points of damage, but wait for the best, I can disable that same zone. I can say with certainty that this is an improved version of your stupid little lizard. -
A menacing grin appeared on the albino's face, enjoying while his monster inflicted damage on the opponent thanks to its special power (6700 - 500 = 6200) - Battle! My "Gravros" attacks "Star-Eyes Wyvern" . Dark Bite! - (6200 - 100 = 6100). - I put a face-down card and end my turn. Let's see how much longer you can hold out -
- I draw from the deck! - Shiyuki exclaimed, turning a glance towards the cosmos, the same gesture that had helped him countless times, sure that this time he would do it too - I activate "Card of Adversity", thanks to which if my opponent controls a specially summoned monster, I can draw 2 cards from my deck. It seems that luck hasn't deserted me yet. I proceed to activate the spell card "Space Starship Battle Calling", which allows me to summon, if I don't control any monster on my field, 2 "Space Starship" monsters of level 4 or lower from my deck. Takeoff, "Space Starship Proton Cannon" and "Space Starship Cusp Rescue Plane" -
On his field landed two vehicles respectively of circular shape and cream color for the first and from the shape similar to a semi-closed hedgehog, plated in a metal apparently resistant black color for the second. (Lv4/Atk: 1600; Def: 900); (Lv4/Atk: 1500; Def: 700)
- It almost seems as if your deck is ambivalent with monsters belonging to the same archetype but of attributes that in theory should give each other battle all the time- commented the albino
- And this is where you are wrong, it is possible, and it is as well as space, nor proof. A place where light and chaos coexist at the same time without prevailing one over the other, something amazing, moreover it's a mixture of different elements, exactly as our magnificent universe is - replied the other and in expressing that simple concept his look lit up, he loved that subject since he was a child, also thanks to a very important person. - But I can assure you that I have not yet shown you something truly exceptional. It's time to give you a beating of cosmic proportions. I overlay the two level 4 "Space Starship" monsters. With them I build my overlay network!Driven by cosmic nothingness and propelled by the impetuousness of the space winds, you pierce the galaxy with your annihilating laser fire and launch an assault reaching such speeds as to break the sound barrier itself, unleashing a lightning war with your mach missile launchers. Xyz Summon! Make my fleet unstoppable, Spaceship X - Shuttle Valkyrie -
A huge two-tone aircraft with delta wings materialized on the field (Rank4/ Atk: 2400; Def: 2000/ Material: 2)
- Yet another one of your stupid contraptions - commented the albino - I must remind you boy, we are not in space, we are .. -
- We are on Pandora! - intervened the young man
- What? -
- Nothing, nothing, a small quote ... but I note with regret that you did not understand -
- Back to us - he continued - Despite now having more points of attack, the outcome has not yet been decided -
- Whatever, I activate its effect: once per turn, by detaching a material xyz from this card, I can halve the attack of all non-"Spaceship" monsters discovered on the terrain until End Phase. - (2300:2 = 1150) (Material 2 -1 = 1)
- Damn! You took the opportunity to have no other monsters on the field and only hit my Gravros, but you'll pay for it! -
- If you say so. Go "Shuttle Valkyrie", attack Gravros - Missiles were launched at supersonic speed, impacting against the opponent's creature (4500 - 1250 = 3250) - I officially end my turn. Surprise me -

- You'll see - he answered drawing from the deck - First, I activate the effect of "Blackout Assailant" in my hand, detaching a xyz material from a faced-up monster on the field of my opponent, I can special summon this card from my hand -
A beast covered with thick and dark fur and with almost bioluminescent jaws made its entrance, absorbing the last unit of the Machine type monster - In this way you can say goodbye to the special power of your box - grinned the boy
- Yes. -
- Then I summon "Shadow of the Blackout" and activate its effect: once per turn, I can select a zone monster card and in case there is a monster, it loses 800 attack points and I choose the one from your tuna can - (Atk: 2400-800 = 1600)
- Hey, how dare you! - the boy exclaimed angrily, he couldn't stand the idea that someone could offend his beloved monsters.
-It's the hour of darkness! With my "Assailant" I declare an attack against your monster. (6100 -100 = 6000), then it's "Shadow of the Blackout"'s turn to deliver a direct hit (6000 - 1400 = 4600). I place a face-down card and pass you the hand
- Well, in the end you are not so bad - declared the boy drawing from the deck
- And the best is yet to come, I'm saving it all for the grand finale - replied the other one
- Then we'd better not keep you waiting - - I'll put a monster and a face-down card and end the turn. -

- A rather dull turn for a braggart like you - declared the albino as he draw, on the other hand, the young man did not utter a word - I activate the spell card "Penetrating Blackout", thanks to which, if one of my monsters attacks a monster in a defensive position, the difference will be deducted from your life points. Battle! "Blackout Assailant", destroy it. -
The terrible fair hurled itself at great speed against the opponent's card, revealing a creature similar to a carnivorous plant fused to a bipedal crocodile.
- I activate the effect by discovery of my "Acid Space Predator", destroying all faced-up cards on your field, up to the number of "space" monsters I control, and since I only control one, your "Shadow of Blackout" ends up in the graveyard -
- But you still suffer damage! - (4600 - 700 = 3900) - I end my turn. Next time you will succumb -
- Of course - the two-color mocked him - I summon "Astral Stargazer" and activate its effect: when this card is summoned via normal summoning, I can add from my deck to my hand a light attribute monster of level 4 or lower and I choose to add "Mythical Solar Dragon"- A beautiful colored bipedal dragon with two wings of almost ethereal consistency made its appearance (Lv4/ Atk:1600; Def: 2000)
- How do you think you'll attack now? - the albino asked
- Simple, using one of the face-down cards I had previously placed - the boy pointed out - You were so busy inflicting damage on me that you forgot that there was another placed on the field and it's just the case that I activate it -
- I activate the spell card "Desperate Maneuver": by paying 800 life points, I halve the attack of "Blackout Assailant" - (3900 - 800 = 3100);
- A risky and quite stupid move to bury a useful card like that, if I had drawn one of my monsters with that kind of effect, it would have been very bad for you -
- Yeah, but you know what they say in these cases, right? "The people who take risks are the ones you're going to lose to." -
- You little blowhard! -
- And now, Battle Phase! I attack your monster with "Astral Stargazer" (3250 - 750 = 2500) I end my turn -
Kageshi = 2500 LP Hand = 1 Graveyard = 12 Banished cards zone = 1 Deck = 26
Shiyuki = 3100 LP Hand = 2 Graveyard = 13 Banished card zone = 1 Deck = 25
- Now we are in the final acts - declared the duelist drawing from the deck - It's time for you to start fearing the dark. Since there are 3 or more "Blackout" monsters in my graveyard, I can special summon this monster from my hand. Pay homage to the monarch who doesn't know the meaning of mercy, but knows full well what destruction and ruin mean. Special Summoning! Bow before him, the Monarch of the Blackout! -
A dark vortex was instantly generated and the wind began to howl wildly, and a menacing figure emerged in all its magnificence. Massive and almost humanoid in appearance, it was largely concealed by shadows, but one could clearly make out a pair of massive ram's horns, arranged to entirely form an infinity symbol, and numerous tentacles sprouting from its abdomen. Something that expressed terror and power at the same time (Lv8/ Atk: 3500/ Def: 2800)
- What power! - exclaimed the raven-haired man in amazement.
- And you still haven't seen it in action - replied the albino - But first I'll disintegrate your stupid Wyrm. Dark absorption! - Two of the tentacles reached out and grabbed the unfortunate man.
- Stay where you are! - Shiyuki exclaimed - I activate the trap card "Negate Attack", thanks to which I cancel the attack of your monster and end the battle phase. -
- Tsk... you may have saved your little beastie from destruction, but I really want to see what you'll do with next move, Dark Storm! - A gloomy storm raged, expanding across the field of play, especially in the opposing half of the field.
- It's about its special power: As long as this card remains on the field, 3 of your monster card zones and 3 of your trap or spell card zones are disabled, and in combo I reveal the continuous trap card "Dark Area", it can only be activated if "Monarch of Blackout" is on my field, and as long as it remains uncovered on my land, I can disable 1 monster card zone and 1 spell/trap card zone. Now, since your only monster card zone is occupied by that chicken with wings and you only have one free spell/trap card zone, you have no choice but to succumb to the power of darkness - said the albino, exploding shortly afterwards into another loud and disturbing laugh.
- I'll never give up - the young man exclaimed at the top of his lungs.
- Do you intend to keep fighting? Even in a critical situation like this? - asked the adversary, confused by those words, so bold or so stupid.
- That's right, I can't absolutely not do it, I promised it to a very important person, the one who taught me to duel and to believe in my abilities and in those of my monsters, because they are always by my side... he is always by my side -
- Poor deluded man! Surrender and maybe I'll spare you this humiliation -
- Never! - replied the boy forcefully, drawing vigorously from his deck - I activate "Pot of Greed" from my hand, so I draw 2 cards from my deck.
- "It's time to play everything." - thought the boy, adding those two cards to his hand and seeing them, a satisfied smile appeared on his face - I activate from my hand the spell card "Space Nebula Tuning", thanks to which if on my field I control a monster of light attribute and in my hand there is a monster of the same attribute, I can perform a Synchro summoning using those two monsters as materials. -
- What?! Do you also know to use the synchro summons?! -
- Sure, what do you take me for? I tune level 4 "Astral Stargazer" and level 4 "Mythical Solar Dragon" which is in my hand. (4+4= 8) It's time for the real star of this duel to take the field! From the depths of the Beyondverse a new power awakens and its fury will sweep anyone in its path, Synchro Summon! Rise up, starry-eyed ruler, and annihilate those who dare to proclaim themselves our enemies, Star-Eyes ExplosiveCore Dragon! -
A minute-sized supernova exploded on the ground, blinding the two contenders with its glow. After a few seconds, something truly extraordinary had taken its place: A huge bipedal dragon with a night coat and equally huge wings decorated with star patterns, whose golden ends were shaped like a crescent moon. The draconic snout had an area similar to the night sky at the top, and whose eyes, similar in every way to stars of an intense blue sapphire, instilled awe, at the top of the head stood a long and sharp horn shaped like a star but with three cream-colored tips, four horns similar to the previous but of small size, rather short and golden contoured that being so spectacular: two at the sides of the head and two at the sides of the snout. Around his neck he wore what appeared to be a sort of collar with rather sharp spikes. His torso was reminiscent of a ribcage, with something resembling a nucleus glowing in the center, with slightly curved spikes at his shoulders and three more downward, extending to his tail, which was also quite powerful and ended in a golden crescent-shaped pendant. The upper limbs were composed of three pairs of long, tapered claws, as well as another set of smaller, fin-like wings that were bicolored like the rest of the body. The lower ones, were muscular and purple in color, except for the claws on the legs, which were an almost pearly white. The entire belly was adorned with white spatial patterns, blending harmoniously with the purplish color of the scales. (Lv8/ Atk: 2500; Def: 2000)
- One of my most faithful allies, as well as being a member of my family and one of my best friends, in short, the personification of my soul - explained the young man, ecstatic to see his "Ace Monster" on his field.
- Well... I must admit that he is a splendid exemplar... - said the albino
-...And your worst nightmare - added Shiyuki - I immediately activate its effect: When this beautiful dragon is Synchro summoned, I can target a Dragon or Wyrm type monster in my graveyard and equip it with this card, I choose "Star-Eyes Wyvern". -
Can you equip him with a xyz monster?! - asked his opponent incredulously
- I can do better - replied the other one - My monster gains attack equal to the level/rank of the monster multiplied by 500 -
- What?! -
- Go, Astral Absorption! - (4x500 = 2000/ 2500 + 2000 = 4500)
- It's a war machine! -
- Battle! I attack your "Monarch of the Blackout", but first I banish "Astral Stargazer" from play to activate its effect: when one of my light attribute monsters attacks, you may not activate any spell/trap cards or monster effects that target my dragon until the end of the turn. Now, Disintegrate it! - The dragon emitted something very similar to a supernova of titanic proportions from its jaws, then launched it towards the Fiend- type monster. (2500-1000 = 1500)
- I'm sorry for you, but as you can see I haven't lost yet - said the challenger
- Yes, but I didn't say I finished my turn -.
- I really want to see what else you will pull out of your hat -.
- Be careful what you wish for, it might come true. I activate the second effect of my dragon... -
- Yet another effect, but that....
- Yep. Once per turn, I can choose a Dragon or Wyrm type monster faced-up on my field as a target, and by discarding a card from my hand, it can attack a second time. Of course, I choose my "Star-Eyes" -
- It's not possible, I can't lose... -
- Go "Star-Eyes ExplosiveCore Dragon", Emperor's Proton Supernova! - (1500 - 4500 = 0) -
-Nooooo! -
- Now you have to tell me who you're working for - declared the boy after the game holograms dissipate
- Sorry - replied his challenger - I can only tell you to watch your back, because the threats you'll face from here on out will be far worse than me or anything you've ever faced - concluded the boy, vanishing into the darkness in the night and leaving Shiyuki with a lot more questions. But he didn't have time to think further, as an individual wrapped in a long cloak and whose face was hidden by the hood appeared before him.
- And who might you be? - the young man asked exasperated, that day seemed more and more strange.
- All in good time young Shiyuki - replied the mysterious character - I only came here to inform you that the guy you fought against was not alone, and that your friends could be in danger - concluded the guy before disappearing.
- "I have to go to Ren" - thought the young man jumping in the saddle of his bolide and as soon as he put on his helmet, he proceeded to make a call from his device, pressing the appropriate button located on the right side of that object
- I need your help, you have to run to Isabel now! - said the young man before disappearing.
