Chapter 5 – A Fiery Duel Part 2
-I'm not afraid of you - replied the two-toned man, watching the girl with ice-blue eyes draw from his deck - I'll do what I must - concluded the young man, while the ravenous werewolf emitted a frightening roar, as if to indicate that he would always be at his side.

- I activate the trap card "Dragging Wave": by shuffling 2 water monsters in my graveyard into my deck, I can draw 2 cards. The monsters I shuffle are "Star Boy" and "Abyss Warrior". From my hand I proceed to activate the continuous spell card "Water Hazard" that allows me to summon, once per turn, a Water attribute monster of level 4 or lower, provided, however, that my monster card area is clear. Come forth, "Absorbifont Tigris" - A whirlwind of water materialized within the field, raging like a beast, from which then emerged a medium-sized, quadrupedal figure, made entirely of water and covered in bluish stripes, emitting a roar even louder than that of the canine and displaying long, glistening ivory canines. (Lv3/Atk: 700/Def: 900)
- Absorbifont? - asked the young man incredulously - But what kind of monsters would they be? I've never heard of them -
- You'll find out - replied the other one, hinting at a smirk - Now I normally summon the monster "Absorbifont Nylus" - Another being made his appearance, this time, however, his appearance was similar to a humanoid figure, but on whose face was printed a disturbing grin, also was completely devoid of lower limbs (Lv3/ Atk: 1200/Def: 1000) - Then I activate from my hand "Torrential Cyclone", thanks to which by paying 1000 life points I can destroy 2 trap/spell cards present on your field -
-Do you inflict damage on yourself just to get rid of my face cards? Seems redundant to me... -
- I don't think I gave the impression of being a fool - the girl retorted - You should have realized that "everything has a reason" or something like that. And you will get a taste of it soon -.
- I activate the effect of "Absorbifont Tigris": Once per turn, when I'm about to take damage, I can negate it and gain life points equal to the number of monsters evoked by special summoning on both our fields multiplied by 200: It should not be difficult to do the calculation, since the monsters are 2, including the same "Tigris", I would say that amounts to about 400 points. - (4000 + 400 = 4400)
- Incredible...has negated a damage from effect... - murmured the rather shocked boy.
- Actually I haven't finished yet. At the same time the power of "Nylus" is activated, thanks to which I can negate the same damage inflicted on me and gain life points equal to the same - (4400 + 1000 = 5400)
- It can't be... -
-I activate the "Absorbifont Emulsion" spell card from my hand, which allows me to fuse both of my monsters to summon an even more powerful one.
- Huh? Do you also know how to use fusion summons? - the blond boy asked
- Are you surprised? Still, even a sucker like you can do it.
- How dare you... Who are you really? -
- I fuse "Absorbifont Tigris" and "Absorbifont Nylus" - declared the girl, totally ignoring the question posed by the duelist - Now you will see something really sparkling, my most recent purchase. Considered from the beginning as a mere legend, you are now able to prove otherwise. Emerge from the rippling icy waters and take shape on the current that carries the life of every world. Fusion Summoning! Born, faithful servant of the oceans, Absorbifont Australis! - Rushing waves with a crystalline appearance poured over the battlefield, bringing out a humanoid figure, graceful and elegant, whose hair resembled a moving wave (Lv6/Atk: 2000/Def: 1200)
- It doesn't seem to be that threatening - the young man began
- Well... - the girl squinted her overseas eyes for a moment - Appearances are often deceiving-
- Shot and sunk - retorted the other.
-The effect of "Absorbifont Nylus" is activated: when used for a Fusion Summon, I can draw a card from the deck. - replied the girl drawing that additional card and once her eyes met it, a grin started to appear on her face - In addition, thanks to the effect of "Absorbifont Emulsion" I gain life points equal to the highest defense of one of the two materials used for the evocation of "Australis", that is 1000 points, then, always due to the effect of the same, you receive damage equal to the highest attack of one of the two, that is 1200 points - (5400 + 1000 = 6400)
- Ouch...! - exclaimed the boy as soon as he was overwhelmed by the fury of the water, backing away slightly (4900 - 1200 = 3700)
- "In a short period of time she was able to recover almost all of her life points, she's really good. Also, I should be on my guard, or she might decimate mine" -
- Battle! My "Australis" attacks "Burning Horror Werewolf" -
- You're crazy! My monster has more attack points than yours -.
- Shouldn't I be the one to worry about that? Let's go, Australis! -
The creature lashed out at that beast, sweeping it away with the fury of its tides - You should know that once per turn this card cannot be destroyed, plus you take damage equal to your monster's attack, and as if that wasn't enough, I can undo the damage you would have dealt me and add an "Absorbifont" spell card to my hand and I choose "Absorbifont Vortex" -
- F***! However, I activate the effect of "Burning Horror Kuriboh ": by discarding it from my hand, I can reduce by half the damage you would have inflicted on me, then I can draw a card from my deck - (2800:2 = 1400) (3700 - 1400 = 2300)
- What a bore you are! I'll have to entertain myself some other way. I reveal the trap card "Vital Source" thanks to which I can specially summon from my graveyard an "Absorbifont" monster, "Nylus" returns, so it will inflict damage equal to half the attack of the summoned monster, but you don't need me to explain its effect, right? - (6400 + 600 = 7000)
- What an absurd and convoluted strategy, to pay life points to gain effects, so much so that you could negate the damage and gain other effects... My head is spinning just thinking about it... -
-Yeah, it happens when you're a sucker., I guess I underestimated you too much. Now I activate from my hand the spell card "Absorbifont Vortex": I offer as tribute "Nylus" and I pay 800 life points to destroy a monster controlled by my opponent. Say hello to your little friend... because he's about to go to the kennel! - In a moment, the Fire-type monster was sucked into a whirlpool, which appeared right under his feet - (7000 - 800 = 6200)
- My monster... but this time you self-inflicted damage without being able to negate it...hehe... -
- I don't find anything funny about that, you decerebrate. Things don't always work out the way they want to and this is proof of that -
- What are you referring to? -
- Nothing - replied the girl dryly - I'm finishing my turn -
- It's about time! - replied the young man drawing from his deck - "I must try to come back as soon as possible". I activate from my hand the spell card " Rekindling " that allows me to summon from my graveyard as many fire monsters as possible as long as they have 200 defense points, but I'll have to banish them during the End Phase.
- I already know what you would like to do and also who you are going to call - the duellist declared with a smile
- If you put it that way...then nothing should surprise you. Return "Burning Horror Ghost" and "Burning Horror Goo". I then proceed to activate the special power of "Burning Horror Goo" thanks to which I can fuse two "Burning Horror" monsters including the same and summon a monster from my Extra Deck. -
- I can feel another bold challenger coming on, I can't wait -
- Hold on tight, the show is about to go on! - exclaimed the boy raising a fist towards the sky, a gesture that made his challenger stunned.
- "Those words…" -
- Behold another of fear's frightening creations. Ravenous creature and beast of vengeance, reduce our enemies to ashes and let your incandescent fury sweep anything in your path. Summon for fusion! Here comes the scariest monster you've ever seen and it can either be your favorite animal or your worst nightmare, Burning Horror Angry Bear! -
Here the smoking cloud seen previously appeared again and a guttural sound expanded nearby, revealing a huge beast that stood out against the light of the fire. Thick wisps of sinew bound her limbs to her torso like a seam and tongues of fire danced across her fur and her very eyes glowed an intense red, as if they too were engulfed in flames (Lv8 / Atk: 2800 / Def: 2000)
-Another impressive little friend, huh? - asked the girl
- Yeah... - replied the young man - Many have nicknamed him Freddy or Tibbers, but I honestly don't know why... Unlike Shiyuki, I don't have such a close relationship with my monsters - said the young man, scratching the back of his head.
- What do you mean by that? -
- Even though you know everything about us, you seem to have missed this little piece of information, in fact... is so absurd that it's not worth considering -.
- Explain yourself better! - said the duellist, pointing her cold eyes on the figure in front of her.
- Well, according to him, he can speak and see the spirits of the monsters in his deck, but only those of living beings, I know what you're thinking... he's totally loco, every time he says that, I always think he's pulling my leg... -
- Interesting... -
- Apparently... I mean, it's true that Solid Vision has made great strides, and now holograms seem so real, so much so that we can interact with them... but from here to even talking to them... it's a long way off... -
- But you can only talk to your own? -
- He says yes. But we're not here to discuss that, the show must go on! I activate the effect of "Burning Horror Angry Bear": once per turn, by discarding a card from my hand, I can destroy a card on the ground and I choose "Absorbifont Australis". - The opponent's monster was wiped out in a few seconds by a violent blaze. - Moreover, thanks to the effect of "Burning Horror Ghost", it gains a good 400 attack points - (2800+400 = 3200)
- And well done our Mr. Homura, since he couldn't be destroyed in battle and was immune to the effects of your trap and spell cards, you thoughtfully used the effect of a monster - Observed the young girl
- Yes... now I can attack you directly. Go "Angry Bear", Ashen Fury! - The fearsome beast lashed out with such fury that it would reduce everything to dust, if it were real, of course. (6200 - 3200 = 3000) - I put a face-down card and end my turn -
- One moment! - the challenger interrupted him - The special power of "Australis" is activated: during the End Phase, if this card has been sent to the graveyard as a result of a battle or by the effect of a Special Summoned monster, I can perform an Xyz Summoning of an "Absorbifont" monster of rank 4 or lower, using it as an overlay unit.
- An Xyz summoning using a Fusion monster?... -
- Feast your eyes. Lush water, breathe life again and bring forth another of your fearsome minions from the depths. Xyz Summon! Mighty champion of the ocean, rise from the waters and demolish all who dare stand in my way, Absorbifont Atlas! - The field was again invaded by the waves, from which emerged, in all its pride, a humanoid and herculean figure, a real giant, characterized by a kind of ultramarine crystal placed on top of the head. (Rank: 4/Atk:2500/Def: 1000/ Material: 1)
-You don't give up huh?... I'm almost glad, I hate challenges that aren't challenging -
- And this one will be more challenging than the labors of Hercules! - exclaimed the girl drawing from the deck
Mai = 3000 LP

-Since you don't have any cards in your hand, the effect of that overgrown stuffed animal is totally useless - the girl observes.
- You see, it activates the second effect of "Angry Bear", which is something I can also activate on my opponent's turn if I can't fulfill the first one, so, I can inflict 800 points of damage for every face-down card in your spell/trap card area, say 1600 points, or at least I think so, hehee -
- Then I guess I'll resort to the "Absorbifont Indos" effect: when I'm about to receive effect or battle damage, I can discard this card from my hand and negate it immediately. A useless gesture, if not for the purpose of decreasing the cards at my disposal, but I doubt that a mollusk like you can think of these countermoves, unlike your little friend, although I just heard that he is in extreme difficulty against my colleague ... -
- Don't you dare to think such a thing, Shiyuki is one of the best and most promising duelists around, second only to me - replied the boy, puffing up his chest.
- You give yourself a lot of airs for someone who travels towards his own defeat, but happy you...Battle! Go "Atlas", hurl yourself on that roast, Titanic Wave! - An immense wave rose up around it, you could almost hear its fierce gurgling, sweeping the fiery creature with its fury...
-But you're completely crazy! - exclaimed the blondie - My monster has more attack points than yours, unless... -
- Exactly - intervened the challenger - Once per turn, I can detach a xyz material from this card, it is not destroyed and you take the damage that I should have received, which despite what you may consider, is still a fair amount... (2300 - 700 = 1600) Also, if the monster you fought against is a special summoned monster, I can add an "Absorbifont" monster from my deck to my hand and choose "Absorbifont Danubis ". Then I discover the "Waterfall of Sources" trap card, which allows me to target a monster on my opponent's terrain and negate its effects until the end of my next turn. But wait, the fun is yet to come. Since I control an "Absorbifont" monster and you control a special summoned monster, I can perform the special summoning of "Absorbifont Danubis", directly from my hand - A silvery, lupine creature enters the field, characterized by a graceful physiognomy and undulating movements (Lv4/Atk: 2000/Def: 1500) - The effect of my monster is activated: when it is summoned in this way, I can draw 2 cards from the deck. I put a face-down card and end the turn -
- Urca... I was almost falling asleep - the boy said drawing from his deck, simulating a yawn and watching that card, a small smile appeared on his face - Now you will see how strong the bond between me and my best friend can be, using the same card he gave me that day. I activate from my hand the spell card "Space Singularity", thanks to which, if on the field of my opponent there is a xyz monster lacking xyz materials, I can destroy it and draw from my deck a number of cards equal to the rank of the monster that has just been destroyed. Finally a titan has fallen -
- I wouldn't sing victory too soon, but maybe I should let you have your five minutes of glory, I'm not the kind of person who appreciates spoilers -
- Actually neither am I, but neither is being in the dark, let's say somewhere in between. Anyway, Battle! Go "Angry Bear", disintegrate "Danubis" - (3000 - 1200 = 1800). I'll put a face-down card and let you have your turn, mademoiselle -.
- How kind - replied the girl drawing energetically from the deck
Mai = 1800 LP

- Now it's time to dance! - exclaimed the girl with an eerie grin - Since there are 4 or more "Absorbifont" monsters in my graveyard, I can special summon this card from my hand. Pay homage to the monarch of the deep, ready to unleash his terrible tides against those who dare to threaten the place from which all life was born! Special Summoning! Bow before his majesty, Pacifer, the Absorbifont Monarch! - A whirlpool of biblical proportions was instantly generated, and mammoth waves invaded the field, submerging every corner of it, almost as if they were real. From the center of this calamity, an imposing humanoid figure emerged, much more than the others, composed entirely of water and spewing pure power from every pore. In his hand he wielded a trident and a crown adorned his head. On either side of the body, so massive and defined, sprouted long, mighty tentacles. (Lv8/Atk: 3500/Def: 2800)
- I foresee colossal troubles - declared the young man in amazement - It's even stronger than my monster.
- And you haven't even had a taste of its potential yet. I can say that I will beat you using a card that has always been considered by everyone as useless, a bit like someone I know, but that here and now will have its own moment of redemption -
- I still don't understand -
-And you don't need it! I activate the "Resurfacing Layer" spell card from my hand, so I can resurrect a monster with water attribute level 2 or lower from my graveyard. Return to us "Star Boy" - A scarlet starfish-like creature has resurfaced on the ground, characterized by the presence of a single eye and an eerie grin and numerous tendril-like tentacles. (Lv2/ Atk: 550/Def: 500)
- Normally a novice duelist would be very confused by this questionable choice of yours-.
- How about you? -
- I say I'm in a sea of trouble right now...big trouble! -
- The only intelligent thing you've said since the duel began. I activate the "Star Boy" effect, so all Water monsters gain 500 attack points and all Fire monsters lose 400 attack points. (Atk: 550 + 500 = 1050) (Atk: 3500 + 500 = 4000) (Atk: 3200 - 400 = 2800) -
- F*** -
- Yeah, and as if that wasn't enough the effect of "Waterfall of Sources" is still active and you can't save yourself from oblivion! Battle! My "Pacifer" attacks " Angry Bear". Divine judgment!- The colossus stretched out his trident and a wave of epic dimensions sprang up from his shoulders, crashing down with fury on the creature, which disappeared in a flash...
- I have to warn you about my monster's special power, power that will allow me to win this turn, you see, when "Pacifer" destroys a monster in battle it inflicts double damage on you -
- What? -
- Goodbye! - (4000 - 2800 = 1200 x2 = 2400)
- Not so fast, little princess. From my graveyard I banish " Burning Horror Kuriboh", this way all the damage I take this turn is halved -(2400:2 = 1200, 1600 -1200 = 400)
- But I haven't finished my offensive yet. Go Star Boy! Even though the damage will be reduced, it will still be enough to get you out of the way -
- Are you underestimating me too much, or maybe you forgot about my faced-down card? I activate the trap card "Burning Horror Roar", I can only activate it in case my opponent makes a direct attack and it allows me to end Battle Phase and summon two "Burning Horror" monsters from my graveyard, but their effects will be negated and their Atk and Def reduced to zero. Return once again, " Burning Horror Ghost" and "Burning Horror Goo" -.
- Your insulting little monsters are starting to annoy me, although with their effects blocked, you can't resort to that of your jelly. But I really want to see what you're capable of up to, so...I'll end my turn -
- As you wish, mademoiselle... - murmured the young man, drawing from his deck - Ladies and gentlemen... are you ready for the final show? The stage is set and like any self-respecting entertainment duelist, so am I. That's why I ask you to open your eyes and watch my moves carefully, I don't want you to miss every single detail -
- Who the hell are you talking to? There's no one here but us -
- Details... I activate the spell card "Polymerization" which allows me to fuse both monsters on my field... -
- That was my goal all along, to get you to summon your Ace Monster... -
- Then I'm afraid I must disappoint you, my darling -
- What? -
-It's not a favorable situation for its entry, so I'll just call in a replacement, but one who will still be able to stand up for himself. Did you think I was foolish enough to unleash my terrible beast? Big mistake... So, I fuse "Burning Horror Ghost" and "Burning Horror Goo" to create something truly terrifying. Buckle up! Ravenous creature that weaves webs of terror, wrap your prey in your trap and let the fire consume them! Fusion Summoning! Here comes another of the ancestral incarnations of fear, Burning Horror Spider Cannon ! - A wall of flames rose upward and a strange screeching sound swept through the air, later revealing a treacherous and ravenous looking creature. It had eight legs and a multitude of ebony-colored fangs protruding from its mouth. The body, round and rather large compared to the rest of the figure, was crisscrossed with a similar reddish vein and its equally numerous eyes peered menacingly at the girl with hair like the sea, large and bright, almost as if they were burning embers (Lv7/ Atk: 2400/Def: 2000)
- What do you plan to do with that wretched little insect? -
- First, it gains 400 attack points thanks to the special power of " Burning Horror Ghost " (2400 - 400 = 2000 + 400 = 2400)
- But it's still not enough to stop "Pacifer" -
- I think it does. I discard the "Burning Horror Evil Root" monster from my hand to activate its effect: you can't activate trap/spell cards or monster effects to prevent me from attacking or activating my cards' effects for the rest of the turn. So I've blocked any countermoves that might prevent me from winning this turn. -
- Damn! -
- Then I activate the effect of "Burning Horror Spider Cannon ": once per turn, I can destroy a monster on your terrain that was Special Summoned and inflict you damage equal to its original attack, however this card cannot attack during the turn in which it activates this effect. Come on, friend. Horror Flamethrower!- The creature opened its jaws wide, emitting an intense flaming vermilion stream, which could have razed an entire city to the ground, reducing the imposing titan to a pile of dust
- It can't be! - (1600 -3500 = 0)
- Thank you all, you are a wonderful audience! - exclaimed the boy making a small bow, then slowly approaching his opponent - Now you should give me some explanations if you don't mind -
- I'm not going to tell you a thing - growled the young girl - But I suggest you watch your back, little one. All will be revealed in due time - she concluded, before turning around and disappearing into the darkness of that dreadful night.
- Damn it! I hate secrets and all this mystery - protested the blondie, but he was interrupted by the now unmistakable roar of an engine.
- Look, look. You're late, Shiyuki -
- I rushed here as fast as I could, after having beaten that insulting man who dared to call himself a duelist, but I didn't get a single shred of information. Then I heard that my favorite little guy was in trouble, and I rushed to save you -
- How kind! But as you can see, this "little guy" can handle himself better than you can-
- Obviously! - replied the boy with a smirk - So, any news? -
- Nada. All I know is that everything will be explained shortly and that your Isabel is in great danger -
- It's all very strange. I don't understand anything anymore. Anyway, don't worry, Isabel is in very good hands -
- Explain yourself.
- I asked for help from the only person I trust, besides you, of course, -
- Don't tell me that... -
- Precisely! -
- Wow! - exulted the boy - And that we are waiting. I've always wanted to see him in action -
- Yeah... -
- And don't make that face. If you only knew how much I envy you, then it could finally be a good opportunity to reconnect -
- You've talked too much. You'd better get on your saddle if you don't want me to leave you here - ordered the two-toned man, leaving at great speed to reach again the other side of the metropolis, ready to rush to the aid of the beautiful Isabel and the mysterious duellist.
