Devilman: The Power of Amon
The Power Within
Amon has seen many things in his very long life. He participated in battles that lasted centuries, experienced the carnal pleasure of the most beautiful creatures in existence, seen such horrors that would make even the most hardened demon cower at their mere sight without flinching.
So why, in all the nine circles of Hell, was this the most annoying thing he experienced?
Going to school.
In order to continue his façade, Amon needed to attend high school as Akira Fudo. And from the memories he got from Akira, the school seemed like a minor annoyance. Experiencing it in person, it was a far bigger annoyance.
What the hell were the children here supposed to do with all that useless knowledge? Unless they decide to become mathematicians or something like that, all those math formulas would be useless. And why even bother to learn some political terms, when Amon was sure that actual politicians have never even heard of them?
Amon really struggled not to just transform into his true form and burn this place out of existence. It was just a huge waste of time. In the world he lived in, the way of life was simple 'be born, try to survive, good luck' but this was so overly complicated and unnecessary that it was absurd.
He took a deep breath and calmed himself. This was only temporary, and when he sorted all things out and began burning everything, this place would be the first to go.
"Hey, Akira. Are you alright?" Amon heard from behind him and saw Miki looking at him in concern. "You seem agitated. Is something wrong?"
"Bah, it's nothing," 'Akira' dismissed. "Tell me, when does the track practice start?"
"We still have Chemistry before we can practice. Don't you remember?"
"Right, right." It would seem like Amon still had to put some memories in their place.
Then he felt Miki put a hand on his shoulder, gaining his attention. "Look, Akira, I know things have been hard after… you know. But you'll pull through, we all will. And if you need someone to confide yourself in, you know I'm here for you."
Amon had to admire the girl's sentiment and compassion. No wonder she was such a good friend to Akira Fudo since kindergarten.
"Is that so?" he asked with a smile.
Miki nodded. "Of course. What kind of a friend would I be if I didn't help you?"
Amon then took her hand in his and put his other hand around her waist, which surprised her and made her blush from such an unexpected action.
He then moved his face closer to her, which only made her blush harder and caused her eyes to go wide "I'm very happy you said that, Miki," Amon said. "Your presence would be very… comforting."
"A… Akira?" she stammered.
"Well, well, look at those lovebirds!" someone shouted from across the school hall. That one came from a tall student with slick back hair, the one they knew as Dosu, and he was accompanied by three others. Masa, who had a small ponytail and a scar over his eye, a chubbier one with longer brown hair and a cap named Meriken-Jo, and the last one was short and pretty thin with black hair that reached his shoulders, Ken.
"Hey, Dosu, looks like those two are finally open with it," Meriken-Jo said grinning.
"I mean, it was pretty obvious from the start," Ken said with a cackle.
Amon let out a slight growl as he saw those four. He remembered them being a bunch of bullies who liked to pick on Akira, and they did right before Akira went to the Himalayas with his father so they were pretty easy to remember.
He just knew that they would be annoying, just like they were now when he was making his moves on Miki.
"Will you four piss off? I'd rather not deal with you right now," Amon said as he gave them a slight glare.
"Oh, well this is a surprise," Ken said, slightly surprised by Akira's new attitude towards them. "Looks like Akira's balls finally dropped."
The four laughed at that before approaching the two.
Miki just narrowed her gaze before scoffing and grabbing Akira by the arm. "Come on, let's leave before those guys get any funny ideas."
To her shock, 'Akira' wretched his arm out of her grasp and turned towards the bullies. "I think I can handle myself."
Dosu chuckled. "Well, today is full of surprises," he said as he got close to Akira. "Not running away this time? I'm impressed."
"Guys, right now isn't a good time," Miki said, trying to reason with them.
"There is a good time? Sorry, we didn't get the memo," Masa said as he slightly cracked his knuckles.
"Besides, what can little Akira here- Gah!"
Dosu was surprised when 'little Akira' suddenly grabbed him by the throat and lifted him up, earning some exclaimed shocks from the bullies and a bewildered expression from Miki.
Amon smirked as he looked at the surprised Dosu, who tried to pry off his grip as the hand around his throat tightened. "What? You don't have anything else to say?"
Masa snapped out of it first and glared at Akira while bearing his fist. "Hey, let him go, you bastard!" he exclaimed as he saw his friend getting choked.
Amon shrugged. "As you wish." He then threw Dosu at the three of his friends, who all screamed as Dosu slammed into them, causing all four to drop loudly on the floor.
'Akira' chuckled as he saw the four groaning bullies on the floor before turning away. "Anyway, didn't we have Chemistry, Miki?" he said before walking away.
Miki still looked shocked at what happened. Akira, the young and compassionate young man who she was sure wouldn't hurt a fly, not to mention the one who many labeled a 'crybaby', just picked up Dosu by the throat and threw him like he was nothing.
She then looked back at the four as they slowly got up, with Dosu nursing his throat before she slowly went back to join Akira, with her gaze still lingering on the downed delinquents.
When Chemistry was over, which made Amon almost thank God that it was, they quickly found themselves on the track for practice. Amon found himself dressed in Akira's training clothes, which were a short-sleeved shirt and black shorts as well as some running shoes. Miki on the other hand wore two-piece green and white track clothes consisting of a sports bra and shorts.
Amon couldn't help but stare at her. Those clothes revealed a pretty good amount of her athletic body. She may not have been the most 'gifted' of the women he had seen but she was definitely up there when it came to beauty.
The demon then turned to the other person with them, Miko. Or Miki Kuroda, but to avoid confusion they called her Miko. She was a redhead, with her hair kept in a ponytail for the practice, and she was dressed similarly to Akira, white shirt and black shorts. Unlike Miki, she was definitely more filled out. She had a wider waist, and her chest was also sizable, somewhat straining against her shirt.
Not that Amon minded. Not a single bit.
Miko herself was doing some stretches, ready to once again have their time measured when she noticed that Akira was looking at her. Well, not looking as much as he was… checking her out. Miko blinked as she felt her cheeks heat up. Akira never looked at her like that, at least to her knowledge. He seemed to only ever be interested in Miki Makimura so the fact that he was staring at her was… somewhat flattering to be honest, especially since he wasn't bad-looking.
"Um, Akira, you're," Miko began as her gaze went to the side. "You're… staring." She may like the attention, but she had enough decency to point it ou.
Akira looked at her confusingly. "Alright? So what?"
Miko looked at him shocked. Did he seriously say that? He didn't find anything weird with him staring at her like that? Was this really the same kind boy from just a few weeks ago? She just couldn't wrap her head around that.
"Hey, is everything alright, you two?" Miki asked after she saw the two interact.
Miko jolted out of her thoughts before shaking her head. "No, no, it's nothing. Just a little chat."
Miko then saw Akira give a smirk before turning to Miki and nodding. "Yeah, just a little banter between friends."
Miki smiled. "Well, it's a good thing that didn't change about you. Now come on, we're about to time our running speeds."
"Right," both Miko and 'Akira' said at the same time.
Then they got into positions, hands on the floor and one knee on the ground. Then the gunshot that signaled the start was heard, and the runners quickly dashed away from their positions.
However, everyone was surprised by what happened next. Akira then immediately moved past them, making everyone look shocked. Akira was definitely the slowest runner on the team, yet now here he is suddenly leaving them in the dust.
Amon smirked as he ran. He knew that Akira wasn't the most physically accomplished person around, but possession has its perks, easily having increased strength, endurance, and speed even in human form, making him easily superior to most humans in the world.
He may not like whatever these people are teaching in this school, but when it comes to physical activities he had more of an opportunity to show off.
He turned back to see that he had passed everyone, easily taking the lead. But then he saw the shocked looks on their faces, and everyone in the stands looking at him like he was some sort of demon, which was quite ironic.
'Damn it, you overdid it, you idiot! Slow down!' Amon mentally berated himself and drastically decreased his speed just as he reached the finish line.
"10.03 seconds!" the announcer said after she clicked her stopwatch.
Several people exclaimed in shock and surprise after seeing the previously least capable runner of the team easily break Miki's record, which was around thirteen seconds, and she was the fastest runner on the team.
"Did you all see that?"
"That was amazing!"
"What did Akira do during the break to get so fast?"
"Could it be steroids?"
Amon silently cursed himself for being too prideful for his own good. He wanted to show off but he showed off too much. He wasn't going full speed, but even then he would have broken the human record. And he definitely didn't need that kind of attention yet.
"Wow, that was amazing, Akira!" Miki exclaimed as she ran up to her friend. "How did you do it?"
Amon blinked for a moment. "Um, well, it must have been the wind," he said. 'The wind? The fucking WIND?! That's the best I could come up with?! I may as well have told her I was taking some fairy dust!'
Miki tilted her head in confusion. "Really? The wind?" she said before smiling. "I think you're being a bit too modest. There is no shame in your accomplishments."
'Man, this girl,' Amon thought. 'I pretty much took her spot as the fastest runner on the team and all she can think of is complimenting me? Did God took the concept of 'kind' and made it into her?'
"Hey, Miki!" a girl from the stands called. "Mr. Nagasaki is calling you for another shoot!"
Oh, yeah, that was another thing about Miki. She was pretty popular around these parts, her reputation as a runner preceding her, and her good looks getting her picture in many magazines. She was practically a celebrity.
And Koji Nagasaki was the one who took her pictures, though Amon had doubts if the man wanted the thing to be purely professional.
Miki sighed. "Tell him to hold on for a little! I'll be right there!" she said before turning back to Akira. "Sorry, but I have to go. We won't be going home together like usual."
Amon shrugged. "Don't worry about it. I'm a big boy, I can take care of myself," he said as he gave her a toothy grin.
Miki chuckled. "I bet you can," she said before walking away and giving him a wave. "See you later, Akira!"
Seeing her go, Amon turned to see Miko retreating as well, and he could help but smile at the devious idea forming in his mind.
Miko moved past the school gates, carrying her bag on her back and her hair out of her ponytail, letting her long hair flow down.
She had a lot on her mind about what happened today, most of it concerning Akira. When she heard from Miki that he came back from his tragedy changed, she didn't think he would have been changed that much. He was a lot more bold and confident than before.
And the other thing that bothered her a bit, Akira at the track practice today. Miko always tried to be the best she could be at running, and when she was the fastest member of the team it gave her a sense of pride in herself. Like she was accomplishing something.
But when Miki beat her and became the fastest team member, she honestly couldn't help but feel jealous. And considering that Miki was so popular that Miko couldn't even call herself 'Miki' despite it being her real name seemed like salt on the wound.
And now Akira came, and he left Miki in the dust with his running, making Miko's chances even slimmer than before.
She sighed before shaking her head. She shouldn't be thinking that. Akira and Miki were her friends, and they had her back ever since they were little kids.
"Hey there, Miko."
Miko halted and yelped in surprise as she heard a familiar voice coming from behind her. She saw Akira leaning on the wall at the school entrance with his arms crossed.
He let out a chuckle. "Sorry about that, didn't mean to scare you," he said before walking up with his hands in his pockets. "What do you say I escort you home? I don't remember the last time only the two of us spent time together."
Miko blinked in surprise. "You… you want to… I mean, yeah, sure."
'Akira' let out a smirk. "Great to hear it. Now, come on!"
The two then walked, with Miko slightly blushing several times. She honestly couldn't believe that Akira was walking home with her. He only did so with Miki. Sure they would sometimes hang out together, but with it only being her and Akira, it almost never happened.
They were silent for the most part. However, when they neared the apartment complex where Miko was living, Akira began speaking.
"I hope you don't hate me," he said.
That question caught her off guard. "What… what do you mean? Why would I hate you?"
"Because I know you, Miko. You've always strived to be the best and catch up to Miki, only for me to come here and make another barrier for you. One that is even harder to breach," he replied before looking at her softly. "I would understand if that was how you felt."
Miko stepped in front of him. "Don't be ridiculous, Akira! True, I'm not exactly thrilled about not being at your level, but that doesn't mean I hate you! You and Miki are my friends!" She then gave sigh to calm herself. "Running is important to me, but my friendships even more so. I could never hate, neither Miki… nor you."
Amon's mouth twitched upward in a grin before he wrapped his arm around her waist and moving her closer, shocking for the umpteenth time this day. "I am so glad to hear that."
Then he leaned down, and kissed her right on the lips, making Miko's eyes grow wide. Her brain stopped functioning for several moments as she felt Akira's lips on hers, still too shocked to return the kiss while Akira practically devoured her mouth.
Miko then broke away. "Akira, what are you-" she was interrupted as Akira kissed her again, silencing anything she wanted to say. Miko had half a mind to push him away because of the sudden act, but she couldn't. This feeling of affection, this boldness... she couldn't help but feel weak in the knees. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back.
She couldn't believe this was actually happening. She thought Akira only had eyes for Miki, but what he was doing right now; she wouldn't lie and say that she didn't want this type of attention from him. This better not be a dream.
As they continued to kiss in the open, Miko could feel Akira try to use his tongue to enter her mouth, which snapped her out of the bliss she was feeling. She pulled back from the kiss again.
"Akira, I'm… I'm sorry, but I have to go," she excused herself as she found it hard to look Akira in the eye. "I have to be home otherwise my mom might get worried. I hope you understand."
Amon let out a disappointed breath. "Yeah, I get it. Go back to the old she-bat."
Miko couldn't help but chuckle at the nickname. "So, um… Will we… see each other around more often?"
Amon then made another bold move and gave her ass a grope which made her yelp again and her face light up like a lamp. "Most certainly."
"Oh, that's… that's… great!" she stammered as she slowly moved away from Akira. "Well, see you around!"
"You as well!"
Then the two began walking in opposite directions, with Miko going back to her home while Amon made his way into the city, a huge smile on his face.
Amon felt really good about himself right now. He had that woman right in his grasp. With how long Akira was friends with her, it seemed like a crime not to make her his woman. His moment with Miki may have been interrupted but his actions with Miko made up for it.
Right now, he was walking through the city for any other sign of a demon. He needed answers and he needed them now. He may have killed the first demon before he could find out anything, but he needed something to sate his bloodlust. Demons like that one were easily replaceable, anyway.
It was getting late, making it ideal for demons to attack some innocent soul. Amon traversed through the more isolated parts of the city, knowing that there is more likely for demons to attack.
As the sun almost set down, his demonic ears picked up something. He heard a sound of brief screaming before a sound of flesh and bone being pierced came after.
Knowing he found his target, Amon hurried towards the source of all those sounds. He found himself at the docks where an abandoned warehouse was located. Going through its wooden doors, he saw what the commotion was about.
A giant demon stood there, shaped like an elephant but with larger tusks, sharp teeth, red eyes, and silver fur patches over its body. The demon stood in front of a corpse whose guts were out as it lay dead with a scared expression on its face.
The demon then turned around to see Amon and smirked. "Ooh, another snack I see. I must be very fortunate."
"Oh, trust me," Amon began. "I'm more than you can handle."
Amon then began transforming, the small and lanky form of Akira being replaced by a large and bulky demon.
"Now, I believe you have some answers to my questions."
The demon stared at Amon for several moments before speaking. "Oh, I recognize you. You are the famous demon, Amon. A legend among all demonkind."
"Heh, yes, I've been known as something like that."
"Well, that means only one thing," the demon said as he began crouching for a charging position. "If I, the mighty Galgas kill you, then I will become the legend in the demon world!"
Amon honestly wanted to laugh. Just who did this demon think he was? This Galgas was obviously one of the younger demons seeking to prove their power. He had seen those before, hell, he was even challenged by some.
They were usually way over their heads, and their ambition far outweighed their power. And Amon could use a little exercise.
Amon crossed his arms. "Oh, please. Like you could do anything to me. But if you have a death wish, then go ahead. I'll just seek answers from another, possibly smarter demon."
Galgas growled. "Prepare to die!" he exclaimed before charging at Amon, who just stood there with his arms crossed.
The elephant demon then got closer and swung his head, trying to swipe Amon with his tusks. Amon then went to grab the tusk, however, the moment he did, he was suddenly swept off his feet after being struck in the side by the sides of the tusk and sent flying through one of the wooden pillars supporting this warehouse as well as landing into some old boxes.
Amon got up with a groan, completely shocked by what happened. That attack… it actually HURT. And it shouldn't have hurt!
Galgas was then upon him again, but Amon caught his tusks in his arms. His feet dug into the ground as he struggled to keep Galgas at bay. Galgas then swung his head back, with Amon being swung with it before crashing into the floor and destroying a row of tiles.
When he was about to get up, Galgas was once again upon him and swung his trunk at Amon, landing a successful hit that sent Amon flying into the wall with a loud crash.
Amon groaned as he spat out blood. What the fuck was going on?! This low-class demon shouldn't be giving him so much trouble. He should have already won this fight! Why was this happening?
Galgas laughed at the sight. "I told you not to underestimate me, Amon! Now every demon will know the name Galgas, the Great Killer of the Demon Hero Amon!"
With that exclamation, Galgas once again charged at Amon, this time ready to finish the job.
Amon glared at the charging demon. No, he wouldn't be killed by some nobody! Amon brought both of his arms to his sides, and a great surge of energy began coursing through him, his every cell feeling like it was brimming with power.
As Galgas got close, Amon extended his arms, and a beam of bright purple light fired from the palms of his hands right at Galgas who was caught off guard by the attack but couldn't respond in time as the light enveloped him before completely erasing him from existence.
Amon began panting as he stopped firing the beam, with no trace of Galgas anywhere. He saw that his attack has also demolished the wall behind Galgas and he immediately went outside.
What hell was happening? How could have such a weak demon force him to use his Devil Beam? Galgas may have had considerable power when it came to other demons but next to Amon he should have been nothing.
Amon then heard several voices coming from just around the corner, with several lights coming from there as well. He was almost out of energy and would revert back to his human form which meant he would be able to escape.
Spreading his wings he flew up just as the group of people arrived at where he was and flew away as far as his wings could carry him before he transformed back into Akira Fudo.
Amon began thinking about what happened and after a few moments, he thought he found a solution. It was probably because of the unorthodox possession he performed. Since he possessed a dead mortal's body instead of a proper living one, it most likely had a side effect of sealing off a huge portion of his power.
The demon hero cursed under his breath. That wasn't good. He couldn't show himself in front of other demons in such a weakened state. Too many of them would take the opportunity to kill him just for the glory it would bring them.
He needed to get stronger, and he needed to get it fast. Only when his power was truly back did he have a chance of returning back to the demon world. And he had a good idea of how to do it.
AN: And that's it or now, my dear readers. Looks like Amon into some complications in this chapter. His adventures here definitely aren't going to be a cakewalk. I hope you understand why I made that decision.
I implore you to check out my stories. Trust me, they are worth it. And leave a comment, they are great motivators.
See you next time!
