6 years, that's how long Lilly managed her lung cancer. Though it was good news that she survived for more than 5 years, deep down she knows cancer has won.
A few weeks before Cole's birthday, Lou suggested Cole plan his birthday when in reality, it was just a possible last talk to her.
Lilly told Lou, that cancer has won, he didn't want to believe it at first, but he believed it in the end.
"Hi mom," Cole greeted with a smile
"Hey there, Cole," Lilly greeted back. "Lou, could you leave us for a sec?"
"Sure thing," Lou retorted as he left the room.
There was silence until Lilly decided to break it.
"Cole, I need to tell you something," Lilly sighed.
"W-what is it, Mom?" Cole replied, having a feeling on what is it.
"I want you to know that I love you, so much" Lilly started. "Even if I'm gone, I'll always be with you, every step of the way"
"M-mom," Cole said tearing up.
"Remember, a piece of me will always be with you, understand?"
"W-why are y-you saying this?" Cole sniffled.
"Awww, don't cry for me, my li'l beetle, you know how much I love your smile," Lilly smiled. "Smile for me, please"
Cole did what she said, even with the tears and sadness.
"I love you, Cole…" Lilly smiled once again for the last time before closing her eyes for eternal sleep.
Cole shake her to wake up, but nothing happened. "M-mom?"
Just after that Cole heard a long and loud beep. He looked at its source…
It was the cardiac monitor.
After that, everything's a blur, Lou pulled him out of the room, lots of doctors and nurses heading inside, loud sounds, and more. A doctor went out of her room and shook his head. Cole knew what that meant.
She's gone…
