Chapter 11

Logan and Carlos hadn't stayed very long after their argument with James. A nurse came in and escorted them out, claiming they were "upsetting the patient," and told them to come back later. Kendall was left alone in his room until he demanded to see his mother once he was calmed down. Once Logan and Carlos passed Mama Knight and Katie, the two stayed in the waiting room. Carlos and Logan tried to call James but were sent straight to voicemail each time, they figured he wouldn't answer, but it was worth a shot. The two sat in silence, and worry showed in both of them. This whole situation was going wrong, fast, and neither knew what to do to help. Both worried for their friends.

"He has a right to be mad, and I'm such an idiot," Logan states as he frowns, trying not to cry; this causes Carlos to look up at him. "He has a point, and I should've told Mama Knight once I knew, and now Kendall is in the hospital thanks to me…." Logan finishes as he puts his face in his hands, the guilt of the situation was starting to eat him alive, and he knew it was.

Carlos places an arm around his friend's shoulder, and side hugs him. "No, it's not your fault. You did what you thought was right in the current situation; you thought Kendall would be strong enough to stop on his own. You gave him a chance to fix things, and I would've done the same thing. You didn't tell because Kendall asked you not to, and you didn't want to break his trust and ruin your friendship. I understand where you stood Logie, James is just a giant asshole." Carlos explains as he sighs and rubs gentle circles on Logan's shoulder.

Logan gives a small scoff laugh at Carlos ideal name for James. Then, there was silence between the two until Logan looked up from his hands and Carlos. "Thanks, it makes me feel better to think someone believes me and my reasonings for what I chose to do. Either way, we need to find James and try to settle things. I don't want this to ruin our friendship with either him or Kendall."

"It hasn't ruined anything with Kendall; we didn't leave as James did. But we do need to talk things outright, I think we should stay here for tonight in case Kendall needs us, and tomorrow we will go looking for James, we can start there."

"Okay, but what do we do when we find him? What if he doesn't; us to talk to us? What do we even say not to tick him off?"

"You need to relax, Logie," Carlos states as he gently/playfully nudges the boy with his arm. "You gotta stop looking at the worst-case scenario; it'll just drive you crazy." Carlos finishes as he smiles at his friend with a goofy grin; he sees his smile makes Logan smile weakly.

"Thanks, Carlos; when did you become so wise?" Logan questions with raised eyebrows as he looks at the boy before him with wonderment.

Carlos grins, "I've always been wise, my dear grasshopper; you're just now noticing?" Carlos questions with a laugh.

Logan laughed a little, and things weren't tense anymore. The two continued to sit in the waiting room and noticed the sky change from afternoon to evening. It was getting dark, and the longer the two sat there, the more the two started to feel sleepy, and eventually, they fell asleep in their chairs. Both of them no longer had tomorrow's situation on their minds as they slept…

Mama Knight knew something was wrong the moment a mad James came storming out past them. It wasn't often the boy was furious, and it wasn't often the boys fought. The four were like adopted brothers, and Mama Knight loved each of them. But her son right now was the main priority at the moment. After learning of him being on drugs, Mama Knight made a promise to herself to pay more attention to things the boys did and to be more of the adult she needed to be. She was sure she had always trusted the boys, so she started to slack off on being on their cases and let them do what they wanted, with a few occasional rules. But Mama Knight did this because she knew the boys were brilliant, and they could tell what was wrong from right. At least, until they started being Big Time Rush, things were different now. L.A was a crazy town, it was a shark tank, and the pressure to be a young star was a lot.

At least, that was what Mama Knight started assuming was going on with Kendall (her baby boy) when she found out he had been using drugs. This was one of her fears and significant concerns when Kendall was first offered to come to L.A with major producer and star maker Gustavo Roque. She knew of the horror stories of kids being taken advantage of and kids being put under too much pressure and stress to where they turn to drugs and alcohol to find themselves. She just thought her boys were smart enough to know, intelligent enough to understand that drugs were a huge no, no under her roof. Maybe she hadn't been clear? Perhaps she should've sat down more and talked to them about it? It was hard to know where she went wrong with Kendall. Why didn't he come to speak to her? She's always made it clear that Katie, Kendall, Logan, James, and Carlos could always go and talk to her about anything! So why didn't he? These were the things she thought about, the stories she thought about as she sat in a chair looking at her sleeping son attached to many machines and wires in a hospital bed.

It hurt her to know her son was hurting, and he didn't feel comfortable enough to come to talk to her. It also made her sad that Logan didn't tell her when he first found out about Kendall using pills. Mama Knight whipped tears away from her cheeks as her son's soft snoring pulled her out of her thoughts. He had been here for a while now; the doctor was going to do one last blood test tonight and check his vitals. They wanted to make sure all the drugs were out of his blood system and that his vitals were okay before they were released. After sharing this information with her, they also recommended getting Kendall a therapist and possibly enrolling him in rehab when he was released. Mama Knight felt terrible for her son; she could see the headlines now; what did this situation mean for the future of Big Time Rush? For her kids and the other three? Certainties were unknown, and it scared her.

Mama Knight sighs and stretches, the hospital chairs were not the comfiest, but the hospital was making sure her son was all right, and so she dealt with it. She decided; once Kendall was out of the hospital, he would be grounded for a month. He would have to be under supervision all the time if he went somewhere for a while, at least whether it was her, Katie, or one of the guys always with him. She didn't care if he protested, she was worried, and she was sure any mother with a right mind would enforce this as well.

"M-Mom?"

Kendall's awaking voice snapped her out of thought, and she was constantly scooting her chair closer to him. Grabbing his hands and holding them, Kendall started crying once more after he was more awake and started soothing him. She hated seeing her son cry, no mom wanted their babies to be upset, and right now, it seemed like all of hers was. Between Kendall feeling guilty for the whole thing, James being mad at Logan, Logan losing a mental battle with himself over the guilt of not telling an adult, and Carlos being lost on what to do, while Katie was confused and unsure of how to help, everything was falling apart. But Mama Knight let her boy cry, and she didn't bring up the talk of drugs at all, knowing it would upset him more, at least she would have that talk with him later when he wasn't so vulnerable and fragile of the situation. She rubbed circles on her son's hand and continued to soothe him until he calmed down.

"I'm s-sorry, mommy, I'm sorry." Kendall apologized for the millionth time that week, and he only called her "mommy" when he felt guilty and knew he did something wrong and knew he was in trouble. But Mama Knight didn't tell him not to call her that; she let him. Right now was not a place to criticize him or call him out on things; right now was a place to comfort and be there for him. "Mommy, I messed up, I messed up, it's all my fault, all my fault."

Her heart pulls when Kendall chokes back tears; the situation with his friends from earlier was getting to him, and she couldn't blame him. When they were home, Mama Knight would make the boys work everything out if they hadn't already. She sighs as Kendall lays his head back down and cries to himself; she leans over and places a kiss on his forehead.

"It's okay, baby, and things will work out, I promise."

"How can you know, mom?"

"I'm a mother, and I know these things."

"You didn't see James, and he was furious. I don't think I ever remember seeing him that mad before. Logan pushed James, but James called Logan stupid and blamed him and me for everything. It's falling apart, mommy, all because of me.."

"James is going through emotions, baby, and it's no one's fault. When we get home tomorrow after they release you, we will get the boys and talk everything out; it'll be okay, I promise. I love you, Kendall."

"Okay, thanks, mom, and I love you too."

After that, they sit in silence until Kendall falls asleep, still tired. She didn't blame her son for sleeping, his body was healing, and the medicine the doctor was giving him to help everything made him sleepy. Once Kendall is back to sleep, Mama Knight buries her head into her hands once more and lets herself cry. After she is done, she wipes her tears and stays with Kendall that night so he isn't alone…

...

The hospital waiting for chairs wasn't that comfy to sleep in, so Logan and Carlos didn't sleep well that night. The two were up before sunrise, and both went to get some coffee to help wake them up and waited for more. Finally, after some time, Mama Knight came out to update them that the doctor came in that morning and was releasing Kendall around this afternoon. She gave the boys permission to go back to the Palmwood's and get some rest and freshen up before then while keeping her informed on where they are if they go anywhere.

So together, Logan and Carlos left the hospital and made it back to the Palmwood's. That morning, a few residents were in the lobby when they entered, and they only knew this because as soon as they entered, everyone was looking at them with pity and sorrow. It was no doubt that Kendall's story was leaked out by now, and people knew. Still, Carlos and Logan made their way up to their apartment without stopping and chatting with anyone, and they weren't in the mood. Once they were inside, they didn't find James anywhere as the boys had hoped, but the boys found Katie sitting with Camille and Jo; the two were watching Katie for them while they and Mama Knight were gone.

"Where's James?" Carlos questioned the moment the two came in. "Have either of you seen him?" Carlos wonders with a raised eyebrow, causing the three girls to look at them.

"Well, hello to you too," Jo states with full sassiness as she rolls her eyes. After getting a look from Logan and Carlos, she sighs and says. "He was here a while ago, packed some things, then left. Camille, Katie and I tried to stop him but he wouldn't listen to us. He wouldn't even look at us. I don't think I've ever seen James that mad…." Jo explains.

The two boys frowned. "So he just packed and left? Did he say where he was going?" Logan wondered as he started to feel worse about everything.

Jo shook her head, "No, as I said, he wouldn't look at us. He also wouldn't speak to us." Jo stated as she frowned, "But, how's Kendall been since I saw him three days ago?" Of course, she would want to know; Kendall was her boyfriend, after all.

"I see, thanks," Carlos states as he sighs. "Kendall's doing okay, and he's getting released this afternoon."

That information seemed to brighten all three girls up, which the guys couldn't blame them. However, the tension grew; Camille stood and came over to Logan, sensing something was wrong with him. She could see it in his eyes; after dating Logan on and off for a while, Camille has learned how to read that boy like a book. She comes up and says," That's not the whole concern, though, is it. It's about James; something happened between you four, didn't it? Besides the entire Kendall thing…

Sighing, Logan frowns once more, and she figures it out. So, Logan and Carlos told Jo, Camille, and Katie about their argument with James in the hospital. It helped answer some of the girls' questions, but it still upset the boys because James packed up and left? Where he went too, they didn't know. Now they had to find him, and things were more complicated than they needed to be. Now more than ever, Kendall needed all of them, but it was hard if one of their friends was gone. They needed to fix things, but with this known information, the boys were afraid that their friendship was really in trouble…
