Chapter 8

Jinjing ran to the stairs, she hid behind the column, and saw Shifu and Tai Lung, facing each other in the Hall of Warriors.

"I rotted in jail for 20 years because of your weakness!" Tai Lung said in rage.

"Obeying your master is not weakness!" Shifu snapped.

"You knew I was the Dragon Warrior! You always knew. But when Oogway said otherwise, what did you do? What did you do? NOTHING!"

"You were not meant to be the Dragon Warrior! That was not my fault!"

"NOT YOUR FAULT?! WHO FILLED MY HEAD WITH DREAMS?! WHO DROVE ME TO TRAIN ME UNTIL MY BONES CRACKED?! WHO DENIED ME MY DESTINY?!" Tai Lung said throwing Kung Fu artifacts at Shifu, who dodged every attack. Tai Lung kicks a sword at him. Shifu counters it and redirects it into the floor.

"It was never my decision to make!" Shifu said. Tai Lung growled and leaps for the next artifact. He pauses as he recognizes Oogway's staff.

"It is now," Tai Lung said picking up the staff and faces Shifu. Angered, Jinjing ran to Tai Lung and fought him.

"YOU MONSTER!" She shouted as she's fighting him. Then, he pins her down with the staff by the throat. Shifu stepped up a little.

"Give me... the scroll or I'll kill her!" Tai Lung said.

"Let her go (A/N)! She has nothing to do with this! She's innocent!" Shifu said.

"Then give me the scroll!"

"I would rather die!"

Jinjing and Tai Lung struggle for a beat until the staff snaps in half. Shifu and Jinjing look back at the pieces and a flutter of peach petals fly by. Shifu runs to aid his niece.

"Jinjing! Are you alright?" Shifu said.

"I'm fine," Jinjing said.

"What are you doing here?"

"I want to help. I'm sorry, Uncle Shifu. Are you mad at me? If you're mad, I understand,"

"I'm not mad at you. You really are stubborn like your mother,"

Jinjing smiles and then looks at Tai Lung, ready to attack.

"Uncle Shifu, watch out!" Shifu gets kicked by Tai Lung into the wall. The red pandas leap from column to column, perused by Tai Lung. Shifu and Jinjing eventually jump to the rafters and Tai Lung follows and sends the three of them crashing to the roof. Lightning flashes. Attacking in mid-air, Shifu briefly gets the upper hand with Jinjing's help, before Tai Lung gets his paws on the red pandas as they crash to the roof. They kick apart. Shifu and Jinjing crash into a column, falls to the floor and lands hard.

Jinjing gets up and sees Tai Lung with blue flames on his arms, charges at them with a roar.

"Uncle, get up! He's coming!" Jinjing said helping her uncle getting up from the floor.

"Jinjing! Get out of the way!" Shifu shouted pushing her to the reflecting pool.

"All I ever did, I did to make you proud! Tell me how proud you are, Shifu! Tell me! TELL ME!" Tai Lung said. THOOM! A fiery punch sends Shifu across the floor and crash to the reflecting pool. The flames extinguished and Tai Lung steps forward. Jinjing gets up in Kung Fu position while Shifu weakly lifts himself up slightly.

"I... have always been proud of you. From the first moment, I've been... proud of you," Shifu said. Tai Lung stops in his tracks.

"And it was my pride... that blinded me. I loved you too much to see what you were becoming. What I... was turning you into... I'm... I'm sorry,"

"Please, Tai Lung. I know that your hurt but my uncle really is sorry," Jinjing said.

Tai Lung hesitates. Shifu and Jinjing wait. After a long moment... Tai Lung's expression goes cold. He grabs Shifu by the throat.

"NO!" Jinjing shouted as she charges at Tai Lung. Then, he uses his other arm to push her to the column.

"I don't want your apology... I want my scroll!" Tai Lung said lifting Shifu up to the ceiling. Tai Lung looks up and sees the scroll is missing.

"What? WHERE IS IT?!" Tai Lung said slamming Shifu to the floor with force to the crack stone.

"The Dragon Warrior has taken the scroll halfway across China by... now. You'll never see that scroll, Tai Lung. Never! N-ever..." Shifu said as Tai Lung unsheathes his claws. Shifu begins to pass out. Tai Lung snarls, getting ready to strike Shifu. Suddenly...

"Hey!"

Tai Lung and Jinjing turn to see Po standing in the doorway. Jinjing gasps happily.

Author's Note: This line reminds me of King Triton from Disney's The Little Mermaid (1989), which is available to watch on Disney Plus. I also just love how Shifu cares for his niece. It's so sweet!
