Prompt from Book girl fan: What was the Watsons' honeymoon like?
AN: M = Mary Watson. J = John Watson
M - "Oh Mrs. Hudson, you should have been there!"
J - "Holmes, be glad you were not there."
M - "It was beautiful! And so exciting!"
J - "It was utterly dreadful and quite disturbing."
M - "I really must write to Mina Murray and thank her for arranging things. Though, I understand she is Mina Harker now. Married somewhere in Eastern Europe, I think."
J - "I am tempted to write to Murray and ask him if his cousin is sane. Man saved my life but that girl… I suppose it was not her fault."
M - "It was in Essex. A wonderfully rustic old ruin called Carfax Abbey. I was surprised more people were not visiting."
J - "We should have gone to Sussex as you suggested, Holmes. This place was nothing but a decrepit wreck of a ruin. Place called Carfax Abbey. Should have been called Drafty Pile of Rocks. No surprise there are not more tourists."
M - "We arrived just after sunset. The moon was rising. I've never seen a more peaceful home. So romantic!"
J - "Got there right after dark. Moon was casting shadows everywhere. Never seen a more foreboding edifice. Unsettling, I tell you. Unsettling."
M - "The master of the house answered the door himself. He was ever so handsome. Very tall and slim. Pale though. I think that might have been from his Romanian heritage. I'm not sure."
J - "No servants. The master of the house answered the door himself. Tall fellow. Pale as a corpse. Looked like a stiff breeze would knock him over. And those eyes of his! Ghastly!"
M - "I think John might have been slightly jealous. He kept inserting himself between me and the count. Really, I didn't mind. I thought it was sweet."
J - "I didn't like the man. Kept staring at Mary. Man claimed he was a count. I don't know what the nobility is like in Romania but if he's an example, they can keep them."
M - "I would have stayed a month, but with John needing to establish his practice, we only had two days. Still, it was quite romantic, and I hope to convince John to return on our anniversary."
J - "Before arriving, I had thought to extend our stay to a week. Glad I said nothing about it to Mary. The most unnerving two days of my life. Never want to see the place again!"
