Chapter 4: Early

Nessie's POV

Pain woke me up in the middle of the night. Or at least I assumed it was the middle of the night. It was still very dark outside.

I had to bite my tongue to avoid screaming when another wave of pain hit my body. Beneath the pain I was also aware of an unusual wetness in my underwear. Like I had just wet myself.

Then it all clicked at once. I hadn't wet myself. My water had broken. The pain was labor pain. I was about to have my baby three weeks early. I was beginning to panic when my father suddenly burst through the door. He lifted me up without saying a word.

It was times like these that made me very thankful for his ability to read minds. His lips twitched into a smile. "I guess you're not thankful for that all the time,"

"Yeah because having a father that can invade your privacy at any moment twenty four hours a day is every daughter's dream," through the pain somehow I still managed to sound sarcastic.

I was rushed up to my grandfather's office where he was already waiting for me. "It's too soon," internally I was beginning to panic. My baby wasn't due for another three weeks!

"The stress of everything that has happened to you must have triggered an early labor," Carlisle said.

Oh God. Oh God! Oh-I screamed as another contraction hit me.

"Nessie listen to me. I'm going to help you deliver this baby safely. Everything is going to be okay,"

My grandfather's words had a soothing effect on me. He didn't have any pain killers much to my horror. But the baby was coming fast according to my grandfather. Two hours after the contractions started he instructed me to start pushing.

I swear to God if I ever see Jacob again I was going to kill him! I was going to murder him on the spot! I was going to rip him apart piece by piece! He was going to suffer for doing this to me!"

"We're almost there Nessie. One more push should do it," my grandfather said in an encouraging tone.

One more push. I gave it all I got. I could feel something coming out of my body. Then I heard a baby crying. My baby.

"It's over Nessie," my dad said. "Carlisle is just getting him cleaned up and removing the umbilical cord,"

I could hear him but I couldn't see him. Then my grandfather turned around and I saw my son for the first time. I was in awe of him. My son. My baby. I had a baby. I was a mom.

"He's perfectly healthy. He weights nine pounds and two ounces. Are you sure he came early because that's big for a full term baby," he asked as he handed me my son.

"Definitely early. My due date was December 24th. It was December 4th when I left," I was in my awe of my baby. Heavy or not he was perfect in my eyes.

I held my boy tight to my chest. I kissed his beautiful little face. I'd never felt so happy before. I was holding my son in my arms for the first time. Tears of happiness fell from my eyes.

"So what are you going to name him?" my father asked.

"His name is going to be Seth," Jacob and I had decided on that name as soon as we knew we were having a boy. Our best friend Seth Clearwater had been tragically killed by a coven of vampires that had ambushed and attacked him, his wife, and their three month old baby girl two years ago. Seth had fought to the death so his wife and daughter could escape. By the time the rest of the wolves had got there it was too late.

Poor Seth. It had crushed Jacob to lose a member of his pack. It had destroyed Leah to lose her brother.

"Seth. That's an interesting name," my grandfather said.

"It's the name of a very close friend of mine," I explained.

"We'll let you rest now," my grandfather said. He and my father walked out together.

My baby squirmed in a little bit in my arms. Looking at my son it was hard to believe that he had come early. Maybe he just took after his father in terms of growth. My beautiful little Seth.

What a strange twenty four hours this has been. First I get attacked, then I travel back in time, and then I give birth to my son. Strange did not even begin to cover it.

He started crying again. Then I figured he must be hungry. I felt an odd fullness sensation in my breasts. It seemed like my body knew my baby was hungry but it was probably just a coincidence. I helped my son latch on and right away he started sucking.

I wished that Jacob was here to be with us. He was so excited about becoming a father. He'd been waiting for this day with breathless excitement. Now that day was here and he was not.

I was stuck in the past. Seth looked so happy and peaceful as he ate. Well one things for sure. He was probably the only baby in existence that could say he was born before his grandparents had even met. He'll never let me forget it once I tell him the story.

Someone knocked on the door followed by a "Can I come in?"

"Sure,"

It was my father. He closed the door behind him. "I just came to see how you two were doing,"

"We're doing fine. Honestly my mom had it much worse when she gave birth to me,"

"She did?" my dad asked.

"Oh definitely. A human giving birth to a baby that is half vampire is very dangerous. The human mother always dies in the process. Although my mom was saved at the very last second. In comparison to that I'd say that I've had it pretty easy,"

"Tell me," he growled.

"Tell you what?" I asked, confused.

"Everything. I want to know the whole story about your mother and I,"

"Sure. Okay. I've only heard it about a million times so I know it by heart. I'll start from the very beginning;"
