Chapter 6: Trouble
Nessie's POV
Carlisle was waiting for me as soon as I got home. He didn't look happy at all. "Renesmee we told you not to go onto the Quileute reservation. Why didn't you listen?" he asked me calmly.
Uh oh. This was something I had never had to worry about before. The treaty had been a moot point for me my entire life. Due to being Jacob's imprint I was not bound in any way by the treaty. So it was never something I'd given much thought to.
"Renesmee when I ask you a question I expect an answer," he had his arms folded across his chest like a disapproving father.
"I've always been allowed onto the reservation. So I didn't even really think about it if I'm being honest,"
This seemed to surprise my grandfather. "Are you saying that the treaty rules don't apply anymore in the future?"
"No," I shook my head. "They don't apply to me. They're still very much in effect for the rest of the family. I'm surprised Edward hasn't told you. I'm married to one of the wolves,"
"and Seth?" he looked at my baby who was sleeping soundly in my arms.
I nodded. "His father is a wolf,"
Carlisle shook his head in disbelief. "Regardless even if you are allowed there in the future you can't go there right now. As far as people are concerned you are just another Cullen which means the rules now apply to you. If the elders found out about this they will think we violated the treaty. That is extremely dangerous and I will not allow you to put yourself in harms way like that,"
I smiled. Less than two days after meeting me and he was already acting like the loving grandfather I'd known all of my life.
I went upstairs to my room. I stood there in shock when I opened the door and saw that there was now a crib next to my bed. That wasn't the only change either. There was an assortment of other baby stuff as well. Blue blankets, baby toys, a changing station, diapers, wipes. It was beautiful.
Cold hands grabbed my shoulders. "Do you like it?" I should've known my grandma Esme was behind this.
"Like it? No," I shook my head. "I love it! Thanks grandma,"
She hugged me. "I love hearing you say that,"
"How did you do all of this?"
"Oh I can't take all of the credit. Alice helped,"
"Of course," I couldn't stop smiling.
"I'll let you get some rest now. If you need anything let me know. I'll be making dinner for you which should be ready in about an hour,"
"Thanks grandma,"
I placed Seth into the crib as gently as I could. I kissed his cheek. My baby didn't even stir. I went to the bathroom and took off my clothes to take a quick shower. When I emerged from the bathroom ten minutes later Seth was still sound asleep in the crib.
I pulled my iPad out of my bag and began watching a movie I had downloaded on it the 2019 version of The Lion King.
I spent the next few days inside of the house while everyone else either went to school or work. As much as I wanted to go and see Jacob again I knew that was a bad idea. Aunt Alice had berated me once again when she found out what I'd done. She went on and on about the butterfly effect and how small actions can cause big changes. I didn't really believe that small changes in history could have huge changes on future events that were set to happen anyway but oh well. Also I had promised Carlisle that I wouldn't break the rules again.
But I was perfectly happy to stay home and bond with my son. I wasn't completely alone either. Esme was always there.
On Friday I was starting to feel the effects of cabin fever setting in. So I thought I'd head into town to the local Starbucks shop for some latte and a pastry.
"Where are you going?" Esme asked me suspiciously as I was heading out the door.
"I need a little fresh air. I'm just going for coffee that's all,"
"Do you want me to drive you?" she offered.
"I'd rather walk but thanks for offering,"
"Just be careful out there she hugged and kissed me before opening the door for me,"
"I will," I smiled.
There wasn't a few people already in line when I got there. When I got to the front of the line I ordered a pumpkin spice latte and a blueberry muffin.
As soon as I sat down at a table Seth started crying. By now I'd already learned the differences in his cries and what they meant. He was hungry. Thankfully I'd remembered to bring the nursing cover along.
Several people gave me disgusted looks despite the fact that I was completely covered up. It was making me extremely uncomfortable.
"What you're doing is absolutely disgusting," one man said to me a few minutes later.
"Excuse me?"
"You should be ashamed of yourself," he sneered.
"For what? Feeding my baby?"
He was about to say something else when someone else interrupt "Why don't you just leave her alone?"
I got a good look at the woman who'd spoken and I felt as if all of the blood had suddenly drained from my body..
"Stay out of this lady. This is none of your business,"
"and as far as I'm concerned the way she chooses to feed her baby is none of your business either. So leave her alone or else,"
"Or else what?"
"Or else I will call my father and tell him you're harassing someone for no reason. He's the chief of police,"
The man left without saying a word. "I'm so sorry about that. Is it okay if I sit here with you?"
I couldn't speak so I just nodded. She sat down and started drinking her coffee.
"Are you okay?" she asked sounding concerned.
"You're Isabella Swan," I choked out.
"How did you know my name?"
"I've heard it before,"
She rolled her eyes. "Charlie must be talking about me. Just call me Bella," she said.
"I'm Renesmee Cullen and this is my son Seth. What are you doing here. I thought you weren't moving here until next month," I gasped. I could not stop staring at my very human mother.
"That was my original plan but I don't know. For the past few days I've had this very strange feeling that I needed to be here in Forks. So I called Charlie and asked if I could move earlier. He was very happy about that even if he couldn't quite understand why. I don't even understand why but I just feel like I have to be here right now,"
All I could think was what the actual fuck is happening right now?! over and over.
