Second Chances for Nathan Chapter 12, Part 10, Page 80
After the phone call, little did Emily know that during her dream, Dee and Nathan were singing to eachother while dancing to "Let me call you sweetheart". They were still relishing in their newly declared love. As they talked about the days when they were just children, they discovered that there was an interest in each other all along. The attraction began when they were young friends, but just needed a little prompting and it grew. It was like a tight rose bud, that was bursting to bloom.
Nathan wanted Dee to stay, but she had to go home to get prepared for her first day as music teacher starting tomorrow. Nathan and Dee walked arm in arm to Faith's house.
"It was such a wonderful day today Nathan! I'm so very happy right now. I feel like I'm in seventh heaven." Dee gushed.
"I know the feeling Dee. I am so grateful that you are here with me," and with that he tenderly cupped her face in his strong hands and softly kissed her. It was an enchanting moment.
Dee hesitantly broke away from his embrace. "I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yes, I will check with you when I go to pick up Allie after school. You will be fantastic, I just know it! Good night, sweetheart!" Nathan grinned as he walked away.
Inside Dee was still aglow when she saw Faith sitting in the living room wiping her face of the tears she was shedding. "Oh no, Faith, did you say goodbye tonight to Carson?"
"Yes, Dee I am so upset. Carson and I knew it was going to be tough when he first left, but it's almost unbearable to know I won't see him again until maybe Christmas or ever" Faith cried.
"Faith, this is temporary. He'll be back as soon as he can. You know that." Dee tried to reassure her.
"That's it, I don't know. His studies in surgery have been very hard on him and he has to focus so he learns to do surgery well. He's been indicating that he might not come back home for Christmas. In fact, he doesn't know when he will be back." Faith continued to cry.
"Faith, your name means everything. You have to live up to your name, and have faith that whatever happens it's meant to be. Just pray and let go, if you can."
"I have faith, I do, but does Carson?" she shook her head. "He seemed to be happy to go back. I'm not sure what to think."
"What did he do when he said goodbye to you?" Dee inquired.
"That he would miss me and he'd call every Sunday if he wasn't on duty." Faith replied.
"Well then, just keep in touch and just keep busy." Dee suggested.
"I'm so glad you're staying here to keep me company Dee." Faith said as she gave her new friend a hug.
After awhile Nathan got Allie to settle down and get to bed. While they were talking Allie gave her dad a big hug and told him that she was thrilled that he and Dee were courting. She elaborated on all that Dee and Oma did with her cooking, singing, laughing, and just enjoying each other's company. Allie was going to enjoy sweet dreams!
Nathan left to do final rounds and when he rode with Newton out in the country he told his horse just how lucky of a man he was. He was thinking about what just happened in the last few weeks. How Karen and her family moved to Hope Valley, and most importantly he now had an amazing woman by his side. He put Newton back in the stable and brushed him down. "Thanks buddy for the talk tonight."
When Nathan walked home he knew he had finally let go of the hurt that Elizabeth had caused him. He didn't want to go through that pain again and even though he now had a woman back in his life, he didn't think he could ever forget how that felt. Yet, his Ma listened to him tell her his heartache and that was what he needed. So often as a young boy, he felt he had to be the man of the house and it was hard for him to share his feelings or even talk about his disappointment so he would act tough. Now as a man, he knew better. He recognized that a woman can be what he needed, not just wanted. Nathan knew that the love of Dee would exactly fulfill both!
